  1. Did you read the article? Basically the body armor is more of a machine that forces his swing to be perfect every time. He is only allowed to use it because he has been 'grandfathered' in, new players can't wear one unless they have proof of an injury. Regardless, it's not technically "cheating." So if it was found out that Tiger Woods had some sort of implant in his arm that forced his swing to be perfect every time, it would be allowable and not considered cheating? Also - steroids have always been illegal. Baseball does not supersede the law. Just because steroids weren't against the rules of baseball at one point doesn't make it okay for players to have taken them during that time. Sports armor isn't illegal under any federal, state or municipal laws I'm familiar with, and that's what at's issue here. He was grandfathered in under baseball's armor rule, therefore he isn't breaking any rules and therefore not cheating when he wears it. Steroids are a completely different issue--I believe he took them but believe it's not quantifiable--but let's not dogpile here about other very gray areas.

  3. Dr. Hook was an originator of that kind of stuff...sounds like Great White lifted their rhyme scheme, too: Well we're big rock singers, we've got golden fingers And we're loved everywhere we go We sing about beauty and we sing about truth At ten thousand dollars a show We take all kind of pills to give us all kind of thrills But the thrill we've never known Is the thrill that'll get you when you get your picture On the cover of the Rolling Stone
  4. Does Yuku have a killfile function or do we have to put up with crummy one-liners until this guy gets banned?
  5. [insert Johnny Estrada Joke Here]
  6. Same here, we ditched cable a few years ago and I can't say I miss it...we spent so much time watching garbage when we had it that you scarcely realize at the time. On the other hand, the internet has its tether hooks in me...I feel like at the least it's a little more interactive than television.
  7. I would've booed El Caballo if he had signed with the Cubs
  8. But it's interesting that they have had almost as many. The games do all count the same but I agree that this time of year, given the minute lead we have, is not the time for these meltdowns to be piling up and makes me very nervous as to the physical and mental state of our pen.
  9. The strange thing is, most stadiums I've been to actually cheer for former players unless they've spoken ill of the team or city, or unless they'd been consistently lazy or done something really bad when they were with the team. That doesn't fit the bill for the majority of ex-Brewers who have gotten booed the last couple years.
  10. Nice list but I'd flip 9 and 7...that Wednesday loss to the Mets was really brutal given the Brewers coughed up the game lead twice that game and lost the division lead that night.
  11. UGK-International Players' Anthem is what I consider my Song of Summer '07, although I'm not sure it's THE Song of Summer '07 I'm always fascinated by the concept of the "Song of the Summer"-- a song that gets played to death that gets inextricably connected to that particular summer. Last year I think it was definitely "Crazy" with "Steady As She Goes" running a decent second place.
  12. I just said the same thing in the Other Games IGT Given the options I'll choose to be happy about it!
  13. Congrats, Glavine, and thanks On one hand, I'm glad that this afternoon's debacle didn't cost us in the standings today On the other, we were a strike away from gaining a game (how many times this year have we said that) I guess given the options I'll choose to be happy about it!
  14. Ya do the hokey-pokey and ya shake it all about
  15. And the Cubs inch back in
  16. Do you know how many emails/text messages I got from my Cub fan friends when Big Ben went down (again)? I'm not necessarily rooting for it, but I can't say it bothers me in the slightest.
  17. We're just going to have to learn to take the crunchy with the smooth this year
  18. I hate that the momentum picked up the last two days has vanished. I hate that I've grown so accustomed to being worried about holding big late leads that when I went to lunch this afternoon as the 8th inning started I fully expected to come back and see the Crew had lost...and to have that fear realized! I hate that I care so much about this team because they've stabbed me right in the guts about a dozen times this year...my wife has already said she can't wait for this season to be over.
  19. Ditto. I would've loved to have seen Aaraon hold on to the record much longer but he had a good run. The level of vitriol towards Bonds never fails to slightly shock me. Like everyone else I'll be glad when it's over, though.
  20. Preceding (and very interesting) conversation aside, I was less than pleased at the way averages or Pythagoras or fate or whatever you want to blame it on came into play and the division turned into a race, but if we're going to be treated to drama and games like tonight on a regular basis, then I'll learn to live with it.
  21. I bet that Ramirez flyout brought one of the loudest of many, many false alarm cheers from the Wrigley crowd
  22. After reading the J-S article, I'm even less concerned than I was before. They're frustrated and punchy after a crummy couple of weeks...I don't think it's indicative of deeper-rooted issues.
  23. Man the grapes are sour around here lately I don't really care what kind of jerks Cubs fans are in their own park (how they act at MP is another story), whether the Brewers get the job done on the field or not.
