  1. I think the longer these SP hang out on the FA market, the better chance the Brewers have at actually signing one of them to a reasonable-ish contract. It seems teams are really playing hardball this year and the biggest of spenders aren't spending money. I'm not sure if I want it to happen or not, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the Brewers wind up with one of Arrieta, Cobb or Lynn.
  2. The thing is...McAdoo was GREAT with Rodgers. Putting him back in a role that he was super successful at isn't the worst thing. Our offense has definitely declined since those guys left. Defense on the other hand...yes, complete and utter overhaul would be ideal.
  3. The thing is the teams (most years) that are ranked 5-7 are MUCH closer to the #1 team than the teams ranked 9-10. It also gives teams like UCF an actual shot. They might be the best team in the country this year, but we'll NEVER find out the way the current system is setup. Four out of 130 teams is simply not enough to determine a true champion and it really only gives a few schools a shot. In no other sport, could you go undefeated and not come close to a title.
  4. You'll always have the argument that we need more teams, but i think it's quite clear this year that FOUR simply isn't enough.
  5. I've said it in a previous post...but the Browns are in a prime spot to turn this around. Say what you want about an LA guy not wanting to live in Cleveland, but on the field... Decent defense, with decent pieces. Solid WR core (Gordon potentially, Coleman and I'd expect a Pryor reunion here) and the TE they just drafted whose name is escaping me. 110+ million in cap space 2 top 5 picks this year (including number 1) 3 second round picks this year (2 in the top 5 of the round) 2 third round picks (including the top pick) Throw in a rookie QB this year and you have another top ten pick next year most likely and you can build in a hurry. They have to get these picks right obviously, but maybe they go QB and LT in round one, or QB and RB (Barkley) or whatever they choose to do, they'll have a TON of option and could really build a team much much better than the 0-16 record they put up IMO.
  6. Something is going to happen with Nelson or Cobb or both. They aren't going to pay three WR 35 million next season.
  7. There's also the possibility that they can "make up" an injury, who is to say he didn't suffer something minor in the Carolina game? ANY type of "new" injury would suffice. Even if it's just "shoulder soreness" indicating he wasn't fully healed.
  8. As much as we love to make fun of the Browns, paul253 is correct here. They actually have some decent building blocks, they have two top 10 picks, a bunch of second rounders and they'll likely be picking in the top 5 next year too. If they hit on those picks (and those are big ifs), but 3 top 10 picks, picks at the top of the second round...they can actually rebound relatively quickly potentially. They still lack a QB, but whatever QB finally resurrects that franchise will be a legend in that city. As others have said, I'd laugh hysterically if Rosen goes back and the Browns take him next year.
  9. Winner. This is what I've been trying to say for three posts now. Jason Kidd may be a great motivator and his team clearly plays for him, but as an in-game coach...he leaves a LOT to be desired. Find it especially weird since he played the game for so long.
  10. While I agree that the odds of a 75 footer going in aren't good, why even give them the chance? It's not impossible that someone makes it. OR...Middleton's FT doesn't hit the rim and the Cavs get an inbounds pass and can throw it deep. The fact is, if he makes it, the game is over. If he misses it, it's going to hit the rim, and then the Cavs are left with a desperation 75 footer to tie. In EITHER scenario, there's the chance of someone doing something incredibly dumb and fouling. The difference being, if you're up 4 and you foul, the miracle shot STILL has to go in for them to tie. The logic behind fouling makes ZERO sense.
  11. I beg to differ. If you're standing around, not playing defense because you're up 4, it's IMPOSSIBLE to lose. The odds of a 75 footer going in are slim, but it DOES happen. Just make the FT and take away all the doubt. There's zero reason to miss on purpose in that spot.
  12. Anyone else see the end of the game last night? Bucks up 3, Middleton with a FT coming, 1.9 seconds left. Cavs out of timeouts. He makes it, Bucks go up 4, game is virtually over. Kidd instructs Middleton to miss the FT on purpose (said afterwards he was scared of a 4 point play). Cavs got the rebound and missed a 75 footer that would have tied it - albeit this is a huge longshot, but that would have TIED the game. ***??? Why not let him just try to make it. If he makes it, you can literally stand around on defense and watch. The odds of a four point play on a full court shot - well that player should be immediately cut for doing that. Granted, a 75 footer is an extreme longshot, but why even give the Cavs any sort of chance to tie??? If Middleton misses the FT, so be it, but to miss on purpose?? That's just flat out awful coaching. These are NBA players, they should be smart enough to know that up 4, with 2 seconds left, to not foul to begin with. Despite that, and blowing a huge lead, big, big win last night.
  13. Even if he sucks, this isn't that bad of a signing. Short contract, Brewers have money to spend this year and next for sure.
  14. If he plays one game in the major leagues, does that make him eligible for the HOF ballot again? And reset that clock so five more years would pass before he shows up on the ballot and maybe steriod users get in??
  15. This might be the game that really comes down to Hornibrook - as did the Michigan game. Can he avoid turnovers and make the big throws when he needs to? Really think he's going to be the X factor tomorrow.
