  1. Well, now the fun starts. Embrace the unknown. Embrace the roller coaster. Congrats to the Cubs and Counsell. I look forward to beating them annually. I am already cringing at the new round of rancor that will be hurled @Matthew Trueblood's way. At the same time...
  2. How cool would it be to be a coveted Free Agent? The world is your oyster. Couns gave quite a bit to the Brewers organization and it pays to remember the Brewers are his first and only managing gig. I would absolutely not begrudge him one iota if he wanted a new challenge; a new environment; etc. He knows the scope of making it work in another organization from his playing days. Exciting times for him and his family.Exciting opportunity for the Brewers regardless of how this ultimately shakes out. I want to once again throw my hat in the ring of Victor Estevez. He'll fit the mold of a retool/rebuild in real time. He has managed most of the young men in the system presently. Bi-lingual. Former player. Love his approach. My personal favorite dark horse candidate should Counsell indeed leave as is being reported.
  3. Well this just got weird. 😂
  4. - RHP Blake Holub has been assigned to the Biloxi Shuckers
  5. I respectfully disagree. (in that 2024 is critical for Areinamo) In terms of utility guys, Areinamo is a stud. He just is. Heady. Incredible defensively. Always a plus in the line up. Confidence is growing at the plate. Low A results followed. He'll only just turn 20 later this month. In terms of utility guys, 2024 is a big year for a guy like Eduardo Garcia. A guy who can no longer merely live as a prospect off his lofty reputation with little offensive consistency to back that up and multiple areas of concern at the dish. He'll turn 22 in mid summer. 2024 is a huge year for his career trajectory with the Brewers. As an aside, even younger than Jadher, Barrios will only turn 20 in April of 2024. Using recency bias and 23-year -old INF Ethan Murray as the barometer here, Brewers speaking - a player who struggled to put it all together (especially offensively) at High-A Wisconsin but who really showcased his full package of potential in Biloxi - this colors the current iteration of my own experiential observation and thinking.
  6. In all seriousness, and I say this completely peaceably, why is this hard to understand for baseball minds? - Brewers trade for two months of Canha and he clearly helps the squad. WIN - Mets pick up the vast majority of that tab. WIN - Brewers give up RHP Justin Jarvis Loss of Tenured Prospect WIN by Nature of MLB In Season Net Gain. - Brewers Gain RHP Blake Holub who will plug and play at Double-A Biloxi My point here is: Emotion leads certain fans to the tired story of "...Attanasio is so cheap and the Brewers will never win anything..." and, yet, they fail to simply recognize the forest for the trees. This is another example of a shrewd really good business deal giving the Brewers organization multiple bites of the apple. And, yes, the Brewers have salary and organizational budget restrictions. Holub may not work out. But, this process is perfectly sound and understandable.
  7. Thankfully, Clarke's power comes in games batting clean-up. He finished with a whimper BUT we all know what we're seeing happen since the second half of Biloxi's 2023 season began. It's only continued in the AFL.
  8. Tired: Penny Pinching Wired: Player Pinching
  9. Seven off the leaders after Rd 1. He did beat out the Cubbie Bears' Kevin Alcantara so we've got that going for Clarkesy...which is nice.
  10. I missed my lone chance to see Holub face the T-Rats when he was called up to Double-A Erie on June 6th. They played Game 1 of their 5 game series (game 6 was cancelled) that same day! 🥲 By every measure Holub made fantastic strides in 2023 and hit the ground running in Erie. It will be fun to watch him in 2024.
