  1. It seems odd to me that they wouldn't leave him out there for his typical starter's pitch count. He seemed to be pitching just fine. Maybe he threw so many breaking pitches, they protecting his elbow.
  2. Relax, the rotation is going to get better, we have loads of talent, just off to a bad start, it’ll come around. By playoff time it’ll be a strength. Kimbrel would give us another Josh Hader, stats almost identical. Kimbrel’s career #s actually better. So what do you think? Not a difference maker? Really? You don’t think he would improve our pen tremendously?
  3. Burnes done for the night. 54 pitches 30 strikes 3 ip 1 hit 3 bb 3 ks. Assuming threw more off speed, hence the walks.
  4. Looks terrible every at bat, zero power, zero confidence. You can see it in his face, it’s like he’s scared he’s never gonna hit again. Shaw on the other hand looks terrible in his at bats too, but his face shows zero frustration.
  5. I wonder how many starts he does in the minors? My guess it’s not too many.
  6. I feel like Bill Murray on Groundhog Day. I hadn’t seen it mentioned anywhere on this site, and to my knowledge, it’s the first credible source saying they are talking, in quite awhile. Stearns has to know this is the difference maker.
  7. I just read rosenthal’s tweet from sat eve. Mentioning the brewers and Mets talking to kimbrel’s Camp, and the Mets being interested in signing kimbrel if he’s flexible on not having to pitch the 9th. Here’s to hoping he’s not, and gets the Mets out of the kimbrel sweepstakes. I love this news! I hope it’s down to the braves and brewers. The braves are cheap, I hope mark steps up! This would be such a shot in the arm!
  8. Agree with your take completely except maybe things have changed in the Brewers eyes in regards to the young trio and their troubles starting. I hope not, but maybe. Plus in all likelihood it would keep us from signing Kimbrel, who is spectacular.
  9. Nice to have? Not so sure bout that. Do we really need another depth starter? Just asking. The crew going with the trio in rotation to develope as starters, plus Chacín Davies Anderson Wilkerson Houser And soon Nelson. That’s 9. Maybe he’s a better option than 3 or 4 of those 9, but maybe not. Unless we develope our trio in AAA, but not sure we should do that.
  10. You are making so many rhetorical leaps and assumptions in this post that I don't even really know where to begin. You've created a narrative in your head of how you believe this has all happened, and you're refusing to allow for any variables, while also seemingly getting upset that other posters aren't on board with your narrative. As I've mentioned to you before, this is not going to help you win any arguments. I've attempted to do that, and it's just made me look like a fool. I think other posters are just trying to help you see that there is quite possibly other variables in play other than the team being hamstrung by budget constraints. Ok, other reasons possible. I can’t totally refute that.
  11. Tbbc, great explanation! Your observations and thoughts are really sharp, spot on. Now that we saw a team head & shoulders better than the crew, the dodgers, how do we beat them? How do we win the central and advance, and get past the dodgers? Continue to develope woody Burnes peralta houser by having them start either in milw. Or AAA. When Nelson comes back go to 6 man, rotating Nelson woody peralta houser Burnes to pen as multi-inning pen arms. So pen would have min of 2-3 high quality multi-inning arms capable of pitching 2-4 innings at a time. Trade deadline add a Soria or better arm to go with Hader jeffress Kimbrel Then for playoffs 3 of ( Nelson Burnes Woodruff Peralta Houser Wilkerson Perdomo Guerra Brown Rasmussen )to go multi-inning, rubber arm Claudio, Hader jeffress kimbrel trade aq. Starters among Davies Anderson chacin Nelson Burnes Woodruff Peralta Dominant, unique superpen only way to overcome Andrew Friedman’s 200 mil dodgers team. Imo.
  12. Thanks for the response jmb. Just for the record, I’ve never said brewers ownership is cheap. Atlanta > cheap. Pittsburgh > cheap. Medicals? Very low % that’s the reason. For one thing, I don’t believe stearns would have been able to or wanted to spend what was being asked by Kimbrel’s camp at THAT time. I don’t believe they were close and therefore no medicals. Personality, clubhouse? Low % that’s the reason, not gonna explain. Regression? Do you really think that could be a legitimate reason? Velo > no change. Curve still devastating. Went thru some knebel like loss of command in the playoffs, but in all reality prob just a blip. So I’d say low % on regression. Not comfortable with multi-year deal? Ok, maybe that’s it, but I would argue, since Stearns M/O is all about value, he would think to get kimbrel for LESS than wade davis would be a steal of a deal. Also could trade him after this year, or at next yrs deadline, when knebel could be back. Low % on not being comfortable on multi-year. I guess it could be one of those reasons you gave or maybe one that as tbbc said we just won’t know till he signs, and maybe not even then. I think if we are being honest, the highest % reason by far would be the ownership’s budget, and wanting to and expecting to make a certain profit. Injuries or fatigue (Knebel Jeffress )graduation to the starting staff (Woodruff Burnes )be darned. “All in” really? That picture a kid took with Mark A on Twitter where, according to the poster he asked Mark if we were going to get kimbrel and mark said we’re trying Now that I do believe he said.
