  1. Other than grooving one to McNeil, liked seeing woody work the corners with his FB. If he can do that with some consistency look out.
  2. Hart needs DFA’d and Jackson added, then brought up, which I think is imminent.
  3. Schoop trade regretful, but not what we gave up as much as just how much Schoop hurt the team with his disinterested attitude and worse than horrible hitting. Lara wasn’t going to be protected anyhow, same with Kodi. Harrison could hit his way to dh i suppose. Plus Gio might have signed elsewhere if not for his experience with our team last year. Early grade on Stearns discernment . B+
  4. Perdomo’s control seems to be coming around, last few outings zero walks. Last year, control improved big time. I think Stearns found a diamond.
  5. Next month or so is going to be fascinating to see what the brewers do with their pitching staff. Do Burnes Nelson Peralta pitch out of the rotation? 6 man? Rotating young guns at some point to manage innings? How long is it going to take to rid the pen of Petricka Wilson Barnes and possibly Albers? With 8 quality options to start, or to be multi-inning pen arms, and possible high leverage pen arm or two down on the farm, the sooner we rid ourselves of petricka Wilson Barnes the better. Imo we’ve seen the worst of Burnes and Woodruff already and if not we have plenty of arms to replace. Who’s to say moving forward that Gio or Chacín can’t pitch multi-inning out of pen? Lots of options!!
  6. I'd argue that David Freitas hangs lower than any of those guys. Jay Jackson for Hart Asap. Need to get this guy pitching for the big club, dominating AAA, yet to give up a run all year. Loads of experience pitching high leverage in Japan, let’s go. Nelson for Petricka Angel Perdomo for David Freitas sometime in the near future. I would argue dominating hitters more than any pitcher we have in our farm system, with command coming around, 97 from the left side, let’s go.
  7. 6 out save in tonight’s game. 2 ip 1 h 1 bb 3 ks It’s still early, but yet to give up a run on the year.
  8. Noah Zavala’s been impressive pitching for carolina: 23 ip 20 h 2.35 era 5 bb 25 ks
  9. I'm not either believe it or not. But I'd much rather have that than to continue to have them trot out a bunch of mediocre 1 inning guys like Petricka Wilson, Albers, Barnes, Williams, etc. What it comes down to is this... Soon enough the Brewers rotation options are going to be Chacin, Davies, Anderson, Gio, Nelson, Guerra, Burnes, Woodruff, and Nelson. Even without getting crazy with tandems or piggybacks, which I still think is a ways off unfortunately, you've got 9 guys for 5 spots. Guerra seems to be thriving in the long pen role. Let's add 3 more like him. I'd rather have all 9 of these guys on the Brewers 12-man staff than have 3 or 4 of them starting games in San Antonio. Especially if it means the aforementioned mediocre short guys are still around. On top of those multi-inning pitchers, you round out the staff with Hader, Claudio, and Jeffress. And then you've got plenty of coverage when your starters don't go 6 or when you purposely want to keep their outing short. As far as who are the "starters" and who goes to the pen, just give me the 5 who have the best history of eating innings effectively thus far. You forgot Peralta. I remember reading that his injury was supposed to be short-term. I don't think anyone would argue that the talent is there to have an above average to great pitching staff. It's a matter of finding the right roles, and helping these talent arms perform to expectations. Tbbc and jmb are both right imo. Barnes-gone Wilson-gone Petricka-gone Albers-gone eventually 9 starters & Claudio & jeffress,Hader,kimbrel/trade acq. = 13 man staff Guerra & 3 multi- inning & Claudio > get outs and destroy timing. Then 3 high leverage arms. Could still rotate Burnes Nelson peralta woody to manage innings and find the best role’s for the rest of THIS year.
  10. 3 years/$45 million guaranteed is NOT $9 million. When you talk contract, you need to represent the full value of the deal, not the first year payout minus backloading. And it doesn't mention anywhere that Kimbrel would take a prorated deal, so that is 100% speculation. Now ... instead of turning this into yet another thread that devolves into arguing about Craig Kimbrel (who I think has no chance of being a Brewer), lets keep this on Smoak. There is a whole thread devoted to Kimbrel that is collecting dust, just like him. I have represented the full value of the deal in numerous posts, the 9 mil you referring to only time I didn’t.
  11. Ok, I’ll try this one more time. It’s been reported Kimbrel’s asking price down to 3 @ 45 Sign him for that. If this year’s budget needs to backload 3 mil of the 15 Then the prorated 15 mil salary is 12 mil for this year. 15 mil - 3(backloaded) -3 (prorated)= 9 mil for this year, 16 for 2020, 17 for 2021. If can’t be backloaded it’s 12 mil for this year 15 for the next 2. If the 15 mil doesn’t fit in next year’s Mark A/ Stearns budget trade him. Personally I’d keep him, with 28 mil off the books in Grandal and moose, plus the 9 mil extra every team in baseball getting with the new Fox deal.