  11. The Surprise Saguaros keep on rolling beating the Salt River Rafters 5-2. They move to 17-10 overall and hold a healthy 3.0 G lead over second place Scottsdale. It would appear, with merely three 'regular season' AFL games remaining, either a single Surprise victory or a single Scottsdale loss ensures the Saguaros claim the number one seed in the brief AFL post season. I believe this would ensure they avoid the 'Play-In' game and would indeed earn their spot in the Championship game Saturday November 11th. Back to tonight's game, three Brewers made their marks in the victory: - 1B Wes Clarke was once again given clean-up duties finishing his evening with a 1-for-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K line. He is batting 0.299 with a 1.009 OPS. - LHP Adam Seminaris was fantastic in his sole seventh inning of relief work hurling 1.0 IP with 0 H. 0 BB, 0 R, 2 K to show for it. He lowered his season ERA to 4.15 and picked up his 2nd Hold in the process. - RHP Justin Yeager excelled in his eighth inning set-up duties tossing 1.0 IP with 0 H, 1 BB, 1 K, and 0 R allowed. He also picked up his 2nd Hold while continuing to lower his once unsightly ERA as he logs each successive outing. He is down to a 4.70 ERA - far removed from his debut 4 ER allowed in a single inning of work. A quick reminder: The Saguaros are off until Tuesday 11/7. Wes Clarke will be swinging the stick in tomorrow's Home Run Derby. Both Clarke and Eric Brown Jr. will be a part of Sunday's All Star Game.
  12. The Saguaros were smacked around a bit last night during an 11-2 loss to Glendale. Even with the loss, Surprise (15-10) maintained their 2.0 G lead atop the AFL standings. Amidst the thrashing, EBJ and Mendez (back in the line-up again) both fared well for themselves and the Brewers: - EBJ: 1-for-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 HR (his 1st of the AFL), and 1 K. He did commit his 5th error (throwing) and his second throwing error in his past two games manning shortstop, though we would be remiss if we did not point out he was also a part of two double plays. These were Brown's 13th and 14th rbi of his AFL season: - Mendez: 1-for-3, 1 K Trailing 9-2 in the 9th frame, LHP Justin King was summoned to the hill. He began his work with a strikeout. He then walked his next batter. The following batter reached on catcher's interference. And, after grabbing his second out via a fly out to right field, King suffered a bases clearing double. He managed to end any further threat with his second punch out of his sole inning of work. All told, his final line looked a respectable: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 R (1 ER), 2 K. I do believe Surprise's knock versus Mesa will be Live Streaming tonight. For those interested, check in HERE as 9:30 EST approaches. This should be a solid match-up as both the Saguaros and the Solar Sox are 7-3 over their last 10 tilts. Mesa, in particular, is winners of two straight.
  13. Surprise keeps rolling with another 'W' - 5-3 Over Scottsdale. - RHP Joseph Hernandez was given the opportunity to start and rewarded this show of faith with his best outing of this brief AFL season: 4 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 ER. He picked up the victory and now sports a flashy 1-0 overall mark despite the still unsightly 9.64 ERA on his season. THO, we give praise: we're back to single digits! - LHP Adam Seminaris put forth two innings of relief through the 6th and 7th frames: 2 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 2 R (1 ER). We certainly haven't seen repeat dominant performances off that early 7 K effort, but Seminaris continues to maintain effectiveness with a respectable 4.50 ERA. - EBJ manned shortstop and batted sixth in the line-up. He tallied an 0-for-1 line with 1 R and 2 BB. He also rung up his 4th error (throwing) of the season. - Wes Clarke batted clean up and finished with an 0-for-3 mark (1 R, 1 K, 1 BB). After the 0-for effort, he saw his OPS dip below 1.000 for the first time in quite some time. He sits at 0.999. - Mendez is yet again in a prolonged bench-riding period but if we see results like his last time in the line-up we won't care. It would seem, given his vastly younger age, Mendez is spending the majority of his time working on his craft with spot PT. Surprise moved to 15-9 overall and gained 1/2 G on idle Peoria - they are now 2.0 G ahead.
  14. What we might call "...an off night for the young men." On to the next!
  15. It looks as though it is just EBJ in the line up tonight as far as Brewers prospects are concerned. He'll be back manning 2B. Batting 6th in the line up. Clarke and Mendez will be bench players as of the first pitch.
