  1. I watched a bit of the Cubs game on TBS last night against the Blue Jays. They are not in a good headspace right now - several outward displays of frustration at repeated failure to deliver on opportunities. PCA, in particular, is struggling mightily and he’s not handling it well. They have a big lead in the WC race, and I don’t think they’ll collapse that much, but it’s going to start becoming an issue if this bad aura keeps up much longer. The Brewers could help that along directly next week (gotta think the out of town scoreboard has been doing a number on their heads, too).
  2. Division: 37 CHC #1 seed: 38 PHL Top 2 seed: 37 CHC Top wild card spot: 36 LAD, SDP (in case you hadn’t noticed, the Dads have caught the Dodgers - dead heat in the West) Any wild card spot: 30 CIN Next team to be eliminated (currently Washington): 16
  3. On offense, baseball's really more of an individual sport than say basketball or football. You can measure who the best individual offensive producers are. Yeah, the individual Brewers aren't on the top end of those lists, but they are playing much more like a team on offense than just about everyone else. I don't know the stats to prove it, but everyone sees that undeniable woodpeckers vibe.
  4. Matt Arnold. But for realsies, I would still vote for Yelich, because he's the least replaceable part of this machine (at least with a single player). I suppose that statement makes somewhat of a case for Contreras, too.
  5. That song is really about people living in the past, though (people also misconstrue what Born in the USA is about, too). I guess just don't think too hard about it. There are lots of other choices, though - it's a way different genre, but "All I Do Is Win" is probably the most apropos.
  6. I mean, how can you be uneasy about any game any more? Only half-joking - despite the Skenes factor, I kinda do have the feeling the Brewers are more likely to win tonight
  7. Colorado can officially no longer catch the Brewers - they have been eliminated. (Note: I had been miscounting their magic number due to not considering that Milwaukee owns the tiebreaker) Rockies not getting up. Division: 39 CHC #1 seed: 40 PHL Top 2 seed: 39 CHC Top wild card spot: 38 LAD Any wild card spot: 31 CIN Next team to be eliminated (currently Washington): 18
  8. That's pretty interesting, thanks. The Brewers were pretty average in opponent errors last year, but this year we are way above last year's highest rate. I also notice that the '24 ranks and the '25 ranks seem to have no correlation - e.g.. #1 and #2 last year are #13 and #20 this year. In other words, Brew Crew Voodoo is at work...
  9. The Pirates were 9-1 before their 4-6 stretch, but the trade deadline saw them deal Falter, Bednar, Ferguson, Hayes, and Frazier. They still have a bunch of guys in the lineup that you've at least heard of, but they weren't scoring much before the trades - they're dead last in runs scored. While the pitching has been reasonably good, losing Bednar and Ferguson out of the pen is a gut punch - still have a couple guys with good numbers, but now sporting at least 3 guys with less than 10 appearances with the big club. More than most teams, getting to their pen in the 5th or 6th should lead to joy.
  10. Well, it's at least a little bit clever to find a song that mentions a number in the 40s (and I've heard of Dave Matthews and U2...). If you're going to post pictures of random things with numbers on them, why not post pics of a house's address, or highway signs? (uh oh)
  11. Saw somewhere on this board that the Brewers are 21-10 in the last 31 times they fell behind after being 2-20 before that. Still below .500. If my math is right, that makes us 50-14 when we score first…
  12. I was reading one of those MLB power rankings articles and I came across this - the Phillies were not in first place after losing a game last Saturday - they now have a 5 1/2 game lead.
  13. Division: 40 (CHC) #1 seed: 41 (PHL) Top 2 seed: 40 (CHC and LAD) Top wild card spot: 38 (SDP) Any wild card spot: 33 (CIN) Next team to be eliminated (currently Colorado): 3 What does NASCAR have to do with the Brewers (or Wisconsin sports) other than the cars have numbers on them? I honestly couldn’t name a single current driver..
  14. Since losing 2 of 3 at the Mets at the beginning of July, the Brewers have gone 23-5. That’s including two series against the Dodgers and one each against the Mariners, Cubs, and now the Mets - all current playoff teams (the Marlins are 3 of those losses - our kryptonite). The Mets are 13-16 since that time. Listen, I’m as greedy as anyone, but it wouldn’t surprise me if we let up a little today. It’ll be more important to eat some innings with Priester and lower-leverage pen guys. We’re so hot right now that maybe we’ll get to their quality southpaw and grind it out.
  15. We’re at Jackie Robinson’s number, so someone should find a pic from the game every year that everyone wears that number. Division: 42 (CHC) #1 seed: 42 (CHC, LAD, PHL) Top 2 seed: 42 (CHC, LAD and PHL) Top wild card spot: 39 (SDP) Any wild card spot: 34 (CIN) Next team to be eliminated (currently Colorado): 5
  16. Currently 34. Give it about 4-5 weeks.
  17. I mean, pretty much everyone who follows the team closely knows about the desire to limit the Miz's innings. There's little denying that the injury was pretty convenient toward that objective. They may not have planned it ahead of time (and thus Henderson's scramble to join the team), but they probably did understand the benefits. And I don't care. Use the system to your advantage.
  18. Cubs fan posted the thought that at this point, having the Mets lose might be the better outcome for their playoff chances. What a difference in the vibe of the two fanbases.
  19. Division: 43 (CHC) #1 seed: 43 (CHC, LAD, PHL) Top 2 seed: 43 (CHC, LAD and PHL) Top wild card spot: 40 (SDP) Any wild card spot: 35 (CIN) Next team to be eliminated (currently Colorado): 7 Quote
  20. I was pretty good at making contact, no matter what. I had also predetermined that I was swinging at just about anything, so not a great approach - didn't walk much. I wonder whether some big leaguers might be doing something similar against the 100+ MPH guys, though.
  21. I love Hits McGehee. This list also doesn't include Anthony "Larry" Siegler
  22. First off, congrats on not saying intensive purposes... I agree that the division crown is the right one to use for the thread overall (and the basis for the uniform number pics of players). Period. But I do also consider passing the playoff-clinching number as worthy of some celebrating - making the post-season is really the first big rung on the ladder of achievements, no matter how inevitable it currently seems. I also like checking off the teams as we eliminate them. That might be a me thing.
  23. Division: 45 (CHC) #1 seed: 45 (CHC) Top 2 seed: 44 (both LAD and PHL) Top wild card spot: 42 (SDP) Any wild card spot: 38 (CIN) Next team to be eliminated (currently Colorado): 9
  24. Yes, though I think you might start in the 7th with either Uribe or Miller and use the other in the 8th in as the "A-team". We'll see on Miller, actually - might want to ease him in a little before throwing him in the deep end to see if we can trust him.
