Can we talk about Manfred mispronouncing the 1st Overall pick's name? I mean, is that not entirely on brand for this man? I want to give him the benefit of the doubt, but my goodness he makes it extremely hard.

Yeah. I should also slow my roll on my reacting to 17 minutes BUT I have a hard time getting past the Marjon/Joe Alexander/Haislip/Vaughn/DJ Wilson/Thon/AJ Johnson/Tyler Smith (good god the drafting has been SO bad for so long). Lots of swings and misses there. Bucks could have had Sabonis - another double double merchant. Steinbach just seemed like a decade of double doubles and he's only 20. This all being said, Ament needs to keep getting stronger (he may still be growing). As I said previously, he actually has a pretty good handle for his size. That's a plus. Because of his lack of explosiveness off the dribble, tho, if he's going to be any kind of NBA player he absolutely needs to develop the 3 pt shot and an ability to shoot over people. Those are unknowns at present. Long way to go. We'll just have to wait and see. Honestly, the most disappointing Buck today was probably Kasparas. Hopefully that was just jet legs. He didn't show all that much beyond getting into the lane without a plan and an inability to create for himself.

Oh totally. I mean he was seen as a Value pick and he has had moments. I just thought Steinbach was a plug and play solid rotational Big and Ament was a Big Boom/Bust swing and we tend to overextend for those and our track record hasn't been all that good. It's obviously One game but, man, you could pretty much see he is nowhere close to a rotational player. It stood out. Hopefully the growth and improvements are rapid!😅

Brayden Burries is very good. Ament is, predictably, nowhere close to ready. Sigh. I so believe passing on Steinbach will prove to be an obvious mistake. Hope I'm wrong. Also: 😅 ***?!

Well, this One is about as heartbreaking and strange as it gets. We will likely never know what exactly went on here. My only hope is the individuals involved - the possible alleged aggressors - can atone for any wrongful actions and get the help they need to better themselves. And, I guess, first and foremost, my thoughts are with the player. I hope Melvin has recovered mentally - has gotten the support he needs to feel safe and empowered - and can continue what could be a special professional baseball career. -

All I know is something tells me RHP Jose Nova will not get the call. I still contend, like Yerlin (though, Nova certainly doesn't have the high-leverage raw tools of Yerlin), IF he ever actually consistently controlled his arsenal he'd be a real relief prospect. As is, that 3.53 High-A WHIP at 24 years old is, umm, a hard pill to swallow. 😪

Piggy-backing off of @BruisedCrew's solid post, I'd say, if anything the fact the Cubs fought their way back to 11 over tells us quite a bit about the talent on their club. Their offense is extremely potent. That slump was really weird. Two 10-Game winning streaks isn't anything to scoff at. The 10-Game losing streak? I think that was more the anomalous stretch. The fact they've gotten to double digits over 0.500 with the way they've had to piece meal an actual pitching staff is pretty astounding. They've had to grab the Bryse Wilsons and Drew Pomeranz's off the DFA heap of the veteran world just to get through games. And, yet, even with the number of key losses and injuries on that staff, they've managed to stay above water with a middle-of-the-MLB-pack pitching performance overall. Their deadline will be key. What's wild, to me, is even with all the recent RISP woes the Brewers bats have experienced they have still scored the 5th most runs in MLB and only trail the Cubs by 3 total runs with the Brewers having yet to play today. I swear, the Brewers offense is the ultimate Master of Illusion. I think about their bottom of the order woes throughout the early season - the Rengifo quagmire; the Ortiz slump; having to call up Pratt etc - and their overall lack of HR power and consider their output pretty stunning overall. *** This is typically where I hope @sveumruleswows me with one of his HOF worthy stat compilation posts explaining to my old man brain how the Brewers have done it***

Yeah. I think he leap frogged Easton McGee with his brief stint? I don't know what that even means but he made a very good first impression. He is likely going to need to keep proving himself in the pool of Rom, McGee, and Rodriguez to gain any headway at maintaining that spot, however. It's just the nature of fighting to stay on the Brewers 40-Man.

Bucks re-sign Pete Nance to a 2-Yr Minimum Deal. 2nd Year Player Option. Good for both parties. All this sensible work from the Bucks FO is mildly uncomfortable.😅
