  1. Wow, way to paint 37 million people with a broad brush. Heck, way to paint "most Midwesterners" with that same brush. Anyway, despite being from SF I will agree with others here that SoCal will probably be a better place to spend with kids in terms of theme parks and the like, although if the cost of putting the fam on a LAX-SFO flight gets unwieldy, there is plenty for families to do here in the area as well if you decide to spend the entire time up here. Besides the stuff mentioned earlier, a pretty cool CGI Peter Pan show just opened up along the Embarcadero. Feel free to drop me a line closer to your trip--I'll be at all three games. It's a great park.
  2. I think maybe the atmosphere surrounding it added to the impression. Casey had just been hit and the feed had shown him muttering angrily about it for quite some time before the play--it was commented on repeatedly. As he came in to second base I thought, "Well, this should be interesting." The only real problem I have with it is how late it was--it was a clean slide, no doubt, but from his angle I assume Casey could see Aybar was in a weird position and had no throw.
  3. Watching last night Casey's slide did seem kinda bush to me in that it was awfully late. Like he was trying to take out his frustrations on getting hit. I disagree that he was trying to actually hurt anyone, though--spikes weren't up, et cetera. That said I won't be surprised to see someone get beaned tonight.
  4. I've got my folks in town (from Wisconsin, actually), and so all I saw was a minute or two of the top of the 9th last night...can't believe I missed one of if not the coolest win of the year.
  5. I despise watching this team right now Dear Lord, can't pitch, can't field, bats go all limpy
  6. I'm beyond demoralized and to apathetic. I wonder if I sent Mark A my Extra Innings bill, would he reimburse me?!? I'm only looking forward to two things now, how the team will respond to new management, and the trade deadline.
  7. I'm more than OK with this as it lays...I'm with SoCal and hope we see Hawkins back and effective sooner than later Otherwise, uff da. Riske 2.0. I thought it was a pretty good signing at the time but: uff da.
  8. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/fe/Bicycle_fat.jpg (bf.net friendly) Congrats, Jody--I've been a fan since you were a Pad and this is an awesome accomplishment. Man, I'm ticked I didn't DVR tonight's game.
  9. Yeah, I was a little surprised by that, even knowing Macha. If they can give Soup a relatively short rope as a starter, surely he can let go of the idea of "roles" that must be played through in that situation. I'll be awfully interested in seeing the roster and makeup of this team by the end of next month. Anyway, I gotta say, getting Vin Scully's feed made the ending of that one more palatable--that fella is all class and dignity. I can only imagine how insufferable and painfully digging it would've been to hear any of the Chicago guys (both teams) or the Marlins' or Reds' or Cards' announcers call that (I love the Giants' guys, but they would've been bad, too). Heck, I even preferred hearing it from him over BA and Rock.
  10. Hawkins has been a big, big disappointment to me thus far. I gotta say, even with the GS, I'm not too upset about tonight's loss even though the moral victory of them hanging tough with Bush and Soup and tying it at the end won't mean squat in the end. Would've been awfully nice to get one more on the Cards. Right now I'm just glad it's still only 10:44 where I'm at....sorry for all you who stayed up til quarter to 1 to see that finish.
  11. Brewers should be protecting a lead right now, that strike zone for Broxton was ridiculous
  12. Awesome, I'm glad people recognized LouisEly right away--felt bad about missing it, I thought he was going tonight. I did see you stand up for Prince's jack on MLB Network later that night!
  13. One of the best sets of pipes in the game. RIP.
  14. That shot was taken on an Orlando-to-Midway flight yesterday, so I assume it's taking regular passengers. I've flown on a few odd cross-sponsored planes on Southwest for the NBA and the like, so I think it's just promotional.
  15. Whoa! After a particularly cramped red-eye a couple years ago I swore off AirTran, but I might have to make an exception if this livery makes a SFO-MKE run. Will they serve brats and New Glarus on-board? Play "Roll Out the Barrell" after we cross the Rockies? Captain Pete Vuckovich?
  16. I bet Prince gets a nice ovation tonight. Hopefully he responds to it.
  17. When I looked at the standings this morning for the first time, this, indeed, did demoralize. What a waste.
  18. I'm demoralized, in maybe the lightest sense of the word. Not so much in the overall performance, although it's slightly worse than I'd have expected (and I guess in that broader sense I'm kinda disappointed in slow starts from guys like Sharpie, Alcides, and even Prince), just the individual ways they've lost so many late leads. Those kinds of gut punches can't help but demoralize, maybe even more than getting their cans kicked by the Cubs at MP. That said, I agree that we've a ways to go, and maybe I'm crazy, but I think the worst could be over in terms of blown saves (knocking on wood here) and you have to feel confident that Prince will heat up (as Sharpie will, presumably). And who knows what the tradewinds could bring. In yesterday's IGT I was all for going on a "Brewers' Break" to stave off aggravation, but I'm full of it. For one thing, as one of brewerfan's West Coast contingent, I love weeknight games that I can watch the entirety of, but the fact is, even if they stay as they've been I won't mentally pack it in on the season until July 4th (and even then, of course, it could be too early) and as such am still keyed in, despite the gut-punch losses. Now, if any furniture gets thrown around this weekend after another late innings lead is choked away, yeah, I might take that break regardless!
  19. Jeez, those extras were just a total disgusting waste of my time--I wish the Pirates had gotten another run off Trevor in the 9th. Earliest I've gone on a Brewers' Break in quite a while--this team is not only not fun to watch right now, they're the opposite of fun--complete aggravation.
  20. Wow, well, I didn't foresee Edmonds stealing there...guess he still has some pep
  21. I'm a little surprised (and I say this without prejudice) that Macha isn't trying to bunt here