  16. Well....an easy solution would be to move a large chunk of the student section to the upper deck. That way when they show up late or don't show up at all, nobody will notice. I have seen several sports columnists on Twitter comment on how embarrassing it is when they show it on TV in the second quarter and it's half full. I get it, it's hard to get in and students want to drink (I went to lots of games there when I was younger). But now that it's being noticed and talked about in a negative light, they need to do something to fix it. I also agree that there are some drawbacks to attending games for non-students. It's not cheap. The 11am starts make it a lot more difficult for people that live outside of the Madison area. And I know it's not in their control, but the inability for me (at 35) to not drink a beer there is pretty annoying.
  17. As cool and fun as it is to think about the playoff...they need to keep winning. Michigan will not be easy. Their defense is quite good...and with Hornibrook's tendency to not be a good QB, and Taylors fumbling problems...this is a game the offensive issues finally kill them. I hope not. And then if they do win, while MN isn't good, hopefully they don't overlook them. Be very easy to be high after beating MI and looking forward to OSU the next week and have a big letdown. Maybe it being against their biggest rival and playing for the ax would prevent that. But...one game at a time. Find a way to beat Michigan, then go from there. I'm still quite peeved that this game got the early timeslot on Saturday and Illinois/Ohio State got the 2:30 ABC game.
  18. Top of the B10 will be quite good. MSU and Purdue both for sure. Minnesota looks pretty good on paper. Badgers probably fall into line somewhere in the next tier - hopefully. Be interesting to see how they fair against Xavier tonight.
  19. My biggest problem is that it's absolutely ridiculous to have a major sport that doesn't really determine a true champion. I'm sorry but when you have 130+ teams and only FOUR have a chance to win the title, that's just kinda silly. . They've also made it virtually impossible for any time outside of the Power 5 to ever win one as well. Every other sport in the world has one essentially (that I know of at least), except NCAA Football (at the division 1 level only). I don't know what the answer is, and four teams is better than the 2 and the 0 before it, so maybe it's just a matter of time, but they need to figure out a way to have a real tournament in some fashion.
  20. I just simply do not buy the "these are kids and students" argument. EVERY other NCAA sport has a true tournament at the end - including EVERY other level of football. We're talking even down to the division 3 level, where UW-Whitwater (with non-scholarship athletes) have played several seasons of 15 games. This all boils down to money. They make so much money off the ridiculous bowl system - that they've let it essentially dictate their post season for decades now.
  21. Some tougher competition upcoming, so we'll see there. And yes, as someone mentioned above, they have to start the conference season earlier due to Delaney's ridiculous insistence on the tournament being at MSG, and thus, a week earlier than normal. That, coupled with the non-conference games they already had scheduled is going to make for a brutal stretch for the Badgers in early December.
  22. They can very easily track the number of tickets sold vs actual attendance - and they do. But all that matters is tickets sold. They scan every ticket that comes in, that certainly gets monitored and tracked.
  23. Went to all 3 games during the Fan Appreciation series at the end of the year. Wound up with a TON of scratch off tickets, all but ONE were for the same games. I have 9 that won tickets for either 4/16 vs Reds or 4/17 vs Reds. And I have ONE that won tickets to any of 4/19 vs Miami, 5/8 vs Indians and 5/29 vs Cards. Needless to say, I don't need 20 seats for the same set of games. Anyone happen to have a scratch off for those last 3 games that they want to trade? I'm willing to do a 2 for 1. Meaning you'll get double the seats. I know this is a long shot, but figured I'd ask anyways.
  24. I've thought of that for years, literally years. It almost makes too much sense. I'm sure they could but I don't think it's really that simple. First, where do you put it? I guess you'd have to put it on both tips of the ball. Second, They'd also need to be virtually weightless - uneven weight will change he flight of the ball, adding weight makes it harder to throw, etc. Even if they somehow did it, how do you quickly figure out where to spot it? Seems like it would take forever, and still not be very easy...what about plays with second or third efforts in short yardage? I agree that spotting of the ball is awful but I just don't know how they can feasibly do some sort of GPS - but there are certainly people smarter than me, maybe they'll figure something out some day. I also agree that Elliot play is dead wrong. Unless he holds the ball there until the whistle is blown or he's pulled back, he didn't deserve that spot, he pulls it back willingly on his own. That's pretty blatantly giving up the spot in any situation that isn't the goal line. This is extreme but would it really be any differebt than a guy who has the first down but on his own falls backwards (and is then touched) or falls out of bounds?? It's the exact same thing to me, player moves the ball back without force able contact in that direction, they get the worse spot.
  25. If Braun can play a passable first base (even if it's just some of the time against lefties when Thames is out or whatever), it's pretty hard to argue that it doesn't help the Brewers and Braun himself. In theory, he should stay healthier as 1B is certainly easier on the body than the outfield. It allows the Brewers to have a spot for Brinson, which will improve our OF defense, gets more speed in the lineup, etc.
