  1. No, that's not him either
  2. Jonathan Richman? Ira Levin?
  3. Yeah, I can't imagine how any of those ailments could possibly affect a pitcher.
  4. I don't even want to mention it, but Gueillermo Rodriguez catching a ball in the windpipe Sunday afternoon and then hitting his first career homerun the next inning was pretty impressive
  5. My prediction is definitely on the sunny side. 1-2 at Cubs 2-1 vs. Pirates 3-0 vs. Astros 1-2 at Reds 1-2 at Pirates 2-1 vs. Reds 2-1 at Astros 2-2 at Braves 2-1 vs. Cardinals 3-1 vs. Padres The Braves just aren't as frightening to me as they were...I think the Crew can take two there. And the last week at home is huge with this team, regardless of it being two good teams. I think 19-14 is completely possible if Sheets is 100%.
  6. Cubs: 84-78...wins one-game playoff Brewers: 84-78 Cardinals: 81-81 Elsewhere... AL East: BOS AL Central: DET AL West: LAA AL WC: CLE NL East: NYM NL Central: CHC NL West: ARZ NL WC: SD
  7. I agree, but it's just so hard to take that record at face value. All the same, I'm with the glass-half-full crowd and tend to look at it as it will trend positively in this last 20%.
  8. Yeah, normally I subscribe to the old adage that we're fans, not cheerleaders, but I'm with you here. Yesterday I was in the tunnel watching the Brewers walk from the dugout to the clubhouse right after the game and I shouted some stuff at them I regret now. Nothing truly harsh ("Come on guys!," "We need you, Ben"... stuff like that) but nothing that was ultimately helpful in the slightest and it didn't even come close to making me feel better. If anything, I felt like an idiot. I really hope the fans in Milwaukee are as quick to cheer as it seems they've been to boo. Now is when the team needs support.
  9. What happened to him and his IGTs? I know I'm not the only one who noticed that things really started to head South for the Brew Crew about the time he disappeared. I hope everything's OK.
  10. My mere presence. I was 0-5 seeing them between San Diego and San Francisco this year and present for two sweeps.
  11. Point well taken, but that one had just about scabbed over...oof
  12. That was a heart-wrenching post, casey Now I feel bad about feeling good about Wunder Porter
  13. Just wanted to repost this since apparently some didn't read it. Anyway, my choice would be the Giants...great stadium, mostly nice and knowledgable fans, enemies of a couple teams I mostly can't stand, likeable players (outside of the white elephant), and they play a couple miles from me. For better or for worse, I am True Blue Brew Crew for life, though. http://brewcrew.mlblogs.com/brewcrewmlbblogscom/images/ph_bernie_brewer_2881_2.jpg "I wish I could quit you."
  14. To be fair regarding the "overreacting" bit, this article is ten days old. I agree with most of its sentiments, and I don't think the writer would necessarily say 100% the same things now but I also don't think he'd jump on the Gloom Buggy quite yet either
  15. This was Rodriguez's first home run of his career...tell me how Yost could have predicted this. Bush had a good pitch count, had just struck out Ortmeier, and the matchups were looking good. I'm not one to normally put sunshine on the Vent Thread's black parade, but come on.
  16. I've got a million vents after this saddest weekend of the year for me personally, but suffice it to say that Ned is absolutely not at fault today. I guess my other vent is that my wife took a ton of really great photos of the team this weekend but no one around here--even me--wants to be reminded of it.
  17. I was down in the tunnel right after the game ended tonight, watching the Brewers walk from the dugout to the clubhouse, and I literally felt a lump in my throat watching them make the walk. They all looked so down in the dumps and cooked and defeated and slumped over. I don't buy for a second that they've given up, but their mental state is depressing to say the least, not even taking into account the actual on-field action and standings. Anyway, I'm not even angry anymore, just sad. Like the Brewers, I guess.
  18. I, for one, quiver with anticipation I won't quite put that in blue. The level of my anger with Prince acting out like a child against that ump will be determined by Dillon's performance the next two nights
  19. I like it, too...I wouldn't mind striking while the iron is hot with Gabe, but hopefully Corey can get back on track starting tonight I wouldn't mind a Jenks PH bomb in front of his home-area crowd, either
  20. I'm going to the game tonight as well as Saturday and Sunday and couldn't be more excited given the situation, especially if Sheets pitches tomorrow (although I'd love to see Yo, too). On the other hand, I flew down and watched them play in San Diego in May and they got swept (at least I saw Braun's first Major League home run), so if they lose tonight and tomorrow I might skip Sunday! I'll be wearing my Cerveceros shirt and my shaggy Turnbow-esque hair under my Brewers' cap loud and proud.
  21. Have you ever been to Mobile and Jackson? It'd be like Madison or Kalamazoo trying to get one Birmingham, maybe
  22. A lot of people think Milwaukee's a crummy place, too, for baseball and otherwise. I grew up in Sarasota, and while the Marlins don't have much of an excuse, I feel like baseball and the franchise in Tampa Bay was never given a fair shake. This is a team that has never won more than 70 games, has three 100+ loss seasons and maybe one more this year (and two 99 loss seasons!). No wonder no one is coming out. It's a self-perpetuating cycle. The area was treated like a pawn for more than a decade by every team wanting a new stadium (we came within minutes of the Tampa Bay White Sox, for one) and people were already pretty bitter about MLB by the team the team was awarded. Fair enough, that's in the past, but then when they finally get the team they're saddled with incredibly awful management (the Devil Rays franchise may literally never recover from the Naimoli/LaMar reign of incompetence) and born into what was already an out-of-date, uncomfortable stadium and a brutal division that said awful management begged for. Most folks from that area are from somewhere else, with fan baggage from elsewhere, but like everywhere else they'll pull for a winner and they'll rally around their new local winning team like they did with the Bucs in the 90s and Phoenix did with the D-Backs. But they haven't gotten there yet. I say MLB needs to have a Tampa Bay team finish within at least a few games of .500 in their existence before they deem baseball not feasible down there.
