This belongs here. You'll see a couple quick Logan Henderson highlights at the front touching on what I indicate above: heater and a sprinkled and effective change-up. You won't see his breaking ball which is anywhere but over the plate - dust off that rust, young man and try again next outing! You'll also see LHP Pablo Garabito's classic and effective location work. He is low velocity but crafty. Lots of off-speed stuff.

The velocity was definitely still there - which is obviously encouraging. As was his mound presence - ie he looked healthy and fluid on the mound moving with purpose and the aggression you want from somebody in high leverage scenarios. Sal Frelick continued his blistering Triple-A on-base pace - a true sight to behold - while Nashville evened things up on the road in Jacksonville. Wisconsin barely mustered any offensive threats, unfortunately, wasting some truly fine pitching efforts. Biloxi ran into an all too familiar result in Montgomery while Carolina managed to work around another vintage 2022 Figueroa performance (who, according to manager Victor Estevez, is working through a finger issue of some form or another). Oh, and hey, both DSL Brewers squads notched victories. Let's check in on the Farm! Transactions: INF Alberis Ferrer was re-instated from Carolina's 7-Day IL RHP Jason Alexander was optioned to the Nashville Sounds by the Milwaukee Brewers RHP Trevor Kelley was recalled by the Milwaukee Brewers from the Nashville Sounds Stop the presses! We have a first MLB hit for catching prospect and 2022 Nashville Sound, Mario Feliciano: That's the stuff right there. May those knocks rain forth from here, young stud! And, lastly, on an evening with few if any highlights amongst the affiliated twitter accounts, let me offer an extremely enticing look at a young arm in the ACL in one RHP Anthony Perez. His numbers, to date, haven't met what I'm seeing here: a nasty two-seamer with an equally nasty breaking ball. This will certainly play if he can harness this filthy stuff. Movement is king and there is plenty in this clip. Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 6, Jacksonville (Marlins) 2 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds' site, game details, please visit and review: Sounds Even Series with Comeback Win - Josh Lindbolm Delivers Quality Start and Sal Frelick Delivers Four Hits in Win In just his fourth career outing versus the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, RHP Josh Lindbolm was looking to build off his previous outing at home versus Gwinnett. Having scuffled quite often in the last month, it was a sight for sore eyes to see Lindbolm toss a season-high 9 K while holding the Stripers to a mere 2 H and 2 BB in his last outing in Nashville. That was vintage AAAA Josh Linbolm stuff right there - when he's 'on', any and every Triple-A ball club struggles to find their footing in the batters box. The Sounds were looking to even the series at 1-1. All told, Lindbolm built atop his last outing and certainly stacked success. He worked around a solo shot and a second run aided by a ball lost in the lights in deep right field that fell mere feet from Joey Wiemer's waving arms. Let's take a quick look at some key takeaways. Three Quick Strikes: 1) I've mentioned this a couple times in the past week or so since OF Esteury Ruiz has been on the Nashville Sounds roster: the art of the bunt single. I don't know when the Brewers have had a weapon like this in the system. I really don't. I've now seen three absolutely perfect bunt singles down the third base line in the past two weeks. This doesn't even get into the ability to sacrifice or move runners or suicide squeeze - these have simply been surprise singles. He does it with absolute skill and talent. I've typically been agnostic to the art of bunting because, frankly, most baseball players simply can't do it in the modern game. Well, this is a legitimate weapon in Ruiz's tool kit. In the top of the sixth inning, with Frelick having just reached on a walk (his third consecutive time reaching first base), Ruiz laid down an absolutely primo bunt down the third base line. Suddenly you had ridiculously dangerous speed on first and second base with nobody out. This is a notable development within the system. This is a weapon. 2) Speaking of Frelick, my goodness what a run this young stud is on. He is evolving, before our very eyes, into an absolutely dangerous lead-off weapon. In five trips tonight, he reached base all five times - three infield singles included in this buffet. If you follow his on-base capacities with the dangerous Esteury Ruiz, that's quite simply two young stallions looking to wreak havoc on the base paths. After his output this evening, he saw his batting average rise to 0.440 in Triple-A with a 1.065 OPS. Think about that. No, really, think about that. Frelick has gotten better with every promotion and has now achieved his literal best output in Triple-A. The sky is the limit with this young man and, sheesh, what a pleasure to witness. What's crazy about this current Frelick production is it is somehow pushing Garret Mitchell's fantastic Triple-A output onto the back burner. That's saying something. Go ahead, take a look at Mitchell's output to date in Nashville. Really. The future is briiiiight. 3) This is your RHP Trevor Rosenthal update: this was his first live action since August 29th of 2020, mind you. He came up to pitch the seventh frame for the Sounds and their 5-2 lead. Rosenthal came on throwing lasers. First batter? Three pitches. Three strikes. Out. Second batter? Three outside balls - including an off-speed. Two consecutive 98 mph heaters blown by the hitter. After several foul balls, Rosenthal skies a fastball to the back-stop. Hey if you're going to walk the batter? Give him a FREE pass?. At this point, he was throwing 95-99 routinely. Facing his third batter, he jumped up to an 0-2 count. Then a 1-2 count. And, he got a well-hit double-play ground out to INF Brice Turang (playing second base yet again tonight - with these new promotions, his CF days are most likely over in Nashville) and escaped unscathed. Outing numero uno: success. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Montgomery (Rays) 4, Biloxi 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers' site, game details, please visit and review: Biscuits Take Down Shuckers 4-1 - Biscuits Take Down Shuckers 4-1 LHP Brandon Knarr had struggled mightily over his past five outings and that trend certainly continued in the first inning tonight. He did manage to limit the damage to two runs but he also gave up three hits and walked a batter in the process. If you consider over the past 27 2/3 IP (coming into tonight), Knarr had allowed 35 H, 9 BB, and 18 ER, it was suddenly starting to turn into a late-season troubling trend. We all know the challenges of maintaining pitching dominance - especially as a young arm with upside in a new League. So, how did Knarr fare overall this evening in Montgomery? Better. He certainly fared much better. Let's celebrate a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough as the Shuckers bats were relatively silent for the most part and the team lost yet again in Montgomery. Overall, the Shuckers moved five games back of the first place Biscuits while Knarr moved to 1-6 with a 4.38 ERA in Double-A. Three Quick Strikes: 1) It took until the top of the ninth frame for the Shuckers to grab an XBH, but, who other than recently promoted red-hot Zavier Warren to accomplish this feat? Warren absolutely ripped a double to the wall in deep left center and nearly missed his first Double-A home run by a matter of 5-10 feet. That was the fifth hit, and as mentioned the first of an extra base kind, of the Shuckers evening and they were trailing 4-1 at the time. With Cam Devanney heading to the plate, there suddenly was a wee bit of drama in Montgomery. Oh, and the always-dangerous Cam Devanney walked. There were suddenly men on first and second base with zero outs. Drama indeed. 2) Well, just like that, Felix Valerio roped yet another extremely well-hit ball...into the sprinting outstretched glove of OF Kameron Misner in Montgomery's far right field warning track dirt. It was a heck of a run down by Misner and Zavier Warren was unfortunately picked off second base - a potential rally was suddenly squashed by a play that screamed "Well, sometimes, that's just baseball!" In the past month, I would park a flag on the hill of: "There isn't another player in the system that makes as good of contact as Felix Valerio with as little results to back it up." I've seen this young man punish so many balls in the past two weeks and they simply went directly into the mitt of opposing fielders. The hits have to fall...right? Right?!? 3) In a game where not all that much of significance happened in the Biloxi line-up, it is worth noting RHP Arnaldo Hernandez pitched a clean and crucial inning with a scoreless 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K sixth frame. I touched on it last week: Hernandez has struggled quite often since his IL return, but, he is certainly capable of clean innings. The ERA is bloated at present, but, let's hope that is simply a by-product of a rough stretch. Here's hoping the tides have turned. ? Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Cedar Rapids (Twins) 2, Wisconsin 1 Box Score/Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers' site, game details, please visit and review: Cedar Rapids Outduels Wisconsin - Kernels Beat Rattlers 2-1 RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez took his 1-0 record and 0.90 ERA into the second game of the current six-game road series in Cedar Rapids. In his third start at High-A, Rodriguez was hoping to bring his deft mix of off-speed breaking pitches with tailing heat to even the series with the Kernels at 1-1. Let me just say this: he did not disappoint. This young hurler is an absolute stud. For a spry 20-year-old arm, he simply pitches well beyond his years. I already find myself saying: "He's already got the full Lindbolm aresenal in his tool kit. Where does he go from here?" This is the highest of compliments. Tune in to watch this young man work his magic. Three Quick Strikes: 1) I don't normally do something like this - actually, I never have...which should say something. When an announcer causes me to turn the sound off entirely and, honestly, consider not even watching the game - well, I'll say a brief something. I don't know who the Cedar Rapids home announcer is on the MiLB.TV apparatus and I'm not going to flat call him out by name here, but, a general heads up to all you committed and talented announcers: I absolutely appreciate it beyond measure when you actually know who your opponents are. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate it when you know who is actually at each base and who is actually on the base paths. I appreciate it when you can match a name to a face and to a position. I appreciate it when you add all that nuanced flavor to the Minor League telecasts. Please, keep studying up and making each and every game a true joy to watch. We are absolutely blessed in the Brewers organization - every affiliate level is filled with broadcasting talent in spades. Oh, right, there was a game. I watched quite a few innings...sadly, with the sound muted. 2) Game recognizes game. If I'm going to question Jackson Chourio in center field in yesterday's report, I'm certainly going to bring up his fantastic diving stop in dead center on a weak flare grabbing the second out in the bottom of the fifth frame. I had been waiting to see if this talented young man could lay out. Let me tell you: he absolutely can. He had a fantastic jump - step one. He then made the full on diving effort. He made the clean grab. It was a key out to prevent a base runner clinging to a 1-0 lead. You absolutely love to see it. For those of you with MiLB.TV, move your dials to 2:13:04 HERE on your replays. You will not be disappointed - this was a truly impressive grab. Somehow, we have no highlight of this catch - road game and all. You'll actually hear the dramatic pause by the Kernels announcer: he didn't even know Chourio was playing center field. Trust me. Unbelievable. 3) This game came down to one inning and one inning alone. Rodriguez was absolutely cruising...until he wasn't. He gave up a lead-off single in the bottom-half of the sixth inning. But, lo and behold, Darrien Miller threw to second base clearly grabbing the runner for the first out. A fist pump was executed in due fashion. Shortly thereafter, Rodriguez put two men aboard with consecutive full-count walks. RHP, and previously red hot, Robbie Baker (having retired 19 consecutive batters) was brought on to face a lefty. He gave up the tying single on a well-hit dug out ball to center field. An extremely wild pitch, high and inside, made it to the backstop advancing runners to second and third base. And, after deftly striking a batter out for the second out...Baker balked in the winning run. One word suffices here, and one word only: Ouch! Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Carolina 6, Fayetteville (Astros) 5 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats' site, game details, please visit and review: Bullpen Dominates in 6-5 Carolina Victory - Carolina Scored Four Runs with Combo of Bases Loaded Walks and Hit by Pitches in their 6-5 Home Win Coming into tonight's contest, the Mudcats were sitting 5 1/2 games back of the second-half divisional leading Fredericksburg Nats (and their massive +67 run differential - yowza). RHP Jeferson Figueroa took the mound to start things off and he worked around a walk and a stolen base to strike out two batters on change-ups while striking out his last right-handed batter, after his 22nd pitch of the inning, on a 93 mph heater just outside the home plate stripe. A fine inning overall despite the elevated pitch count - Figueroa is known to struggle with location. Case and point, with the bases juiced and a 1-2 count, he offered up too much plate on a change-up here: Notice, the bases were juiced. There were no outs. When things fall apart for Figeuroa, they tend to fall apart like this - 2 IP, 4 H, 3 BB, 4 K, 5 ER on his evening. What has to be frustrating for the young hurler is he truly has a solid and unpredictable change-up pitch he can drop in on a dime. It's been absolutely up-and-down (mostly down) in 2022. He'll go yet another game with not a single mark in the 'W' column (still 0-7 in 2022). Lastly, please do check in on the post-game conversation between Mudcats manager, Victor Estevez, and Mudcats announcer Greg Young: Three Quick Strikes: 1) Seeing a runner reach second base in both the first and second innings was probably not all that surprising for Figueroa who has grown accustomed to base runners in 2022. However, INF's Jadher Areinamo and Eric Brown Jr. had no intentions of allowing the runners to score. Both young men made stellar diving stops and accurate darts to first to throw runners out and help their team escape unscathed. It's not often you see such stellar work at the Low-A level - let alone any level. These were web gems in the fullest sense of the phrase. Unfortunately, there are no highlights to share with you to showcase this incredible glove work. If they rear their heads tomorrow, I will share in the comments below. 2) The Mudcats presser speaks of the bullpen. Figueroa and the Mudcats team at large have much to thank for the continued fantastic bullpen work from RHP Miguel Guerrero. All told, Guerrero was solid once again: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 0 ER, 4 K. His scoreless work in the crucial early and middle innings paved the way RHP Michele Vassalotti's three inning save - the sixth save of his 2022 season. Without these two, tonight's contest may have turned south. 3) He gets a tag and a nod above, but it's worth highlighting here: INF Jadher Areinamo showcased why he's such an interesting prospect tonight. His diving stab and throw from well beyond third base to first in the early going was as web gem as it gets. To follow that work up with two singles and two RBI's? The icing on the cake. Do not sleep on this young man. He's a riser - you probably just don't know it yet. DSL Brewers #1 6, DSL Twins 4 Box Score / Game Log The DSL Brewers Uno got a much needed win versus the Twins and they did it in classic DSL fashion - consecutive wild pitches to take the two-run lead and, ultimately, the ball game. That's that vintage DSL stuff. A game ball will have to go to INF/OF Angel Pereira who led-off for the Brewers Uno. He managed to hit a single and get plunked twice (ouch!) while ultimately scoring three runs in the process. INF Luis Watter sat in the five-hole and managed a 2-for-3 afternoon - 1 2B (his fourth of the year), 1 BB, 1 K, 1 RBI. Watter did scuffle some in the filed with two errors - one apiece fielding and throwing from the hot corner - his 10th errors of the summer. INF Richard Rojas, batting sixth and playing second base, hit 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and 2 K. Wild pitches aside, the Brewers Uno did put the pressure on in solid fashion - a lead-off HBP, a single, then a run-scoring single - in the seventh inning. That tying single was hit to right field by consistently performing 1B/C/DH Edgardo Ordonez - 1-for-4 on the day with the timely RBI (0.292 BA / 0.811 OPS / 96 AB in 2022). He managed to plate OF Luis Lara who was sent on as a pinch runner. The DSL Brewers 1 moved to 20-34 on their season. DSL Brewers #2 5, DSL D-Backs Red 4 (completion of the 7/27 postponed game) Box Score / Game Log The DSL Brewers Dos came into this re-start contest looking to put pressure on the D-Backs Rojo and they managed to do so with six stolen bases on the day - 2 apiece for OF's Reminton Batista and Mendy Ferreira. Batista, interestingly, took three free passes on the day and plated two runs in a 0-for-0 line anomaly. The D-Backs managed to pull within one run in the top of the sixth (of a seven-inning affair) on a throwing error by INF Demetrio Nadal and a sac fly to center field. But, 21-year-old RHP Roman Perez was up to the task in closing this one out: 1 1/3 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 S. This was Perez's first save of his 2022 season. The DSL Brewers #2 move to 26-27 overall - nine games back of San Pedro divisional leaders Texas Rangers Blue. We will see the fast-working workhouse RHP Dylan File on the hill for Nashville tomorrow as they look to claim a 2-1 series lead in Jacksonville. RHP Victor Castaneda will look to build on his recent successes and re-claim his status as the Biloxi Ace - the Shuckers are knotted at 1-1 in Montgomery. RHP Stiven Cruz will debut in Cedar Rapids for the T-Rats as they attempt to claw their way back into their ongoing road series - they currently trail 0-2 after tonight's tough loss. The Mudcats have yet to name a starter so stay tuned. And, we'll see a full slate of DSL and ACL games. That's eight total games across all levels. Watching the dribbler throw on a grounder into CF last night - a play in which Chourio simply didn’t have a chance - got me revisiting the thoughts. I would offer, if I were to rank the defensive prowess of these top prospects I would go: Wiemer Mitchell Frelick Chourio Ruiz And, like I was saying in the Game Thread: Chourio is still just a spry 18 years old. If that hit tool continues to develop, you probably don’t care all that much as an organization but, at present, speaking realistically and outside the ongoing (deserved) hype: I’m unconvinced of his true position.