  12. What information do we have that suggests Kimbrel is going to be had for 9-12 million? Or that he'd even be cheaper than Kuechel? That's at best speculation that runs contrary to everything I've heard about the two thus far. I’ve answered that question in thread or multiple threads already.
  13. I just don’t see how you could do this for more than 2 spots in the rotation. You still need 3 of the spots to be guys that can be more traditional and go 5-6 innings more often than not. Outside of September you can’t do this I don’t think. Once a guy goes 2-4 innings he’s down for 2 days at least and you’re talking using more than 1 guy a game doing this and multiple spots in the rotation doing it? I just don’t think it adds up. I love the creativity but again outside of doing it for 1 or 2 spots in the rotation I don’t see it. I just am not a fan of seeing all three young arms back in the pen this year, especially if you're saying sooner rather than later. We're never going to develop these elite pitchers if we don't give them a chance. I see no reason why Corbin Burnes can't be an effective sub 4.00 starting pitcher? Or Woodruff....or even Peralta if he can fine tune his breaking ball and develop that change. He is just 22 years old. Rotation: Chacín Davies pitch every 5 th day 3 of Anderson Nelson Gio Woodruff Burnes Peralta rotate as starters, relievers or AAA. Burnes woodruff Peralta can develope in rotation and have their innings managed. Nelson’s innings can be managed also. Bullpen would have 2-3 of Nelson Anderson Gio Woody Burnes peralta joining Guerra giving the pen 3-4 Quality arms pitching 2-4 innings at a time. Add kimbrel or dominant trade acquisition to this mix with Hader jeffress Claudio > Equal or better than last year’s playoff pen.
  14. Yes definitely. There's no doubt I erred somewhere along the way in the way I stated the message. I have to own that. My words were often misconstrued as well. Even what I just wrote now. They're obviously not going to rid themselves of Jeffress, Albers, Wilson, etc overnight. And they're all 1 inning type guys. But if the Brewers want to avoid the ugly numbers pitchers post the 3rd time through, they're going to have to stack the staff with starter types and deploy them in unique ways. But I've said all along it would take time. I did erroneously predict we'd see more tandem type usage out of the gates this year but now it's starting to look like it will happen sooner rather than later. If any or all of the young 3 guns get shifted to the pen, they'll be able to get really creative. Pen at some point this year: Kimbrel/trade acq. Jeffress Hader Claudio Burnes 2-4 innings Woodruff 2-4 Guerra 2-4 Peralta 2-4 Probably later than sooner, with 6 man rotation, one of Burnes woodruff peralta to pen, or AAA to develope. Other two plus Nelson rotate to pen in the 6 man.( keep innings down ). This is a unique, dominating, lock down bullpen.
  15. Why would we pigeon hole a pitcher like Rasmussen into the role of a reliever right now? You talk about aces, he's actually got the stuff to be an ace. And if they're ramping his pitch count up(I'm pretty encouraged by 50 pitches right now) hesitant the guy who ACTUALLY could be an ace. I think you're being really overly optimistic if you believe we'll have 3 TOR arms in this staff this year. It's been a loooong time since the Brewers have had that. I'm still pretty bullish on Burnes, Peralta was never likely going to be an ace(though I think he's better than he's shown thus far) and Woodruff could be a really solid #3 IMO. Burnes is the guy with the highest ceiling and that's probably not that of an ace. Though I'd be glad to be wrong. Nelson this year, Burnes and woodruff year or two, not sure on peralta. Rasmussen’s had 2 tjs and think they going to keep his pitches at or close to 50 pitches the whole year like they did with Taylor Williams a couple years ago. My knebel comparison was for this year. He’s not young, and will probably be in AA soon, if he’s continues to dominate at AA, why not call him up IF he’s needed.
  16. Those people wouldn't know what the definition of the word "outlier" was then. They may believe it will end up being an outlier, but given that he's played one full season, I don't know how you can argue that season is an "outlier" in his MLB career. Of course, he also put up a pretty solid partial season in 2017. You need more than one point on the graph to create an outlier. At best if you want to use the 133 games he appeared in, many as a pinch hitter, he put up a .837 OPS, a .891 OPS and he's struggled for 21 games this season. Moreover, this isn't fantasy baseball. I've seen where you've wanted both Kimbrel AND Kuchel, you now want to dump the young guy we have for the next 4 years for a vet who had a career year that was basically equal to Aguilar's season last year. I like smoak a lot more than you do, I don’t want to trade Aguilar, I just don’t think they will want thames. They have a big left handed hitting first baseman rowdy tellez, 24 year old prospect they like. Might not want Aguilar, not sure any one would as bad as he looks right now.