  16. Yes indeed. He actually suffered through two freak injuries - one on a hit pitch to the head and then one on a bang-bang late inning play at 2B where he was upended by a sliding base runner and was shelved for an extended period of time.
  17. My feelings on Señor Black are quite well known within the confines of these virtual walls. Stud. Defensive unknowns. But, so much impact everywhere else it almost becomes irrelevant. BUT, all that pops out to me as I open another finely written @Smichaelis9piece is that hideous Shuckers jersey. Boy, that one is rough. 😅 Bless the players for playing through that unfortunate event. Come to think of it, with that look on Tyler's face I think he's aware of what he is wearing.🤭
  18. Yeah baby. The McMenamins Edgefield is pretty awesome within the greater pantheon of McMenamins. Loved going there in the summer. Fun gardens. Music. When I first moved to PDX, my now wife took me to a McMenamins in NE Portland (I think it was the Kennedy School ?) and I had spicy tater tots and a hard cider. It was my first very Portland moment. Regardless, McMenamins is a fantastic business model and having talked to the employees it appears they are treated quite well within the greater business. Glad you liked it!
  19. Gasser clearly did enough last season to merit a legitimate opportunity in 2024. That is the logical next step for his career and I have to think the Brewers know this. This is a big off season for him. What I've enjoyed to date, in addition to simply watching him pitch and mature on the mound, is his availability. Let's hope he continues to make those small adjustments to his arsenal, continues developing the lesser developed offerings, and remains a steadfast presence in the pitching stables. I'm excited to see how his stuff plays at the MLB level!
  20. I entirely get it. I was mainly trying (likely feebly) to speak to many feeeeewings about Burnes, Williams, Couns potentially leaving etc. But, alas, tis the nature of the Brewers organization as it is structured and funded. I have no real gripes about it, honestly. and given my core fascination is from the Minor League side of things with the Brewers being my cherry on top, it will certainly be fascinating to see how this all plays out. I have a tremendous amount of faith in Matt Arnold seeing him cook this last season. I think we have the right Captain to steer this ship through possibly choppy waters.
  21. It's a fine idea and makes plenty of sense given the proverbial state of affairs with the Brew Crew. But...I just want to use a gif.
  22. That was a nice wrap-up of where we are in the Great Mudcats Stadium Hunt. It would appear the aim is to play in Wilson by 2026 but because there is nothing binding as of yet both Zebulon and Wilson are legally permitted to each continue submitting offers. Given Five Counties Stadium remains in non-compliance with MLB's extensive criteria for acceptable stadiums, and given no major renovations to said stadium have been approved by County Commissioners, it would certainly appear the writing is on the wall that it is just a matter of time for the Wilson project to move forward. And, of course, anything can happen.
  23. OR, he just wants a new opportunity; a new organization; and the familiar face of an old friend and colleague makes the thought exercise and opportunity all the more appealing. It's a challenge first and foremost by my eyes and a massively bigger spending budget to meet the post season rigors. Getting paid more handsomely and tilting the balance is a flower in the bouquet. I personally think it is something more along the lines of this. And, who really knows? And, I've mentioned this in a couple other threads on this forum: If Counsell does indeed choose by his own volition to go to another organization - the Mets or elsewhere for whatever litany of reasons he's certainly earned the right - should the Brewers go internal they should absolutely seriously consider Victor Estévez. He is absolutely fantastic and aggressive in all the right ways. He was a former MLB player (Diamondbacks) so he knows the grind. He's bi-lingual. He has worked the DSL and the Winter Leagues. He took Carolina to the post-season in just his second year leading that club after the longest drought in all the Minor Leagues. I absolutely love him. He's a prized jewel by my obsessive Minor League watching eyes. The organization would be silly to not, in the very least, involve him in the interviewing process.
  24. The thing with Dame is that FT gravity doesn't leave in the post season. AND, what's even more sublime: as he's ages his FT % in the post season has gotten to absurd levels. His past two playoff appearances, at a clip of over 8 FT's/ Game he is hitting at an over 90% clip. Absurd. Bananas.