Carolina was the Brewers lone full-season affiliate starting a home series - Wisconsin, Biloxi, and Nashville all took to the road. Results were mixed. The DSL Brewers 1 continued their recent skid of losing while the DSL Brewers 2 managed a classic DSL victory against all odds. Both ACL teams managed to pull out victories - one in dominant fashion and one on a walk-off ninth inning blast - as recent draftees and young prospects continue to make their mark. Let's get to the reports! Transactions: Lots of exciting movement and action today - promotions, first placements, and rehabs RHP Logan Henderson was officially assigned to Low-A Carolina from High-A Wisconsin. This is actually a promotion (he had been successfully rehabbing in the ACL) into his first full-time assignment in the organization RHP Stiven Cruz has been promoted from Low-A Carolina to High-A Wisconsin 3B Zavier Warren has been promoted to Double-A Biloxi from High-A Wisconsin RHP Yujanyer Herrera becomes the Mudcats youngest pitcher - he's been promoted to Low-A Carolina from the ACL Brewers Blue. RHP Trevor Rosenthal and C Omar Narvaez were sent on rehab assignments to Triple-A Nashville C Alex Jackson was retroactively placed on the 7-Day IL by the Nashville Sounds (retroactive to August 14th) RHP Shane Smith was sent on a rehab assignment to the ACL Brewers Gold - this is actually Smith's first official action for the Brewers organization since his signing in 2021 1B Ernesto Martinez (who had been rehabbing in the ACL) has been activated from the 60-Day IL by the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers INF Ashton McGee has been retroactively placed (August 14th) on the 7-Day IL 1B/3B Tyler White was traded by the Brewers from the Nashville Sounds to the Atlanta Braves And, real quickly, we have some more publicity for two of the Brewers fastest rising prospects in OF Sal Frelick and OF Jackson Chourio: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Jacksonville (Marlins) 12, Nashville 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Sounds' site, game details, please visit and review: Sounds Thumped in Jacksonville - Nashville Loses Third Straight - Falls to 66-45 The Sounds took to the road on Tuesday to start their 13 day and 12 game road trip in Jacksonville. Brewers RHP Adrian Houser was looking to execute in what was earlier rumored to be his last rehab start. After his evening scuffling on the mound, he may want some more work. He struggled through the first couple innings - including three runs across in the first - where his worst enemy was the free pass. I don't know what it is in 2022, but Houser certainly isn't his sharpest self. Two unearned runs (in five total) doesn't really atone for five hits and three free passes in a mere 3 1/3 IP. Hopefully, he turns it around. Three Quick Strikes: 1) It was a "Hey Lipka, warm up the Jets!" kind of night in Jacksonville. The recently re-acquired outfielder tossed a 1 H, 1 HR, 1 ER ninth inning to close this ugly evening out for the Sounds. When the position players take the hill, it's rarely a good thing. Entertaining for the winning crowd? Sure. But, never an exciting affair for the losing team. Tonight, the Sounds saw their teammate literally take one for the team. 2) All was not lost offensively, despite the one run crossing home plate. The Sounds still managed nine hits on the evening - though, eight of these were singles. OF Garrett Mitchell continued his surge at the plate with a 2-for-4 evening including his second double in Triple-A (and the lone Sounds XBH). Omar Narvaez saw a successful rehab outing with a 2-for-4 evening batting second. And, 3B Weston Wilson hit 2-for-4 with the lone Sounds RBI. 3) Is it time to 'worry' about LHP Andy Otero? I don't know. What I can tell you is in seven outings covering July and August (13 IP) he has surrendered 20 H, 4 BB, 8 ER, with a mere 6 K. That type of output isn't going to bode well as the difficulty increases if he moves up for a stab at Major League hitters over time. Otero lacks any type of top-end velocity - he relies on location and effectively mixing his off-speed arsenal with a rising low-velocity heater. There is quite a bit to prove to himself, the Brewers, and other clubs as he looks to close out this 2022 season. Otero has had periods of success this season no doubt, but there are question marks abound. He'll be a Minor League FA after the season ends. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 5, Montgomery (Rays) 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers' site, game details, please visit and review: Steady Offense and Shutdown Bullpen Guides Shuckers to 5-3 Win - Warren Collects First Double-A Hit, RBI Coming into this Montgomery series (in Montgomery), the Shuckers were 2-16 at Montgomery over their past 18 knocks. Ummmm, that's not good. Coming into this game, the Biscuits hadn't lost a full nine-inning tilt in the month of August. The Shuckers were outhit tonight 10-8, but they weren't outdone. We'll thank the bullpen for their combined 5 1/3 IP, 6 H, 0 BB, 5 K (should have been 6 - cough), 1 R. This was a good one. Dare I say it: the Shuckers are playing fine baseball of late. I already want to take it back. Gulp. Three Quick Strikes: 1) I talked about INF/OF Felix Valerio during my last report and, lo and behold, he smacked a two-run jack tonight. You can only go so long making the kind of contact he's been making before results start to rear their head. I again encourage deviating from box score gleaning and trusting what I see: he's roping balls. He's struck out a mere four times to three walks in August. The results will come. This contact has been regular of late - the results simply have not. It's that simple: 2) He may be in Double-A, but let's not pretend RHP Cam Robinson isn't lights out still. It doesn't matter if the home plate umpire blows a clear third strike call on his lead-off batter (and, boy, was it a dead middle whiff from back behind the catcher - yikes). He'll stab a hard hit ground for out number one. No matter if a broken bat flare is plopped between Valerio and Whitley into right field. Robinson will hunker down and induce the game-ending double play ball to newly christened 1B all-star, Zavier Warren. Robinson sealed the deal and merely the third Shuckers win in Montgomery over the past 19 games. They moved within four games of the first place Biscuits. After receiving Southern League Player of the Week honors, he backed that up with a 2-for-4 night, 2 R, 2 SB, and an OF assist. It's hard to toot a horn loud enough for the work we're seeing from CF Corey Ray, INF Andruw Monasterio, and, now, OF Garrett Whitley in Biloxi. The oft-used phrasing 'consummate professionals' comes to mind. Mr. Whitely, I see you and I salute you. I wish you continued excellence. It's been a true joy to witness. Three Quick Strikes: 1) Here's a possibly controversial take: OF Jackson Chourio is absolutely incredible but I have a difficult time believing his future is in center field. When we have speedsters like Sal Frelick, Garrett Mitchell, Esteury Ruiz, and Joey Wiemer currently slotted above the young stud, and I see what I consistently see when the ball leaves his young arm, I'm left wondering if he isn't misplaced at present. The hit tool is obviously electric - I would never question this. But, the speed, though it's good, isn't otherworldly and the arm is, honestly, more akin to a second baseman's arm. That's my take. Change my mind. 2) RHP Tyler Gillies looks like a different pitcher in the late 2022 season. How about three strikeouts in his first inning - three dazzling K's mind you. He's seen limited time in 2022 coming off his cancer treatments, but, folks, he's getting stronger and more impactful. His fastball and leg kick have a nice marriage and he is mixing in some nice off-speed stuff. I'm looking for even better things to close out his 2022 comeback season. He's moving further and further away from a feel good story into a legitimate bullpen piece. The two-run home run jack aside, I'm keeping with these sentiments. It was a nice swing on a slightly hung inside breaking ball to a 2022 first rounder and potent lefty. He finished with 5 K in 2 IP. That's wonderful work - the home run jack aside. You be the judge: 3) The T-Rats staff and tantalizing catching prospect Jeferson Quero allowed six successful stolen bases on the evening. That was a 6-for-6 effort overall. Having seen Quero throw runners out quite consistently before tonight, I honestly give the Kernels massive credit for incredible timing - on both their get-offs and the pitch selection. There was very little opportunity for Quero though a couple of the attempts were quite close. Let's see how this dust settles through the rest of the series. Regardless of the how and why, this isn't a night Quero will consider a feather in his illustrious defensive cap. I eagerly tuned in to view RHP Logan Henderson's first start at Low-A Carolina. He worked around an opposite field rope to the right field wall and a wild pitch in the first inning, but he ultimately finished with the single knock and 2 K - he never felt remotely threatened. He then surrendered a broken bat flare to shallow right center field in the second inning, but saw the threat end when Hedbert Perez laid out and made a nice catch in right field. The breaking balls were