  1. Barker and Bickford are not on the 40 man roster and I don't see them making the move. The Brewers already have to dump 2 guys to fit Nelson and Suter back on. Wilkerson would be a prime candidate to be dropped, so I don't see him coming up either. Yes, your correct with both not rostered. Bickford I already accounted for, Barker I did not, so no Barker. Who do you think will come off the 40 man roster to accommodate Nelson-Suter-Bickford? Imo only Nelson and Suter would be added to the 40-man and Taylor Williams and Wilkerson would be dropped. I didn't see Bickford making it.

  3. Wasn't he a relief ace after his last outing? Once again, another lesson in not overdoing in game by game or small samples. Just relax sometimes. Nelson has had command problems the entire time he's been in San Antonio, not just one game. In 40.1 IPs he has 24 walks, 3 HBPs and 8 wild pitches.
  4. If he's trending poorly in the next couple years and we have a chance to get rid of that problem with minimal or no incentive added now, why wouldn't we do that before it becomes a problem for us? Exactly. Trending poorly, well past prime, if we pay down 9 mil. It’s worth getting out from under that contract, he’s abysmal offensively, what happens another year older if his defense starts to regress? 15 million a year saved can be used in other area’s. Cain is owed $51M over the next 3 years. No team is going to take on his contract unless the Brewers pay a lot more than $9M. Imo it would take closer to $20M pay down to get rid of his contract. Cain's lack of production this year plus his age are huge negative factors in these times of playing younger talent and paying less.
  5. There would be NO reason to call-up Freitas just to sit the bench. Do you actually believe if the Brewers thought he could help he would still be in the minors? With Grandal catching and Pina doing well as the backup, Freitas would be a 3rd catcher and play very little if at all. The Brewers believe that it's better to leave Freitas in the minors and playing than sitting the bench in the big leagues. IF Grandal or Pina got hurt, of course Freitas or Nottingham would be brought up.
  6. Pretty much agree with your list, except if Moose hurting, Shaw up earlier. And Burnes will be up at some point. I don't see Freitas until AAA season is over. I agree that Shaw may be up soon if Moose is banged up. I don't see why they'd bring up Wilkerson for any reason. I think he's a good candidate to clear off the 40 man roster. Stearns has to bring up Faria to justify the Aguilar trade.
  7. Interesting to lump Grisham into that group. Let's see him perform for more than spot starts over 2 weeks before we do that. He’s a 1st round pick with a superior eye, with a great plate approach that can barrel a baseball. Big discount if we can get him to extend now. No brainer. Before giving Grisham any kind of extension, see if he can hit major lg. pitching. Right now he is overmatched. OBP.295 and a .221 BA... Small sample yes, but he has shown nothing to indicate he will be able to hit in the majors.. He'll get time next year to see if he can hit and IF he proves he can, then offer the extension.
  8. By comparison Rendon is going to get somewhere around $30-32M per yr, 4-5 yr deal. Grandal = $16M Shaw= $4.7M Moustakas = $8+M Total about $29M, less than what it's going to cost for Rendon. With needs at SP & SS, plus the increases for arby players, the money just doesn't add up. Moustakas right now: .263/.334 31HRs 71 RBIs would be just fine at 3B. Imo they re-sign Moose at somewhere around 3 for $33M and spend the money on pitching and SS.
  9. People who actually do this for a living think you're wrong, so I'll go with them. These guys are good at their jobs, but that doesn't mean they're perfect or could truly know the depth of a system. In 2012 the Rangers ranked as Baseball America's 2nd best farm system. Their top 5 prospects were listed as Jurickson Profar, Martín Pérez, Mike Olt, Leonys Martín, and Neil Ramirez. Also in 2012 the Marlins ranked as Baseball America's 28th farm system. Their top 5 prospects were listed as Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna, Jose Fernandez, Matt Dominguez, and JT Realmuto. I went to 3 different sites for 2012 and the LOWEST rating for the Marlins was #13. The highest was #10. I can't believe any credible site had the Marlins the 3rd WORST farm in 2012.
  10. Eduardo Escobar should never, ever see the SS position. Moose would likely be better there defensively at this point. He's played so much SS in his career he can't be that bad. The .150 increase in OPS is probably worth it. Escobar is a -15 career SS and rated a -34 SS this year. He's about as bad as you can get at SS and would kill the D.
  11. Do you really think the Brewers have the money to get Rendon? He'll get $22-25M and a 4-5 year deal easily. I think he's way to expensive for the Crew. Moustakas is a better option at around $11M per for 3 years, and spend the rest they would have spent on Rendon for pitching or a SS. I'm still not sold on Grisham. He hasn't done much in a short span in the big leagues to be overly enthusiastic about him(.228/.303).
  12. Information I’ve seen shows Sano to be an average or even slightly above average third baseman this season. Last three years: Sano at 3B (rtot) -16, -6, -10. A butcher at 3B. Avg. at best at 1B and this year -16. Shaw is by far the superior fielder, but Sano is slightly better OBP and $2M cheaper.
  13. A walk is better than an out, but only as good a single IF nobody is on base. A bunt isn't always a waste. If the bunt moves the runner(s), it's far better than a K or a DP ground ball by a weak hitting pitcher. Other than a K with a WP or PB, a strikeout never advances a runner, never puts pressure on the defense, and never has a positive result. Except for the DP groundball, a strikeout is the absolute worst way to make an out.

  16. I'm not saying Santana is a super overall option, just a better one than Gamel on this particular team. Gamel' bat has not been great, right? Really, Gamel could have been optioned real easily for Grisham, especially if CC would play Hernan in the OF. Gamel is out hitting Grisham and a better OF option. Grisham has to prove he can hit MLB pitching. High ceiling, but he has to prove it.

  19. Let's not anoint Grisham as an automatic starter next year. He has done nothing in the big leagues (.231/.280) to show he will be a big contributor next year. It's certainly possible, but so far he has proven nothing.

  22. Where did you get the stats that Moose was the Brewers' worst hitter w/RISP? Who do you want at 3B that would be better than Moose?
