    Just a friendly reminder: Knarr wasn't drafted because he was a part of the much abbreviated 5-Round COVID draft. Only 160 players were chosen. Wagoner and Lazar are both indeed experiencing quite a bit of success and positive momentum pitching for Brisbane in the Australian Winter League. The Brewers even placed Lazar on Nashville's roster (on paper, at least) before the Rule 5 Draft earlier this December.

    Oh, once he got comfortable and was given the proverbial green light to steal whenever and however, Ruiz nearly did it once a game if my increasingly geezer memory serves correct. BUT, if you consider his power stroke had come back to Earth and considering how absolutely adept he is at laying down realllllly good bunts, Ruiz bunting on is an on base weapon. His capacity to time jumps is fairly ludicrous.

    I think a major part of the reporting missing on the A's side of things is: They must really love bunt singles. And, that is my Esteury Ruiz joke to close my 2022 calendar year.

    Worth sharing: It would appear, the Brewers were not the only one's scouting Varland. The bullpen shift must have showed something the Brewers liked quite a bit.

    He was a super steady OF presence in Nashville, for sure. But, once the youth moment took hold he saw the writing on the wall. He's a steady presence and a fluid athlete. He got going offensively after a slow start. Solid defensive presence. A good depth piece. He could probably fill in rotationally - or even carve out a role - in thinner outfield groups. I wish him well. He's a good pro.

    I'll chime in: I am completely unconcerned by Frelick's 'lack of power'. What he displayed from essentially the moment he returned from the Il in Biloxi is he makes ridiculously good contact. That will play as a lead-off at any level. And that is who he is: a true lead-off hitter. Rick Sweet spoke to this glowingly when he was with Nashville. I agree with you on the defensive commentary. The clear most talented defensive outfielders in the upper echelon of the Brewers farm are Mitchell and Wiemer. Due to his range and versatility, I'd go Frelick next. I'd personally place Chourio on a tier with Esteury Ruiz - the Gold Glove just didn't make sense to me given what I saw in 2022 (tho, admittedly, I place an decent emphasis on arm strength and accuracy and Chourio's arm is sinply average at best).

    This is a Brice Turang post. Welcome to the Big Dance, young fella. Y'all are going to love watching him play. Hopefully, the bat evolution continues. He made big big strides in his hands last year and we started seeing a bit of power pop play. I'm excited - he's as steady as they come in the field.

    Purely depth would be my best guess. I don't have any contacts in the Brewers personnel dept or FO. BUT, from a strictly roster building perspective, I would opine it makes some sense. I obviously would have rather the 40-Man spot been used to protect Cam Devanney from the Rule 5 - I continue to find him vastly underrated and my personal opinion is he is already a really good baseball player with underestimated upside. BUT, the Brewers may view the bevy of OF talent, especially with a Jackson Chourio in the wings, as a place to trade from as they make more roster decisions down the line. Having a switch-hitting, improving and possibly ascending (emphasis on possibly) former high round talent is understandable. It could also strictly be they valued him as a priority Minor League FA for that AAAA depth as other 2021/22 ML FA's depart for other clubs. Hard to tell and I don't imagine they'll speak much to this acquisition and we won't know what transpires until if and when Perkins makes it into the ML season with the Brewers organization. Using the 40-man spot as a bit of enhancement to get the signing, however, should tell you they value the signing more so than other ML FA pick-ups - at least at this juncture.

    A friend of our family is in the Yankees personnel department and has advanced fairly close to a voice in Cashman's ear. He said Perkins has made noticeable improvements in the patience of his approach this past season. I would offer his lefty stroke reminds me quite a bit of Garrett Mitchell. Anyhow, I know it's not cool to not complain but I'm excited to watch his growth in Nashville (and perhaps Milwaukee) in 2023. Fun signing.

    Love me some Pablo Reyes. Let's hope he gets some meaningful MLB burn ala Mark Mathias with the Rangers just this past season. Pablo wore many hats with the Sounds - including the clubhouse translator for the Spanish speaking teammates. He will be missed.

    Also, I said it all summer in my Minor League Reports: Jon Singleton: really talented baseball player. Did I think he'd be protected from the Rule 5 draft? Heck no. Am I disappointed? Absolutely not. Incredibly underrated defense and hands. Always a threat to go long off a righty. Always a threat to grab a free pass - he set the Sounds single season record for walks in 2022. Cam Robinson scuffled and struggled some in his promotions to Double and Triple-A, respectively. BUT, let us not forget: when he is on he is very on. He did throw an immaculate inning in Nashville. It's fairly evident the Brewers know they have something here. Lively arm. Lotta violence in his delivery. Saves leader across all of Minor League baseball in 2022 so he is capable of handling big moments. I expect bigger and better things as he gets more experience. I am saddened they didn't ensure Devanney's protection. Extremely underrated talent. If he gets nabbed, I'm going to be fairly bummed. He made my ritual nightly Brewers Minor League viewings (especially in Biloxi) more enjoyable. He has a bright future - I just hope it's with the Crew.

You don't let a guy who regularly sits 98-99 and touches 101 with some nasty breaking stuff sit idly by while the Tampa Bay Rays find a way to scoop him up for their Big League roster. Uribe dominanced in the AFL: 0 runs allowed over six weeks with massive K numbers. What's more? I'm fairly certain he was working on a secondary fastball grip in Arizona too. I can't confirm this. I haven't seen it confirmed. BUT, I'm fairly certain he was working on multiple grips in Arizona. There's a lot in his toolkit and I would surmise he's adding to it.

    Bump. Less than 24 hours away from the Rule 5 Draft protection deadline, and the Brewers MLB roster sits at 35. Quite interesting.

    I feel like the Rays should consider combining teams and locations at this point - the whole shebang. Tampa can benefit from the Brewers fan base. Brewers fans can benefit from a broader talent pool and a neo-tropical locale. Additionally, there is some serious Metal merch to be sold with the moniker 'Devil Brewers'. The team could brand their 'Red Ales' accordingly. Considering the highly successful, and routine at this point, mutual benefits when swapping players...there's a lot of side hustle to explore here. I digress. Love, the Knarrly man. I feel like their is a sub-genre of pitcher type in the Brewer's system at present and this group is led by Knarr, Castaneda, and Hasler. I want to know which of these young guns can squat more weight.