completely wild tonight - they were way outside and high or, well, in the dirt. It was simply one of those evenings. However, the fastball was dialed and the change-up was effective. All in all, this was a very successful first outing for the young man and something we should be excited about. I'll continue to tune in and monitor his progress. Three Quick Strikes: 1) Jace Avina hitting at Five County? We call it 'Choice'. He must love his new home ballpark. He came in to tonight's contest hitting a ripe 0.444 at Five County. Well, through two innings that average went UP. He roped a double over the third baseman in the first inning and followed with an absolutely crushed grand slam over the wall in deep right center. Whewwww. It was a sight to behold. He was dialed in and swinging freely. Those are not short walls in Five County whatsoever, mind you. 2) In a recent insightful article by our very own @Mass Haas, HERE, we see young catcher Jose Sibrian is up for Minor League free agency after the 2022 season. Well, if his recent run of play is any indication I can near guarantee you the Brewers brass want to keep this young man in the catching stable. He's been one of, in not the, hottest hitters on the young and talented Mudcats roster of late. If we consider August as a whole - 0.304 BA, 0.838 OPS entering tonight's contest before he ripped a double to deep right center - one sees what I see: this is a very talented young catcher. The Brewers garner a lot of attention for their acquisitions of middle infield and center field prospects. I'm here to tell you: I challenge anyone to name an organization with more catching depth - especially considering the additions after the 2022 draft. 3) LHP Pablo Garabitos doesn't wow you with velocity - he is a finesse pitcher by every measure. But, he certainly impresses with his mix and his efficacy. After another scoreless and clean multiple-inning outing (5 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 6 K), Garabitos grabbed the win and saw his 2022 record move to 4-0. He has pushed an already impressive August into promotional consideration status: 16K:2BB after tonight. 15 2/3 IP over four outings, 12 H, 2 BB, 16 K, 2 ER. That's really fine relief work at Low-A. This builds on an already impressive 2022 resume overall. Let's hope he continues to shine as a workhorse out of the pen. He completes his evening (1-for-2, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 HR) with a one out, 0-2 count, ninth inning walk-off blast to left center field giving the Gold the 'W'. Electric. 2021 mid-summer signee and Wake Forest alum, RHP Shane Smith, got his first action for the Brewers with a clean opening frame while shaking off some rust - 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K. Smith was followed by continually dominant 2022 11th Rd draftee (Eastern Michigan), RHP Cameron Wagoner, and his 3 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K of work. Wagoner is definitely one to notice in the early going. INF Gregory Barrios continued his run of offensive output going 2-for-3 with 1 R and 1 RBI. Over his last three contests, Barrios is a combined 6-for-11 with a double. ACL Brewers Blue 10, ACL Athletics 4 Box Score / Game Log This one was over early when the ACL Brewers Blue put up a seven-spot in the top of the first. That's the kind of run support we can all get behind. Offensive game balls go to 2022 draftee 1B/C Tayden Hall (2-for-5, 2R), 18-year-old Venezuelan C Jason Ollarve (3-for-5, 1 R, 3 RBI, 2 K), and 2B Jamal Zalm (2-for-4, 1 R, 3 RBI, 2 K, 1 3B). None the less, the no-hitter was broken up but the result certainly didn't change. The Brewers Uno did manage to pull within 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch and, well, they graciously gave back a five-spot in the final seventh frame. Those runs were charged to 18-year-old RHP Leonardo Rivera who had actually allowed a mere three earned runs in his past five outings. The young men will want to quickly move on from this one. DSL Tigers 5, DSL Brewers #1 2 Box Score / Game Log After weeks of admirably fighting to stay 8-10 games under 0.500, it would appear the Brewers Uno are seeing things slip away as of late. In the second game of their day, the Brewers Uno fell yet again to the Tigers. The closest the youngsters would come is when they plated a run in the top of the fourth inning to pull within 2-1 when a Jose Pena sac fly to left field plated Jhonny Severino. Pena later knocked in the second and final run on a ground out. Ultimately, the Uno wound up 0-for-8 with RISP and were out-hit 11-4. Going 0-for-3 on his day with a walk, OF Luis Lara saw his OPS dip below 0.700 to 0.698 as his ongoing slump continued. DSL Brewers #2 6, DSL Cubs Red 3 Box Score / Game Log Hey, it's a DSL Brewers victory - they've been in short supply of late. Let's give kudos where they're due: wild pitches, walks, errors and balks...oh my! In a classic DSL result, the DSL Brewers went 0-for-13 with RISP and hit zero long balls. But, they were the recipients of sloppy Cubs play and ultimately left the contest with a 'W'. Thanks for showcasing this list, Jim. It's nice to see everyone all at once. I sincerely wonder if they don't prioritize signing Andruw Monasterio as 'left side of the infield insurance' given what he is showcasing in Biloxi - he's been incredible since Day 1 down yonder. I think with Erceg's ongoing improvements and ability to bounce back effectively from rough outings - with a known emphasis on growth versus results this year - I would have to think there's a priority there. He has legitimate 7th-9th inning stuff in that arsenal. I would love to see Big Jon Singleton back given how solid he as defensively in addition to his on base prowess and power pop. He loves the food in Nashville and the atmosphere but one might gather he'd look to try an latch on West Coast way given his gym is out West. Regardless, I've enjoyed watching all of these players in 2022 and there are many worthy Minor League prospects here. It will be very interesting to see what the players and the organization plan on doing. It was an incredibly productive and impactful ML FA signing period in late 2021. We'll have to keep our eyes and ears open for any developments.

Given Josh Lindbolm's cagey start his last outing, it's clear Nashville has two high-quality AAAA arms who are helping the team stay in that first place picture in a tightening race for a first place finish.

Officially it became a ten-game ride as a Dominican League game which had previously been rained out was suspended midgame on the re-try. We did see two postponed make-ups played in back-end seven-inning knocks to complete doubleheaders in Carolina and Nashville. Also included tonight was a partridge in a pear tree. Thankfully, we did see a vintage AAAA Josh Lindbolm performance tonight - much needed after a period of up-and-down play. Where has this type of outing been for the savvy vet? 5 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, 9 K. My word, that's a vintage performance. Three Quick Strikes: 1) In another rehab start for RHP Adrian Houser he coasted through the first five outs. Then he rubbed against a strange and suddenly very tight strike zone leading to a full count walk (personally, I felt he had struck the batter out twice) followed by a four-pitch walk. All told, I think you'd have to say Houser and the Brewers are quite happy with his second rehab start: 3 IP (a planned three innings), 0 H, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 R. 2) RHP Peter Strzelecki remains definitively one of my favorite relievers in the stacked Nashville bullpen. I don't quite understand why he didn't stick with the club up North, but, frankly it's my gain as Strzelecki continues to stack successes for Nashville. Tonight was certainly no different as he mowed them down in his single inning pitched: 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K. I continue to love the size, strength, velocity, and movement. This is a MLB pitcher. In my humble opinion, it's simply a matter of time before he becomes a mainstay. 3) I could talk about OF Esteury Ruiz's incredible drag bunt skills - folks, he's truly a wonderful bunter...I'm nostalgic for the lost art - but, instead, I'm going to go back to the lecture circuit and remind people how utterly wonderful INF Brice Turang has been in 2022. Firstly, pay no attention to the throwing error tonight - my take is the throw was possibly off, sure, but so was Weston Wilson's approach to second base. Wilson has to get to that bag with more urgency as Turang was fielding a ball running toward third and his only play was back across his body to second base. We know Turang struggled in June. However, whereas Wiemer has struggled and pretty much stayed struggling (hats off to the double tonight are due!), Turang has come back in July and August with a fury easily outpacing his already solid April and May. He hit his second long ball in two nights with the same smooth and easy swing he has fine-tuned in 2022. The power stroke is truly just forming. He is 22 years old. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Rocket City (Angels) 3, Biloxi 1 Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers' site, game details, please visit and review: Shuckers Held to Trio of Hits in 3-1 Defeat - Dillard Sets Franchise Record with 68th Walk With two one-run games - a win for each ball club to start the home series - the Shuckers were looking to take a 2-1 series lead with newly acquired prospect, and potential Ace, LHP Robert Gasser taking the mound. Gasser features a nasty whip slider, a splitter, a high-spin heater, and a change-up in his current arsenal. Coming off an extremely effective outing his first time out, the Shuckers were hoping to ride his arm while getting some runs across tonight. Unfortunately, that didn't happen as their sole tying run was plated in the bottom-half of the first inning. The Shuckers had other chances but simply couldn't get the key hit. It is worth noting, my self-proclaimed 2022 MIP Brewers Minor League candidate, INF Cam Devanney, knocked in the game-tying run with a rope double to the left field warning track. This moved Devanney into a Southern League tie for the fifth most two-baggers in the League - 23 total on his season. Three Quick Strikes: 1) Trusting the process regardless of the results is a real thing. This bodes very very true right now for one Felix Valerio. This is now two consecutive nights where he has absolutely roped multiple balls and they were simply right at people in the outfield. I continue to have faith in this young man's bat regardless of what his numbers say - I've seen Valerio play enough to confidently proclaim I know he can hit the heck out of a baseball. The results will come in time. Tonight he finishes 0-for4 but they were four well-hit barreled balls that went to the wrong areas of the field. 2) LHP Robert Gasser definitely lacked his best stuff early tossing 32 pitches across the dish in inning number one. However, he merely allowed a single run and struck out two while ending the frame with a weakly hit dribbler to Valerio. He shut things down thereafter only allowing a single base runner through his four total innings of work. All told he just crested 60 pitches and was pulled for none other than struggling RHP and 2021 Minor League FA signee Arnaldo Hernandez. I don't know if this was planned or needed given the low pitch count, but, unfortunately, it didn't work out in favor of the Shuckers. 3) Speaking of Hernandez, the struggles for the righty are very very real. Tonight he pitched a mere 2/3 inning before he was pulled. His line reads: 2/3 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR, 2 ER. This isn't the first outing like this for Hernandez since his IL return back on July 4th. The full picture needs to be articulated here: Hernandez was coming off two clean outings and lowering his ERA to 5.47 at the time he went on the IL on June 17th. There was some progress there. The numbers weren't exactly pretty but he was having impact semi-regularly when I tuned in for Shuckers baseball. Since his return, his WHIP has elevated by 0.29 to 2.00 and his ERA has ballooned to 7.46. In three outings in August, hitters have hit to the tune of 0.538 and he owns a 3.86 WHIP. I don't know what's going on for the young man, but, clearly something isn't working. I wish him the best of success in turning this around but, as of right now, it doesn't look pretty. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 5, South Bend (Cubs) 2 Box Score/Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers' site, game details, please visit and review: Rodríguez Shines in Rattlers Wins - Right-Hander Allows One Run over Six Innings as Rattlers Beat Cubs Tasty Home Series Media Nuggets: Post-Game Pod Full-Game You Tube Highlights: We've been saying it quite often since the calendar flipped to August, but it's worth reminding anyone following the Timber Rattlers: Zavier Warren is capable of output like this even if his early-season numbers didn't suggest as much. He's been filling in admirably at first base to boot - he can man both corners admirably and with skill. He was hoping to keep his current hot streak to the test once again in support of new teammate, RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez - making his first home start in the Midwest League. Rodriguez mixed in his sneaky low 90's heat (continuing to sneak up on batters) with a variety of breaking balls and off-speed offerings keeping batters off balance. All told, Rodriguez has now pitched a combined 10 IP in High-A allowing a single earned run while striking out 11. A much needed calming force for the T-Rats pitching staff. Three Quick Strikes: 1) Is recent 2022 draftee, INF/3B Paul Metzinger simply in a rough patch defensively thrust into High-A action or is he somewhat defensively challenged? I innately lean toward the former for a 2022 7th round draft pick but having watched his early games here I do casually wonder. We saw a bobble and failure to get the ball out in what eventually became a 3-run game-deciding inning in game 1 of this series and tonight he tripped on his own feet charging a third inning bunt single rendering him incapable of getting the bare-handed throw out of his hand. He did manage to make a fast play to get the dangerous CF Crow-Armstrong so we give credit where it is due but I found myself again wondering if he has the arm to play the hot corner. He seems to have a finesse toss from a position that often requires a cannon - having watched far too many Minor League games in 2022 I have not seen a softer toss to first base from the hot corner in all the Brewers system. Time will tell, obviously, but it has certainly drawn my attention early. 2) RHP James Meeker does not flinch - even after a called pitch clock violation by the infield umpire. This gave an auto-ball to start a count with the bases juiced and the leading run at the plate in a tense bottom of the ninth inning. With the bases still juiced and only one down and the top of the Cubs order at the dish, Meeker proceeded to deftly strike out two consecutive batters. A special kudos is also in order for C Jeferson Quero saving what seemed a surefire wild pitch on a tailing inside heater. Both young men make the extremely difficult look entirely too easy. How about the second consecutive full-count with the bases juiced and the game on the line: 3) Has Darrien Miller suddenly found a niche as a lead-off hitter?!? I would certainly say the early results hint at a resounding 'Yes'. Prospects can always surprise you and every one of these young men is capable of great things. But, I have to admit: I really did not even consider Miller at lead-off. A tip of the proverbial cap to manager Joe Ayrault for plugging in a crafty player in a position of need for his batting order. Let's hope Miller keeps on taking those free passes and can take this and run with it. Carolina Pre-Game Notes Game 1 Final: Carolina 4, Delmarva (Orioles) 0 Box Score / Game Log Game 2 Final: Delmarva 6, Carolina 4 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats' site, game details, please visit and review: Game 1: Mudcats Complete Suspended Game with 4-0 Shutout Win - The 4-0 Shutout was Carolina's First Shutout Victory on the Road this Season Game 2: Win Streak Ends at Five as Carolina Falls 6-4 - Hendry Mendez went 1-for-4 in his Return to the Starting Lineup The Mudcats picked up in the fifth inning to complete yesterday's rain-shortened affair. Shortly thereafter, they followed with an abbreviated seven-inning game to complete the double-header. LHP Pablo Garabitos took the hill in game 1 hoping to build off RHP Stiven Cruz's excellent start the day before. After a clean bottom of the fifth, he loaded the bases in the sixth but managed to escape the jam on a ground out to Robert Moore at second base. All told, Garabitos managed to go five complete and scoreless innings grabbing his third victory of his season and improving the Mudcats record to four games above 0.500. In Game 2, the Mudcats came back to tie the game at 4-4 in the 5th inning but couldn't hang on as lefty, Leoni De La Cruz surrendered two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Ultimately, as the headline above reads, the young men saw their five game winning streak end. Three Quick Strikes: 1) It's early in his Minor League career, but Eric Brown Jr. certainly seems to have that 'it' you look for in highly drafted prospects. He is calm and collected at the plate - rarely chasing a pitch. He has a clear confidence and swagger imparting confidence to his teammates. He has a nice athletic build and a bit of power in the offensive toolkit to boot. He also clearly runs the bases with well-timed take-offs. He was the clear offensive MVP of the second half of game 1 as he finished with two walks and two steals. I'm going to get out ahead of the crowd and label this young man a 'fast riser'. 2) Sometimes simply seeing a player return is all you need to claim a victory. When it was announced OF Hendry Mendez would take the lead-off and DH slot in the game 2 line-up, I was extremely thrilled. In his first action since his scary spill into the right field wall in foul territory on July 31s, the young Mendez finished with a 1-for-4 evening with 2 RBI. A sigh of relief was exhaled across the Brewers organization. 