  1. We're pretty aggressively growing our footprint on Facebook and Twitter, for starters. We've put a ton of effort into SEO to raise the site to prominence in searches. We're trying to break into Reddit a bit more without stepping on toes. And hopefully we'll be able to host a few more events this year that will bring in users. It's a slow grind, there's no magic bullet that we've found; just determination and a lot of work.
  2. That’s a fair point given we’re discussing the NL Central. A loss of a couple of games does outsized damage to any Central team (in either league) seeing an easy path to the postseason that isn’t winning the division.
  3. I just don't see this impacting more than a couple of games. Instead of facing good/bad teams, the aggregate opponent will be .500. When we're talking about changing about 20 games of the schedule, the net gain/loss there just won't be substantial most of the time. Instead of going 11-9, a team goes 9-11. That sort of thing.
  4. Frankly, this is a really disappointing post. Surely you realize not everyone shares your opinion. Who should we listen to? A community is, at its core, a series of compromises.
  5. It was moved to the appropriate forum, which is the site conversation forum. Moderators do this all the time but a link was left for people in the Brewers forum so the visibility is still there. Also, I'm not the person who moved it. Moving it was the right decision but someone had already taken care of it by the time I checked in this morning.
  6. I agree about the Diamondbacks. I think they have a really good shot at being a disruptive force in the NL Wild Card race. I don't have a real problem with an 83 win projection - as a 50th percentile projection, it's fine - but I'm surprised ZiPS likes the Cardinals that much more. While they're obviously a formidable team, I fee like a drop-off from Arenado and Goldschmidt is pretty likely and the Cards derived a ton of value from them last season while they still "only" won 93 games.
  7. Okay @edfunderburk and @TURBO and others, after a bit more thought about this, I'll try to reach a compromise that should suit most of us pretty well. Articles will continue to populate in the Brewers forum but if it doesn't generate conversation or ages out a couple of days, I'll move them out of the forum. I did this to a bunch of threads this morning and now the first page of the Brewers forum goes back ten days. That way we keep a revolving door of new topics in the forum while giving more of the Brewers forum back to user-generated topics.
  8. Oh hey, they got back to me. They've disabled this setting again and while videos may pop up occasionally for a little while, they should disappear entirely over the coming day.
  9. Yeah, I'm pretty bent about this. The ad provider went and changed settings I had very intentionally disabled and videos started appearing in the forums, which broke the layout. I've been waiting 3+ days for them to revert that change.
  10. This is actually something I really want to start doing but from a tech perspective, it's ungainly. I will try to prioritize this once I'm able to get through my current backlog of tasks.
  11. To be clear, all transaction pieces are supposed to be moved to a separate forum. I've tried to do this but maybe missed a few over the past couple of months.
  12. It's not solely about clicks. Forum clicks actually earn us very little money. The goal is users. I'm open to reducing the number of article threads and I'll start moving more of the less-conversation-starting pieces to a separate forum but even with Article threads populating this forum (and getting a lot of conversation), the Brewers forum has a week of topics on the first page alone. If I reduce that a bit, we'd still have 10+ day old threads on the first page of the forums. That's... not great. It's not terrible but it's not great, either. Ideally from a user perspective, the first page of a forum should be revolving pretty quickly with lots of *specific* topics that generate conversation. That's how we bring in new users and get them active on the board. We're getting new posters on a pretty regular basis right now, which is the goal. When we took over the site about a year ago, its traffic levels were about 50% of what they were just three years prior. Now the site is back to 2019 user levels but we need to increase engagement, drawing in new users who contribute to the forums. It's a grinding process and we're playing out a long-term strategy here. With that said, I will begin picking and choosing some article threads to move outside the Brewers forum to reach a compromise point.
  13. I don’t really like it from a long-term fan perspective but if it results in a championship, good for the Padres. That’s the goal, after all.
  14. They hired a guy specifically to analyze and change blackout rules. It happened maybe... two months ago?
  15. Only a couple more days to get your votes in, be sure to do so if you are able!
  16. Probably not right away but the likelihood of that being the case increases if MLB owns distribution. Oh, and welcome to Brewer Fanatic!
  17. Oh, I strongly disagree. It's fun watching teams take different approaches and it's wildly entertaining to see a mid-market team scream "DAMN THE TORPEDOS, FULL SPEED AHEAD!" and throw convention out the window. Yeah, it might end in disaster. It also might end in a world championship. Either way, the ride there is so much fun.
  18. I agree but I'm not sure Wong was the right player to do that. Frankly, I would have been fine going in either direction with the Wong trade. I can see arguments for picking up someone like Winker or trading for prospects and don't feel particularly committed on the subject.
  19. I don't really consider Winker an outfield option at this point in his career and would rather see the Brewers mix and match their OF prospects over giving him significant time in the field.
  20. I like the Winker deal primarily because it was buying low on a formerly consistent player but yeah, I see your point here.
  21. This is pretty exciting news and leads me to openly cheer for the demise of Bally Sports. This is what should have happened during the Fox sale. https://apnews.com/article/mlb-sports-milwaukee-brewers-cleveland-guardians-business-0fb8b0c906f126d9ac6cf92d51400432?fbclid=IwAR33D5vH4KYHfuWZGriH7mC491L5UYJ-wqMGIDJHxFSgnx3cpJSnkAmSoeo
  22. San Diego isn't a small market, it's a mid-market. And the team invested heavily around Petco which has been wildly profitable for them, which allows them to spend even outside mid-market territory. Couple that with the Padres being the only game in town and they spend an out-sized amount on payroll. But we also have to give props to Seidler for spending like a crazy man. It doesn't have to be one or the other.
  23. Honestly, the potential outfield in the second half of 2023 is a compelling x-factor. What combination of Chourio, Wiemer, Frelick, and Mitchell will we see by that time? It has the potential to turn the Brewers into a really compelling outfield both defensively and offensively or it could crash down around our heads. The variance on it is massive, as it usually is with a bunch of rookies in the mix.
  24. Welcome to the site and yes, @CheeseheadInQC is very knowledgeable about the farm!
  25. NO YOU MUST COMMIT TO A GRADE NOW AND NEVER CHANGE YOUR OPINION EVER 😃