  17. Those people wouldn't know what the definition of the word "outlier" was then. Love to have Kuechel, could use a 7 inning pitcher, and battle tested playoff pitcher but at 18-20 mil even prorated 15-17 probably not going to happen. I’d prefer the best relief pitcher in the world. For 9-12 mil probably more affordable than Kuechel.
  18. You're making an enormous assumption that his new reported asking price is going to account for his first year being prorated. There's really no reason to believe that at this point. Nor is there much reason to believe he's going to backload money or that we'll be able to easily trade him in the future when nobody else has signed him and now you're backloading money and saying, "here, take him and give us something for him." If he signs the 3 year it will be prorated for this year according to rosenthal and heyman. So if he won’t backload, fine 12 mil for this year less owed next 2, Easier to trade. Personally, I wouldn’t trade him, I’d want my 9th inning locked down, and use Hader Knebel Jeffress Wahl Rasmussen to shut down the enemy from the 6th inning.
  19. It’s been reported his asking price has dropped to 3 @ 45 Backload 3 mil Prorated 1/6 of 15 = 3 15-6= 9 mil for this year, 16 mil in 2020, 17 mil in 2021. 9 mil for this year. Keep him or trade him this offseason or at next year’s deadline.
  20. Is this meant to be sarcasm or do you genuinely believe he's a future ace? I get the sarcasm part because he's still only in A ball and he's had a lot of arm issues and then you throw in the word "another," when I don't think we've developed an ace since Sheets and I can see it being sarcasm(plus...you don't always have the sunniest disposition on here when it comes to projecting future prospects). On the other hand, there's zero question with the stuff he's showing right now, he could be a future ace. So I'm curious if you were being totally serious. It's a joke that was basically pointing out that Brew crew 92 was saying we had 3 aces in Woodruff, Burnes and Peralta with another on the way in Nelson before the season started. 3 of the 4 will be tor. Nelson was and will be again this year. Woody Burnes might take a year or two, peralta don’t know cause of lack of command. Rasmussen another knebel.
  21. It doesn’t matter what the record is. How can you watch this team and not see how awful they are in all parts of the game right now? That’s why there’s the doom and gloom. Because I watched last year’s team and saw how awful they were in all parts of the game for stretches, and then I saw them become an unstoppable force to close out the season. Too early to start panicking about anything right now, this team is talented and will win a bunch of games. Last year‘s team had a very good bullpen all year that became great in August, this year‘s team has a terrible bullpen. This team has no chance to win anything this year with the bullpen that we have now.
  22. You would ask for Smoak and Kimbrel. Nevermind the asking price. Well do you want to win it or go 50th year without? Some people here act like we’re the Little sisters of the poor. This team isn’t winning the central, And certainly not getting past the dodgers without an ELITE bullpen. And if we can get the best hi leverage arm in the world for $9 million > whatever If we need help with the 8 mil on smoak, give them a better prospect.
  23. For 2-4 mil why not. Maybe this signals a youngin to the pen now, or they could put gio there at some point. Lots of options. Now let’s trade for smoak, Sign kimbrel, and go win this thing.
  24. To date, 13-12 is a good record, even if it has been a struggle. Would I have preferred to see Burnes and Peralta do better? Yes. Do I wish Wahl and Knebel were healthy? Yes. Would it be nice to see Jesus hitting at his 2017 clip at the very least? Yes. Would it be good if Braun and Shaw weren't slumping? Sure. If the Crew survives this part of the schedule and is no more than a game or two back... the division title is ours. Schedule doesn’t get easier til June. Mets Phillies Rockies Nats braves twins cubs just to name a few on the horizon.
  25. I’m much more concerned with the bullpen. We’ve already seen the worst of the starting pitching. Not sure that’s the case with pen. Anderson starting helps the rotation > hurts the bullpen. Davies Chacín ok, woodruff improving, Nelson return imminent. ONE quality high leverage arm < Hader >. Guerra > good Claudio >good Jeffress >good Albers > ? Wilson > bad Barnes > bad Petricka > bad Can’t win with this bullpen. Sorry. CC needs more than 4 pen arms. At some point sooner rather than later stearns going to have to drop a couple from the 40 man to add a couple of worthy down under pen arms. Drop hart & Petricka Add Jackson & perdomo & sanchez