3) If I could use only two words to describe the 2022 season of RHP Edwin Jimenez they would be: talented and inconsistent. Tonight, Jimenez lacked control and or savvy on the mound and lasted only 4 1/3 innings while allowing 9 H, 1 BB, and 4 ER while striking out three. Like many young pitchers exploring the fine-tuning of their craft, Jimenez struggles to stack successes. Just as I've seen him surprise like his previous 10 K outing, I've seen him struggle like tonight. I continue to hope he can stack outing by season's end. ACL Reds 6, ACL Brewers Gold 5 Box Score / Game Log Cameron Wagoner - 11th round pick 2022 - started and pitched the opening two innings scoreless with 1 K. Other highlights are the ongoing stellar output of Dutch outfielder and Brewers 2021 16th round draft pick, Kaylan Nicasia - 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 2B tonight - and 12th round pick, 3B Luke Adams, going 2-for-4 in the clean-up slot with a run scored and his first double. Let's go, Logan, we're all rooting for you! INF's Jheremy Vargas and Quinton Low each hit solo shots to give the Brewers Blue their sole runs. Vargas added two walks and his former Mudcats running mate, Oswel Leones, grabbed three free passes as well - both young men by every measure are playing quite well in Arizona. The loss in this one will go to 19-year-old RHP Jared Albir who gave up 4 R, 2 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, and 4 K in 5 IP. We thank @Mass Haas for the fine offerings you'll see throughout the DSL portion of this report: DSL Brewers #1 4, DSL Tigers #2 0, seven Innings as scheduled Box Score / Game Log It was a combined four-hitter with ten strikeouts and just one walk for the trio of RHP's: 16-year-old Ranwell Smith, who pitched the first inning only (hopefully planned), recently turned 17-year-old Bryan Rivera, and the sage 2nd-year pro, Dominican native Gregory Baez. Smith (who turns 17 in less than two weeks) and Rivera are among the Brewer signings out of Nicaragua. The four-inning scoreless stint for Rivera was the first time in six pro appearances (four starts) that he had not allowed a run, and among the three hurlers, Rivera's command peripherals (20 K, 8 BB, 20 IP) are the strongest. The Pizzeria Uno Crew tallied three runs in the first on only two hits, thanks to the generosity of the Tigers battery - big mix of multiple walks, wild pitches, and passed balls, with an HBP tossed in. The inning should have been more productive, but with runners on 2nd and 3rd, the final two Crew batters in the frame struck out. A Luis Watter double and Jhonny Severino RBI single added a late insurance run. This game marked a professional debut as 19-year-old catcher Juan Rosa was the designated hitter. He went 0-for-3 with two K's and a GIDP, but hey young man, you're now a professional baseball player for the rest of time enshrined on Baseball Reference and the like. Rosa slipped under our radar, signed on August 5th, and his native country is yet to be listed on his MiLB Player Page. Let's make sure CF Luis Lara gets a little extra base running attention next extended spring. His 17-year-old legs are only 6-for-13 on the base paths. Suspended: DSL Tigers #2 Squad 3, DSL Brewers #1 Squad 0, one out in the top of the 4th (Tigers batting) Box Score / Game Log This game is actually the make-up attempt of a July 1st game that never got underway, and the box score indicates this contest was cut short by rain. Through their three trips to the plate, Crew batters are 0-for-9 with three walks. If the league does schedule a makeup, it'll be Tuesday August 16th, the only game remaining between these two teams, though that game is at the Tigers complex. We'll see, as we're sure you'll all set your calendars to see if the Brewers can avoid the seven-inning no-hitter, which actually wouldn't qualify as a no-no under big-league guidelines. DSL Texas Blue 6, DSL Brewers #2 5, seven innings as scheduled Box Score / Game Log The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers did all their damage in a six-run 4th against two RHP's - 20-year-old Dominican native Stanley Encarnacion was your starter, in his 4th season with the Crew and 3rd on the island (accounting for the lost 2020 campaign). Encarnacion, even after today's outing, maintains a strong 1.20 WHIP for 2022. It's been a big struggle for rookie Franddy De Los Santos however, another pitching on native turf, who allowed an inherited runner to score and then two more of his own doing.. Like in the DSL Brewers #1 Squad game, a pro debut was on the docket as 18-year-old Estefano Lozano, also listed as a catcher when not DH'ing as he was here, didn't get his first base hit, but he did draw a walk and then was plunked in his final plate appearance. After scoring four times in the 5th on just two hits, Dos Cerveceritos Club painfully stranded two in each of the final two innings. The main blow during that four-run rally was a two-out, two-run double from catcher Eric Martinez out of the cleanup spot. The 18-year-old Venezuelan catcher is now 10-for-19 in August and has his OPS up to .841. The double was the first of those ten hits for extra bases, and Martinez has not walked during this recent stretch, but his batted balls are finding safety away from defenders. We are back to our regularly scheduled eight games tomorrow - the DSL affiliates will play the morning and all others will play through the night. Recently promoted RHP Alexander Vallecillo will gladly look to lower his robust 135.00 ERA - earned after his lone abbreviated Low-A start. By every measure we have, Joe is just a very good human. Every interview he's done, he's been extremely personable and relatable to us 'common folk'. There was a great anecdote when the Rattlers first traveled to Quad Cities earlier in the year and the River Bandits announcer was saying how when the T-Rats first got to the ballpark he saw Joe Gray Jr. slip out the back gate and head down the river with his fishing pole. He took off his shoes. Stood on the banks. And started casting. THAT'S an athlete I can relate to. Baseball-wise, he has all the physical tools you could ask for in an outfielder - size, strength, speed, fluidity. He's an insanely gifted athlete. His issue has simply been consistency at the plate. He tends to get fooled by breaking balls (as a lot of young players do). Either way, he has the goods if he can put it all together. Some players simply take more time but he's simply a very easy young man to root for. The Chourio goods definitely all came late and, man, he almost single-handedly won them the game in the ninth. He got to third base all alone through patience and will-power, really. They just couldn't bring him across home plate. As a side note: I live in Minneapolis/St. Paul for 10 years (1998-2008) and even bought a house in St. Paul with my parents that we've since sold. I have many many formative memories of my time in the Twin Cities.

Three Quick Strikes: 1) Having scuffled a bit of late, it was a sight for sore eyes to see RHP Zach Vennarro pitch so efficiently and effectively in the eighth inning keeping the game at a manageable 4-5 deficit. Two strike outs and a fly out to get out of the inning unscathed is just the type of work manager Mike Guerrero is looking for from his former Closer. Vennarro is down but certainly not out - control has been his biggest ailment of late. Let's hope for more of this in the days and weeks ahead. The 2) Welcome to Double-A, Garrett Whitely ! After an inconsistent start (albeit in an extremely small sample size), in the games I've seen, Whitely had certainly strutted the speed that made him a high draft choice many years ago, but was looking for more meaningful contact. Tonight it was his veteran bat (2-for-4, 1 R, 3 RBI) doing the talking: 3) Can we talk about the struggles of 2022 INF Gabe Holt ? It's been a proverbial 'one of those' types of seasons for the young man. He just can't seem to get anything going at the plate and that struggle certainly continued tonight: 0-for-3, 1K. His season batting average is now sitting at 0.205. We know the batting average is often misleading but when taken in context with a 0.507 OPS...it tells a more complete story. The struggle is quite real. I hope he can turn it around and start making better contact and/or getting on base. We're rooting for you, young man. Of late, however, Puello has scuffled and struggled quite a bit and tonight was no different. This being said, other than doing the current T-Rats thing of surrendering first-inning runs (a two-run homer tonight) the third run was simply a heck of a swing and a heck of a hit over the wall in right field; the pitch was down and tailing in. There's nothing you can do about that. But, let's call it like it is: the fifth inning definitely got away from the Puello. Three Quick Strikes: 1) Trailing 7-0 in the fifth inning and facing a no-hit affair, DH Darrien Miller got things going with a single that snuck past a diving second baseman into right field. Joe Gray Jr. definitely aided that ball as his slight hesitation and hold-up clearly confused the second baseman. However, it was OF Arbert Cipion who will get the detailed kudos here. After being fooled on several off-speed breaking balls, he worked the count full by barely fouling off a change-up. On the 3-2 pitch, he took a fastball middle and away right where the patient swing would take it: into the gap in right-center field for his fourth triple and his fourth XBH in four games. You love to see Cipion get further acclimated. He is definitely easy to root for with his affable and positive personality. Take a quick look: 2) Since a red hot beginning to his High-A career and after many a worthy accolade received, OF Jackson Chourio had cooled off as of late. Over his last four outings, Chourio was 1-for-15 with 1 R, 1 2B, 6 K, 1 BB. Well, just go ahead and scratch that. 3-for-17 with 2 doubles and a key SB. As I wrote this, Chourio roped his fourth double and then scored on an ensuing Zavier Warren two-base knock. His ninth inning single (a pro's pro piece of hitting) then gave the T-Rats a real chance at stealing a win. Sometimes the reverse jinx needs to be started and then finished. Speaking of Warren, coming off an unbelievably hot week he continued going - 2-for-5 tonight with his 26th double. What a run for Warren! 