  1. I don't hate the Bally's solution in a lot of ways but it's quite different than what Apple is doing here. For example, as a Minnesotan I cannot buy Bally Sports Wisconsin. I'd happily hand over the cash but they won't let me. But Bally's also owns the rights to the Twins. Surely, if they had enough motivation, they could arrange deals to distribute and stream this differently. Why can't I buy both Bally North and Bally Wisconsin? It's really dumb.
  2. Could everyone answer two questions: What's your favorite pre-game food? What's your favorite in-game food? I know the food selection at AmFam isn't great but there has to be something some of you like. But also, why is the food selection so bad? I thought we were past that era of the baseball experience.
  3. That makes sense. Wong is a capable fielder, gets his feet under him, and makes clean throws. Saying his arm is the worst at the position is definitely an over-simplification, I just didn't realize it graded out that weakly in StatCast. Overall, I'm hoping the shift reduction brings second base back to relevance in the game a bit more. Obviously, we won't see a flood of slap-hitters return to the game but seeing more athleticism at the position is a welcome return.
  4. Outstanding research and analysis as always, Matt. I never even realized Wong's arm was that bad. I knew it wasn't good but woof.
  5. I don't think that's really fair. Sheets is second in Brewers history in bWAR and I'm pretty sure he's way ahead in fWAR. The caveat being that historically, the "best" career Brewers starters list is pretty woof.
  6. We're working on a MUCH better way to do this but unfortunately, it's not ready yet. When we do our first update some time in May, a new system will be in place that allows you all to drag and drop names in the order you prefer then click submit. It's going to save all of us a ton of time and effort on these lists. But... it's time to start talking about the 2023 list despite that new feature not being ready for prime time quite yet. Here is the current list for reference: https://brewerfanatic.com/milwaukee-brewers-top-prospect-rankings/ We only care about the top 20 but feel free to go as deep as you want! I think we'll close voting on this on Sunday, February 12th. Thanks again, all!
  7. It's entirely possible it would take a massive guaranteed year. Maybe even that doesn't do it.
  8. I'd probably have to go with Sheets over Woodruff, maybe even Burnes. Sheets had the single season of dominance that Burnes had but also combined that with a longer track record of very good pitching than Woody has, at least so far.
  9. Oh, I think it's a long shot but it's the kind of outside-the-box thinking I'd like to see the Brewers at least try. If you guarantee Burnes a hefty payday in 2024 and 2025, it's insurance against arm/shoulder trouble. Maybe he brushes off the team immediately but it's not like it's an insulting offer. You're basically guaranteeing him over $30m with the team upside being you get him for $20-25m more for one season if he stays healthy.
  10. It probably makes his path a bit harder simply because the coaching staff isn't watching him warm up, take BP, field, etc. for a few weeks. That's how teams do most of their evaluation during spring training and not being there is a disadvantage.
  11. Yeah, an extension at this point in the game is really rare. The player is past the point of getting them for pennies on the dollar but still not close enough to free agency to demand a payday well in excess of $100m. The Brewers kinda screwed up by not getting one of the big three locked down last offseason before the stability of a new CBA sent MLB dollars into looney tunes land.
  12. A week or two ago, I floated an entirely absurd idea about Burnes that IMO, is worth throwing at the wall to see if it sticks. Offer to buy out his remaining arb seasons at a fair guaranteed rate, then offer a one year $35-40m option with something like a $15m buyout. The team gets one more year of Burnes to offset the difficulty of losing Burnes, Adames, and Woodruff in a single season while Burnes gets a guaranteed payday should something go horrifically wrong in the next 24 months.
  13. It's not about growing a thicker skin, it's about taking potshots at other users instead of addressing the point they're making. We addressed this with an entire thread a few weeks ago. Anyway, I'm not here to change your mind about the Rockies. I've said my piece and will move on.
  14. Welcome to Brewer Fanatic!
  15. This statement is objectively hilarious.
  16. To be fair to Taylor, he had a really nice 2022 season. I’m not a big fan of him being a starter but he accumulated 2.1 WAR in about 400 PAs.
  17. Iowa encapsulates everything wrong with baseball’s television situation. It’d be hilarious if it didn’t hurt so many fans who just want to watch baseball.
  18. Cut it out with the condescension. The Rockies already had Ryan McMahon, who they extended for five-ish years last offseason. I'm not the one "seeing what they want to see" here. The Rockies signed a third baseman in Bryant, then extended their current third basemen a week later, and put Bryant in left field. The Rockies stack nonsensical moves on top of each other. It's kind of "their thing". In isolation, any single move they make can be justified. Signing Bryant is fine. Extending McMahon was probably a pretty savvy move. But as a whole, their moves are pure chaos and not a reasonable way to build a baseball team, as evidenced by their constant losing.
  19. It's $15/mo or $100/season. If you're an Apple TV+ subscriber, it's $13/mo or $80/season. No blackouts, all games available to stream live or as an archived recording. This is what MLB.tv should have been a decade ago. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2023/02/apples-major-league-soccer-streaming-service-launches-today/
  20. Let me be the first to welcome Matt to the site. You're all going to love his detailed, thoughtful analysis of baseball.
  21. Who is playing left field. Which kinda summarizes the point a bunch of us are making about the Rockies.
  22. Huh. An interesting note about the 96th percentile arm. It will be interesting to see if that moves downward with more playing time.
  23. The good thing about Mitchell is that he should provide enough defensive value to stick around for 3-5 years depending on his offensive output. Every team and especially small market teams need those sub-$2m players back-filling a roster but still providing value. Mitchell may not be better than Taylor today but in the near future, he could provide similar value at a lower price point.
  24. Oh, for sure. Clearing 2.5-ish wins will often get a player in the top five or close to it. I'm just really down on Mitchell as a long-term starter. His defense could provide significant value but unless he finds a way to reel in his swing-and-miss stuff in a significant way, I don't see him getting an opportunity to grind out that defensive value.
  25. Yeah, as a mostly-DH, it's going to be really hard for Winker to get much over 2-2.5 WAR.
