    Two teams enter, one must win. The Brewers are on a too-long losing streak and the Pirates were just swept by the Cubs. I thought this division was clearly better than the AL Central but now I'm not so sure. Both of these divisions continue to defy already-low expectations and keep getting worse. The Crew needs to get back on track here, the division is ripe for the taking and every team refuses to grab the opportunity to run away with this thing.

    Welcome to Brewer Fanatic! It's an interesting situation, no doubt. I was convinced Counsell was gone already but just a few weeks ago, the Twins announced they had extended Baldelli... last year. Now, I don't think that's the situation in Milwaukee, as Counsell is more integral to the team (IMO anyway) than Baldelli is in Minnesota. But it's an interesting thing to note.

    I checked out of the game at 5-3 and... what the hell happened last night? The Twins scored runs after the sixth inning? They scored more than five runs? And Yelich went into beast mode? Is this 2019?

    It's been a small dose of bad luck for Lopez but he's also had the tendency to make bad pitches in critical situations, which can look a lot like bad luck on a stat line. This is a battle of two strangely inconsistent but very good (in the case of Burnes, great) pitchers. I don't know what to expect.

    This season is turning into a sequel of 2022 and it's a sequel I don't care to experience. Both the Brewers and Twins started the season quite strongly, jumped out into first place, and are once again back on their heels in June. These are two struggling teams that aren't playing compelling baseball, yet remain in the thick of divisional races due to the ineptitude of everyone around them. May the least-bad team win!

    Yep, all three of those are very good.

    Oh yeah, you want to combine the two for the most accurate reading, for sure. But 90th percentile exit velo gives a good indication whether a guy is routinely smashing the ball or whether they occasionally luck into really getting one.

    Back on topic, seeing Rowdy start hitting for power again would be a significant step forward for this lineup.

    I'm going to take this moment to whine about Baseball Savant. They do *so much* right but keeping max exit velocity front and center is just stupid, to put it bluntly. Even Jamey Carroll got into one now and again. Using a single data point out of hundreds is bad statistical presentation. 90th percentile exit velocity, on the other hand...

    Sure, because the on-field impact last season wasn't that significant. Trading away Burnes could see a much larger drop in production.

    The team to watch right now is the Twins. Their contract expires after the season and they've been pretty hostile to Bally for a few years now. It will be interesting to see what Bally does with a team that is obviously not interested in renewing with them in six months.

    It's possible I'm wrong but I think teams might be a little cautious given how Burnes has pitched.

    Oh yeah, don't get me wrong there. He'll still net a big return, just maybe not as big as he would if he was pitching better.

    Heyman thinks a trade is unlikely given the blowback of the Hader deal last deadline. I think he's right about that but also, he doesn't mention that Burnes hasn't really looked like Corbin Burnes this season. That alone makes a trade less appealing to the Brewers, as other teams are not going to offer 2021 Corbin Burnes prospect capital for this version of the pitcher. Also, the Brewers rotation is in shambles. Maybe that changes as we approach the deadline but I can't see Arnold repeating the Hader deal in the middle of a division race.