3) One of the things the T-Rats will most likely struggle with since Tristan Peters ' promotion and then organizational departure is filling the lead-off position in their line-up. Looking up-and-down their roster, I struggle to find a single player to fill that important position. For my money, tonight simply demonstrated what we already saw in Carolina: INF Eduardo Garcia isn't a lead-off hitter. He strikes out entirely too much and isn't really an on-base type of player at this point in his career (0-for-5, 4 K on the evening). My meaningless two cents would offer: If INF's Zach Raabe or Jadher Areinamo aren't headed up to Wisconsin, they might just have to throw Chourio into the lead-off spot. Carolina Pre-Game Notes Final: Carolina 7, Delmarva (Orioles) 5 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats' site, game details, please visit and review: Brown and Sibrian Homer as Mudcats Take Opener 7-5 - Jose Sibrian Homered in the Ninth and Eric Brown Jr. Hit His First Professional Home Run as Carolina Won its Third Straight The Delmarva Shorebirds came into tonight's contest with the Mudcats losers of six straight and losers of nine straight at home. The Mudcats hoped to keep that trend going but fell into a three-run hole early. All told, despite the two-run home run early, RHP Jeferson Figueroa managed to complete 5 IP, 5 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 7K. Not the best of outings and certainly not the worst - Figueroa kept his team in the game, all things considered. RHP Michele Vassalotti came on relief in the sixth inning with aims of keeping the contest close. He did manage to do so, but he also struggled to the tune of 3 BB's and 28 pitches. It wasn't pretty, but, he got the key bases-loaded pop up to escape the jam. Three Quick Strikes: 1) If you are looking for unorthodox batting stances, take a trip down to watch this current Mudcats offense. We all know of Hedbert Perez and his unorthodox vertically toe-elevated lead foot with his open stance. But, with the arrivals of OF Luis Castillo and INF Eric Brown Jr., we've taken the 'whatever makes you comfortable' mantra to new heights. If I attempted Castillo's bat maneuvering I would most likely break my wrist. As the Delmarva announcer said: "Castillo is a walking espresso!" It isn't just the bat flip - from one side of his head over to the next (violently) - but, he's also bouncing on the balls of his feet. It's the variety batting pack down in Zebulon. 2) Speaking of Delmarva's nine-game home losing streak, the seventh inning fielding display showed us all we needed to see to understand what might be aiding this Shorebirds' streak of losing play. A routine infield pop-up with not a single infielder to stake their claim fell to the grass gifting catcher Jose Sibrian first base. Then, with men on first and second and two down, struggling (mightily) Shorebirds short stop Frederick Bencosme back-pedaled and completely missed the catch allowing both Mudcats' runners to cross the dish. A 5-4 lead vanished as the Mudcats took the lead 6-5. Adding insult to injury, just after Brown Jr. slid under the catcher's tag, the right field lights literally went out. Sheeeesh. Tough sledding in Delmarva. 3) Speaking of Brown Jr., his batting stance may be un-orthodox but it is very very much in control and reproduced with absolute ease and consistency - a stance he has been fine-tuning for literally years. After fighting off an inside pitch early for a looping single, he hit this bomb over the wall in left field: His next at-bat, with calm and collected poise and recognizing the Shorebirds were avoiding his bat, Brown Jr. took the lead-taking walk...when he also hustled from first base and slid home after the aforementioned biffed pop-up to shallow shallow left field. This young man has already caught my eye making several winning plays. This doesn't even get into the quick twitch reaction and speed I saw from switch-hitting second baseman (tonight) Robert Moore who made several eye-popping plays early while also hitting a double down the left field line. This will be a duo we'll continue to watch. ACL Reds 10 , ACL Brewers Gold 1 Box Score / Game Log 2022 Brewers 6th round draft pick, RHP Tyler Woessner (Central Arizona JC) was pitching in a familiar state and familiar weather and came out dealing. In his first ACL work for the Brewers, the young hurler tossed an opening inning shutout: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 K, We can work with that! The game was actually 1-1 heading into the 4th inning and, well, it pretty much fell apart after that. Manager, and beloved short-stint Nashville Sounds first base coach, David Tufo, was tossed in the fifth inning. We can only wonder what that was all about. I'll leave it to you to consult the box score and game log. ACL Cubs 3, ACL Brewers Blue 2 Box Score / Game Log UDFA signing, Logan Adams, took the hill tonight for his first Brewers ACL action and opened with a 1 H, 0 BB, 1 K, 0 R opening inning. A fine piece of work for the 22-year-old 6'6" hurler. On the other hand, RHP Quinton Low gave up his first run in 10 IP and I shed a tear for the sudden loss of perfection. It was a good run, young man and we thank you for keeping the thrill alive. Continuing his rehab assignment, 1B/DH Ernesto Martinez continued swinging a good bat - wonderful to see! He finished his evening 2-for-4 with both ACL Blue RBI. Unfortunately, the Cubs plated a run in the seventh and, as they say, that's all she wrote. DSL Texas Blue 6, DSL Brewers #1 2 Box Score / Game Log The DSL Brewers 1 struck first in this contest leading 1-0 after their half of the third inning. After a fielding error put OF Deylan Gomez aboard, Johnny Severino responded with his 11th double of his season and there were runners on 2nd and 3rd base. A wild pitch plated Gomez and it was 1-0. The runs stopped there, however, as OF Duncan Garcia struck out on four pitches ending any further threat. Unfortunately for the Brewers 1, it was mostly Texas Blue skies from there as they plated three runs in each of the 4th and 6th innings with only two of the runs earned. Ouch. An opening walk to INF Gery Holguin (manning short stop today as Severino was back at third base) led to a run after a wild pitch and two ground outs making the score 6-2 Texas Blue. The game ended shortly thereafter as 1B Richard Rojas struck out on three pitches - his fourth strikeout in an 0-for-4 day. DSL Brewers #2 7, DSL Baltimore Orange 2 Box Score / Game Log This game had the look of a strikeout bonanza with six punch outs across both frames of the first inning. After the Brewers 2 and Baltimore Orange exchanged single runs in the bottom of the second and the top of the fourth innings, respectively, the Brewers 2 broke things open in the bottom-half of the same fourth frame. After a couple of singles and a couple of Baltimore errors, the key hit appears to be INF Juan Baez's double (his 9th of the season) plating two runs and increasing the Brewers 2 lead to 5-1. Baez later walked and stole second base (his 13th steal of the summer) and took third base after a catcher throwing error. As I alluded to yesterday: Baez is really making a case for himself in the 2022 DSL and today certainly drove that point home. RHP Anfernny Reyes completed 4 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 ER. Once again closing the back end in fine fashion was the one-two punch of lefty Jose Meneses and righty Nelson Cuevas - they appear to be the classic set-up to closer combo for the DSL Brewers 2. All told, the duo went 3 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 1 R (0 ER), 3 K to finish the game handing the Brewers 2 (and Meneses) another victory. Also of note, catcher Eric Martinez continued his red hot summer going 3-for-4 on the day and improving his output to a 0.295 BA / 0.845 OPS in 88 AB's. We'll look past Martinez's catcher interference and pick-off errors - his first two errors of his season. A casual reminder that the ACL does not play Wednesdays. However, both DSL affiliates take the field as the full-season teams continue their respective series. RHP Justin Jarvis will look to reclaim his dominant stuff after his last abbreviated outing while RHP TJ Shook will look to build off his 10 K outing his past time on the mound. Awesome post! Love this and certainly hope we get more before the season ends. Thanks for sharing! I would also opine we have several an intriguing catching stat line ongoing in the DSL. The two team set-up also affords the ability to mix and match when opponents face the ever-present 2022 (and onward) anomaly of the COVID postponement - as we've seen recently.

