  1. I would pitch Hader today for sure. Only pitched 6 times the whole month and has allowed runs 4 times. I think he needs the work. He's pitched twice in 19 days.
  2. As a former 13th round pick who has a career 4.50ish ERA and 1.50ish WHIP in the minors, only marginally better in 2021, and is still in A ball, is not somebody I'm going to lose any sleep over.
  3. I'm still trying to figure out why anybody would even want Hosmer. And that includes the Padres 4 years ago. His fWAR is basically zero since he went to SD. He isn't a very good defender either. And you can get all of that for only $60+ million.
  4. I've assumed the Yankees would be on the hook for all of Gallo's 2022 salary but none of his remaining 2021 salary. If that were to be true, my analysis of the trade would have it as a pretty balanced deadline trade.
  5. I don’t disagree that he’s no longer a third base option, but what data are you citing to support a claim of poor performance at first? Maybe there are other metrics, but his OAA is negative at first. His UZR/150 ratings are negative. Both of those measurements are worse than Hiura's are. He hasn't played first in 3 years. He views himself as a RF and I'm still not sure he'd welcome a return to 1B.

  7. I too am one, well actually there are very few it seems, that do not want Gallo. I'm too old school and like guys that can actually hit for average but I realize the game has evolved away from that, unfortunately. I just think too many of you view him as a corner infielder guy and I just don't think that is all that realistic. He was a train wreck at third and not very good at first either.
  8. What's mostly killed Luzardo has been the homers he's allowed. At least at the major league level thus far. Admittedly, he's been terrible across the board this year, majors and minors. Perhaps the move to Miami will help him flourish. Still seems like a gamble worth taking for Miami.
  9. Does Toro's homer in his first Seattle at bat help ease the pain for the Mariners players? I don't know if Toro will ever amount to much but he's not a bum by any means.
  10. What I thought was incredibly stupid then and really seems so now, but after the 2019 season, he decided to change his swing. Dude, you just won the MVP, if it aint broke don't change it. But he did and the results ever since have been pretty horrific.
  11. I think you are selling Marcano short a bit as a prospect, too. Ranking #5 in the Padres' stacked system is no small feat. Marcano would likely be #1 or #2 in the Brewers' system (ahead of Turang). He's legit. Marcano isn't a bad prospect but I'd still say Turang is the better prospect of the two. Baseball America has Turang with a 60 hit tool and 40 power versus 50 and 30 for Marcano. Speed and defense are identical. I too prefer MLB pipeline or BA to fangraphs ratings.
  12. He was a starting pitcher early on. Once moved to the pen he was right around 95 and is at 97.5 today.
  13. I don't think the Rays gave up on Adames too early. He couldn't hit there, and while it's difficult to do so, he may have let it get into his head to such a point it was impacting his play. Plus they had Franco to replace him. They almost certainly would have traded Adames in the offseason anyway as they wouldn't have wanted to pay him while having his likely ready replacement on hand. They knew they needed bullpen help so they made a trade they felt would best help them win a championship this year. Sure, and I hesitated even putting Adames in there but I figured people would relate to that. It’s only 1 sentence of a much larger point. Turang is a very good young prospect that should not be and will not be just given away. Agreed on Turang. I am more than willing to move him if that means getting a top-rated rental like Bryant or somebody like Mancini that can help you for a year+. I do not want him moved, nor expect him to be moved, for just a guy that would be only a marginal upgrade somewhere.
  14. I don't think the Rays gave up on Adames too early. He couldn't hit there, and while it's difficult to do so, he may have let it get into his head to such a point it was impacting his play. 15. Freddie would be an unbelievable add but highly unlikely even if the Braves end up as sellers as I suspect they will at least to some degree. I think both parties truly want to get an extension done that will keep him in a Braves uniform for the rest of his career.
  16. From what I see, Hill was making $2.5 million and Hunter $2.25 million. Was Hill making more than that through incentives? I could see the Rays cutting salary to help pay for the addition of Cruz but a $100K reduction isn't going to move the needle much.