  13. There could be any number of reasons why not and no matter how many times you post that you want him signed you still don't know any of them. None of us do. Maybe it will come out (what the hold up was) once he signs with the Brewers or another team. Any number of reasons? Other than not wanting to spend the $, curious what those reasons might be?
  14. Gio averaged a shade over 5 innings per start with the Brewers - the same as Wade Miley - but with a much better track record. I'm curious as to whom you think is out there that can be had for a similar price, that can actually help. I'm not arguing, just asking - I'm not sure that you could get Keuchel or Kimbrel as cheaply, and I don't see anyone else out there (unless you're thinking about giving up assets in a trade) worth bothering with. Kuechel probably 15-18 mil for this year including the prorated. Kimbrel probably as low as 9 mil for this year if backloaded 3, prorated. Then traded or we’d have him for 33 mil next 2 years. So to answere your question > kimbrel probably closest to gio price wise. I agree with Ricky, we already have have enough depth in the rotation, gio NOT a difference maker imo. Getting kimbrel for maybe a few mil more be like adding ANOTHER HADER to this staff.
  15. Your plan, as good as it is, would be my plan B My plan A: Sign Kuechel AND Kimbrel. Trade Kuechel at this year’s deadline Trade kimbrel at next year’s deadline Kimbrel massively improves our pen for this year, and next year till knebel and Wahl are back. Keuchel gives us a big time quality starter till Nelson and or Burnes re-establishes themselves in our rotation. Prospect haul could be massive, at worst more than what we’d lose with lower round draft choices givin up. If we backload Kimbrel’s contract, we could have use of both for this year at 20-22 mil Or do plan B > Gio and Kimbrel for 13-18 mil So, if we are in a pennant chase this year, you want to trade away one of the guys who got us there? (Kuechel) Makes zero sense. Same with next year, you want to take a team in the middle of a pennant chase, and trade their closer (Kimbrel) This logic makes no sense unless our playoff hopes have diminished, and we are out of it. No sense at all. Also, unless I missed something earlier, why would Kimbrel only cost us 6 million? Kuechel if we traded at deadline would cost the team acquiring him only 6 mil for the 2 months they had him This scenario is NOT what I want to have happen, but IF $ is THAT much a factor just trying to figure out a way to get the kind of player we need to win THIS year. I’m for the life of me, trying to think of a legitimate reason we wouldn’t sign kimbrel to, IF needed, backloaded 3 year deal. 3 @ 45 9 MIL THIS YEAR. 16 mil in 2020 and 17 in 2021 Backload 3 mil and prorated 1/6 of this year 3 mil Then if Attanasio decides not to spend on kimbrel next yr we trade him We get another JOSH HADER the rest of this year for 9 mil WHY WOUDNT WE DO THIS DEAL?
  16. I think the front offices hands are tied in regards to kimbrel or Kuechel. I believe stearns would have signed kimbrel when he dropped his price and years to what’s been reported.
  17. IMO the issue is: People on this site trust David Stearns to build a quality pen on the cheap. Because that’s Stearns M/O. People on this site love Mark Attanasio and believe when he said we’re “all in”and have done what we can do budget wise other than at the trade deadline, believe him with all of their heart and minds. I call it small-marketitis, with blind trust mixed in.
  18. They gonna own the entire NL. There head & shoulders better than anyone else, and it’s not close. The good news is they probably not gonna get too much better, while I think, the crew, like last year, will. Gonna need a dominating pen to have any chance to beat them though.
  19. I’m not a Jacob Barnes fan, but he is pitching well since that first weekend series against the cards. I hope he can continue, it would be a big boost for this pen.
  20. I can’t believe CC would pitch Guerra 3 days in a row. He’s only been a pen arm less than a year