Lastly, we've discussed the incredible season INF Cam Devanney has had at the dish (and, it's been something). Some here who haven't had the opportunity to see the games have asked about his defense. It's quite good. Truly. Since game 1 he's shown a steady glove and a cannon for an arm. Check out this spinning stop just past the third base bag and his momentum bringing him into foul territory. RHP Jason Alexander took the hill for just his second start since being sent back down by the Brewers. Alexander is just so calm and collected - even when the home plate umpire was extremely inconsistent and missing clear strike calls, Alexander just stayed calm and poised and delivered until the sixth inning. There was just so much FUN in this game, folks. I'm going to get right into my 'Three Strikes', but, suffice it to say: we have a limited time to watch this Sounds collection of talent. Do so while you can: It is undeniably electric. Three Quick Strikes: 1. My first 'Live' impressions of Ruiz are thus: extremely disciplined at the plate - not a single swing on a pitch outside the zone. He clearly is capable of waiting for his pitch. He will unleash a home run swing only when the situation demands. He exudes confidence. He is a very dangerous threat on the base paths. Don't be fooled by two 'CS' marks - he was definitely caught by an eyelash during his first steal attempt (an incredible throw by the Tides catcher) but the umpires absolutely blew a successful steal in his second attempt. He slid under and ahead of the tag attempt. The umps, plain and simple, blew it. A minor theme during a dominant Sounds performance. There is a ton to like with Ruiz. Let's also remember: this is a 23-year-old fast rising uber-talented prospect. A fantastic first outing. 2. What about our other recently promoted super prospects? My goodness, folks, they were also what we might call 'electric'. The thing about each and every one of Sal Frelick, Garrett Mitchell, and Joey Wiemer is: they are dangerous in every facet of baseball. Whether they are manning the outfield grass, in the batters box, or on the base paths every one of these young men can hurt the opponent. Frelick led things off in incredible fashion last night. Tonight, Mitchell and Wiemer joined in the fun. Perhaps the most impressive play was Garrett Mitchell's calm and collected easy and smooth three-run home run stroke over the wall in right center - rumored to be 395 feet though not official. Maybe it was Wiemer's two easy stolen bases? All in all, we saw a collective 6-for-15 amongst the three with 3 R, 5 RBI and the 2 SB. And, here's the lone highlight: 3. Lost in seemingly every prospect shuffle, for whatever inexplicable reason, is the ongoing tremendous age 22 season we are seeing from tantalizing and uber-talented Brice Turang . Turang is the epitome of a smooth and easy athlete. He makes everything he does look fascinatingly easy - just take his utterly ridiculous running scoop and toss for a key double play in the middle innings. Other than his XBH desert in June, he has been absolutely incredible in 2022. He hit his 7th home run tonight, adding to the riches of glorious fun I witnessed this fine August evening. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Game 1: Biloxi 3, Mississippi (Braves) 2 Game 1: Box Score / Game Log Game 2: Biloxi 2, Mississippi 0 Game 2: Box Score / Game Log Via the Shuckers' site, game details, please visit and review: Biloxi Takes Both Legs of Wednesday Night Doubleheader - Lutz and Dillard Both Homer The Shuckers were the beneficiaries of two fantastic outings from LHP Nick Bennett in game 1 and then RHP TJ Shook in game 2. To boot, the bullpen was definitively up to the task as RHP Cam Robinson grabbed his second Double-A save with a scoreless two strikeout outing in game 1 and tight-rope walker, RHP Zach Vennarro, grabbed the nerve-racking save to close out game 2 completing two seven-inning affairs. The Braves are a vastly different ball club, I might add, minus the heavy impacts of one CF Michael Harris III who is now an everyday starter in Atlanta. The entire Southern League are the beneficiaries of his absence. Regardless, what else happened down in Mississippi? Let me give you a few ideas. Three Quick Strikes: 1. We may have seen Wiemer, Frelick and Mitchell head north to Nashville but the same Shuckers who were hitting while those studs were in Biloxi continue to hit when they're gone. I'm looking at the ongoing production of INF Andruw Monasterio, OF Tristen Lutz, 1B Thomas Dillard, and INF Cam Devanney. All these young men had something meaningful to say tonight. And their output ultimately put across the deciding runs. Here's a few tastes: (Oh geez! Whose that trotting ahead of home run King, Tristen Lutz? None other than Devanney...) And I share the final highlight encouraging you to turn the volume up. I heard this blast from the other room and, I swear, the sound you hear is 'It's Gone!'. This is crushed: 2. Let's talk about Shook getting comfortable. Let's talk about 9 K's in 4 IP. That's the stuff of shut-down dominance. Other than a weird pitch-clock full count walk leading to a brief bases loaded scare, Shook was pretty dang electric. From my vantage point, it seems like he's setting his baseline right now and finding his pace and comfortability. And, I personally believe there's more in the toolkit we haven't quite seen. Tonight, he really focused on a three-pitch mix of a high heater, a sneaky back door slider, and an effective change-up. I think we're just scratching the surface. He's got the frame and the muscle and the arm action to get even better and more dominant. I, for one, am extremely excited to see where this all leads. The final line reads: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 0 R, 9 K. Whewwww. That's the proverbial stuff. 3. I mentioned Robinson above (and, for good measure, J.C. Mejia also had a scoreless 2 K frame in his first rehab start), but let's go back and talk about the continued run of consistency and impact we are seeing from LHP Nick Bennett . He's getting comfortable. The tweaks are working. And the results speak for themselves. Including tonight, in his last five outings we are looking at: 5 GS, 29 IP, 7 ER, 34 K. 7 BB, 3 HR - WHIP and BAA are unadjusted after tonight (with slight elevation considering). In July, WHIP: 1.04 / BAA: 0.205. I don't know about you, but I'm really looking forward to three or four more starts in August with his name all over the line-up card. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 8, Quad Cities (Royals) 6 Box Score/Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers' site, game details, please visit and review: Eight is Enough for Wisconsin - Warren Drives in Five Runs as Rattlers Hold on for 8-6 Win at Quad Cities I've been watching all the changes happening in and amongst the Timber Rattlers roster for some time. I've discussed the obvious: players who had the talent and weren't seeing the production perhaps needed some minor adjustment or, frankly, some luck and hopefully we would see the results. One of the highest on the ladder for such a suggestion was INF Zavier Warren . And, wow, let me tell you Warren has stepped up and then some. Since the trade deadline passed two games ago, Zavier has hit two triples, a double, and two home runs. That's, ummmm, something. I'm sure we'll see the OPS elevation totals in the next 24 hours and it will be wondrous. Either way, he has stepped into the talent gap and reminded us: Zavi's got talent. For a player with such steady stuff; such availability; and a young man wise beyond his baseball years it's been awesome to see the results come to fruition these past couple games. Three Quick Strikes: 1. If Warren is knocking in multi-run homers, who the heck is on base? You might surmise, Jackson Chourio . And, well, you'd be spot on. Chourio continued his High-A tear by going 4-for-6 with three runs crossed. It's hard to fathom going up a level and rising to the occasion like Chourio has done, but, we're seeing it in real time. Tonight was filled with many a seeing-eye single. I guess when you've got it going, you've really got it going: 2. INF Antonio Piñero showed out, as did C Alex Hall , and they deserve mention but I'm going to focus in on the continual consistent production of INF Jose Acosta . Since his acquisition earlier this season, he's done nothing but play consistent ball. He appears to have taken the fifth spot in the batting order protecting improving Warren. Tonight, Acosta went 2-for-4 with a run, a rbi, a stolen base, and a caught stealing. It's a luxury having a solidifying force in the infield given the loss of Tyler Black and the struggles elsewhere in the infield. 3. With the loss of RHP Kent Hasler months ago to the higher levels and with the recent promotion of RHP Cam Robinson to Double-A Biloxi, the closer role has been taken and really filled expertly by RHP James Meeker. Meeker was one of the more intriguing Brewers indy pick-ups in the 2021 off-season. After some hiccups early in 2022, he has absolutely settled in and played with confidence and poise. Tonight was no different as Meeker pitched a scoreless one-walk ninth inning and picked up his seventh save in nine opportunities. Carolina Pre-Game Notes Final: Carolina 5, Kannapolis (White Sox) 3 Box Score / Game Log Via the Mudcats' site, game details, please visit and review: Castillo Hits Late Go-Ahead Homer in 5-3 Victory RHP Stiven Cruz rebounded with aplomb. Cruz gave his teammates all the opportunity they needed to even the Mudcats season series with the Cannonballers at 7-7. When all was said and done, Cruz pitched to the tune of: 5 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 1 HR, and 9 K. These are outings the young hurler can build on and these are the outings that continue to give the Brewers personnel staff sneak peaks at what might be in his bright future. Three Quick Strikes: 1. Not to be lost in Cruz's fine outing is the fine bullpen work we witnessed across the board from the Mudcats. Recent ACL call-up RHP Jeison Pena continued to show he belongs with 2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, and 3 K. He was backed up by RHP Karlos Morales who continues to claim a meaningful role as a late-inning out getter with 1 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 K ball. And, it would appear we have a second closer in RHP Brannon Jordan who picks up his third save in five opportunities with a scoreless 1 H and 2 K shutdown ninth inning. Fantastic stuff all around! 2. While INF Jadher Areinamo continues to get rightful notoriety in our community of fans, we may have overlooked OF's Luis Castillo due to his recent minor tailing off after a red-hot start to his ACL season. Tonight, Castillo showed up in a big way with a 3-for-4 line and the go-ahead homer late. It's clutch two out hits like this that remind us why he was rewarded with 'Player of the Month' accolades playing in Arizona: 3. Not to be outdone in the 'Don't forget me!' department, INF Eduardo Garcia had a pleasant return to effectiveness at the dish tonight. He finished 2-for-4 on the evening, with a solo shot; two runs; and the home run RBI. But, what I get excited about if I'm honest is the null set in the strikeout department. This is what will play across all levels. It's a work in progress, but we're rooting for the young man to keep on showing out: We will see DSL and ACL clubs taking to the diamond again tomorrow. Who knows, maybe we'll get real hot and see an 8-0 evening. Either way, we'll be watching and giving you all the low down from 'down on the farm'. I'll personally be tuning into see if RHP Justin Jarvis can make it three consecutive victories in Quad Cities. I'll probably check in on LHP Brandon Knarr 's outing at Mississippi as well.