  17. Or you could be the Atlanta Braves and try to make the playoffs ever year during their long run. That was clearly their goal. They basically insisted on having the best 4th and 5th starters in the game for many years. Forget about the bench, forget about the bullpen. Sure it helped them make the playoffs for a long period of time but many of those years they had no realistic shot to win the WS. Perhaps if they allocated their resources better around their big 3 or went all in on occasion they may not have made the playoffs every year but perhaps would have won more than 1 title.
  18. I agree with this take. Packers were in a prime position to go for it after making the NFC Championship and they proceeded to take four rounds of draft capital to select three third stringers. That's because their mentality seems to always be to remain the best team in the division first and foremost not going all in to win a Super Bowl. Bucks took the opposite tact by seemingly overpaying for Holiday, trying to trade for Bogdanovic before that got messed up, etc. The Brewers are probably in their best position to win a title since 1982. Now it's possible they could be in this exact position next year and the year after but who knows what will happen with the pitching staff in any given year. I think the Brewers should be willing to trade Turang, Hiura, Small or Ashby to get something done. Not saying all those guys should go or they should all be part of a single trade package but there is no guarantee they will be in a better position the rest of the decade.
  19. Over the last 5 years probably the two best relievers traded at the deadline were Chapman and Melancon, both in 2016. Chapman brought back one of the top prospects in the game, McKinney who was no longer a real prospect and a decent reliever in Warren. Melancon brought back a roughly 15th ranked prospect in Hearn and a young reliever in Vazquez who was basically a 15th ranked prospect early on and had been pretty solid in his time prior to the trade but had some upside. So what does that mean for Kimbrel who is having a better year to date than Hader? Probably a return somewhere between the two trades mentioned above. I think teams are reluctant to include prospects like Torres today (although what's happened to him the last 2 years?) but they might be able to get a top-100 guy or maybe a pair of some teams top 10s (lower end).
  20. Why can't Cruz be at least as competent at first base as Hiura who never played the position before this season. I wouldn't want Cruz playing in the outfield but I would trust him enough at first base. Moot point since Cruz is going to Tampa but there were so many reasons why he wouldn't have been an option. Hiura at least played on the infield, something that Cruz never did. Hiura had all off-season to prep for it. Cruz is what 16-17 years older? Cruz hasn't even been asked to play the OF in like 3 years. It just was never going to happen.
  21. And as I posted previously, Archer's ERA outside of Trop in 2016-18 prior to the trade was nearly 5. It's not just Adames that can't hit in the Trop. It's everyone.
  22. I'm pretty convinced that's all it was. Heck, I had a friend come in from out of state for the day just to say he was on Wisconsin soil when the Bucks won a championship.
  23. Unless Adames has two more months like he just had, I figure something along the lines of 3/$25 million in arbitration and then maybe a FA contract of maybe $18 million per year. Say he's looking at 4/$42, 5/$60 million through that period. For any deal to make sense for the Brewers, I'm thinking 4/$34, 5/$45 might make some sense.
  24. As a lifelong fan of the Pirates (they were my team before the Brewers even existed), I hated the trade from their standpoint. They were clearly selling low on Glasnow and I was then, and still am, a big fan of Baz who was more than a throw in to me. Reviewing the trade again it probably wasn't quite as bad as it looks today. Archer did have a very favorable, seemingly, contract and Glasnow had yet to do much in the majors. Through the 2018 season he was just 4-16 with a 5.35 ERA. The Pirates weren't even using him as a starter in 2018. He turned into an ace in 2019 and Archer really fell apart so the trade looks horrendous today with the benefit of hindsight. So from the Pirates standpoint, maybe the trade should be viewed as a C- at the time of the trade that quickly turned into a resounding F. Another reason to be skeptical of Archer was his Tropicana 3.26 home ERA (2016-18) and 4.92 road ERA. It's just flat out hard to hit in the Trop.
