  1. I see that you're right that MLB slots him in at #14; the only explanation I can think of is that they didn't realize how bad the Angels system was.
  2. He. . .Can't. . .Hit. If there was "significant" interest from other teams, it shows that other front offices are led by idiots. Where does he go into the organizational chart at CF? After Mitchell, Frelick, Ruiz, Taylor, Chourio. . . I think we have it covered. Again, I have no problem with signing guys as depth pieces for the minors, but I (obviously) have a huge problem signing guys to major league contracts if their track record shows they'll never become a major league player, barring divine intervention.
  3. He'd be a good call on a 1-year contract. But do you think they're willing to pay for him?
  4. When do we trade Wong and Hiura, and what do we get for them?
  5. I'm not sure of that. At least not to any appreciable extent. Alexander was elite (in the minors) at getting ground balls. What's Junk's calling card?
  6. He has to be on the 40 man now, right? If the front office doesn't have a better use for that slot now, they should. I'd have no problem signing him to a minor league contract, but there is absolutely nothing in his track record to justify a major league contract. I'm hoping that announcement was in error.
  7. He only has an intriguing ability to get walks in spite of not hitting well. If he were in our system, he'd be a guy no one would worry about losing. And 40-man slots have value.
  8. He has never hit above .255 in even a partial season, and his minor league career BA is .234. he has little power (his 15 HR in 2022 far exceeds his previous high). He strikes out a good bit in spite of his lack of power. It boggles the mind that they signed him to a major league contract.
  9. Except it burns a 40-man slot.
  10. You interpret those analyses, which I believe were written after the 2021 season, differently than I do. If one of them was similar to our Carlos Rodriguez--a prospect you can dream on--I'd feel better about the trade.
  11. I think our front office is cheap and that they do stupid things because of that.
  12. How on Earth can we assume that money WILL be spent on anything other than arbitration raises for players we currently have on the roster? If we sign Abreu, my view on this trade will change. Until that happens, I can only evaluate the trade in a vacuum.
  13. If they're thinking those guys are more than another Jason Alexander next year, I hope they've had a coach look at film and scream, "Eureka, I can fix that so easily." As crap thrown against the wall to see what sticks, yeah, that's reasonable (I think one of them can stick). As guys to count on, well, they just haven't earned that.
  14. There are already 2 other threads on the Renfroe trade. Mods?
  15. The BTV site is good for some things, but what I think they miss is the value of (some) guys going into their last arbitration year or last year of a contract. Acquiring a 2.7WAR player (in the case of Renfroe) can be the difference between making the playoffs or not. Getting such "rentals" is significant. I'd assert it's what we should be doing.
  16. I really don't get all the spin on this trade, which seems to be coming from people whose jobs depend on making it seem like management is making good decisions. It makes us worse now, with very limited future upside from the players we acquired. I don't see how anyone can come to a different conclusion. The only potential benefit is giving playing time to a rookie, and that's a dice roll about whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.
  17. I'm willing to bet analytics would suggest otherwise. A HR is the best thing you can do at the plate. I didn't say they would be consistently bad; what I said is if they're consistently anything, they'd be consistently bad. I'd expect inconsistency from rookies. Added in edit: Did you know that Renfroe never had a monthly OPS under .740 during 2022? If we wanted consistency, we traded it away.
  18. the operative word was "career." None of them have had a ML career. The minimum I'd consider a career would be over 3 years of service time, and that is probably too generous. They got time in the majors for one of the worst-run teams in MLB.
  19. I think he was suggesting Yelich will be a part time outfielder and most-or-half of the time DH,, not that he will sit 100 games.
  20. so you think the cure for inconsistency is playing a bunch of rookies? If they're consistent, they will be consistently bad.
  21. Moneyball--find the undervalued resources. But I don't think this is it.
  22. I greatly dislike this trade. The only upside is it will give ABs to one of our rookie OFs. One of the 3 guys might make it as a reliever; I'd bet the other two never have a ML career. They could surprise me by signing someone who is more expensive and better. Makes us worse. If they make trades to make us worse, they should move Burnes, Woodruff, and Adames.
  23. I can't see them demoting Chourio, even if he didn't do well at AA. For some of these guys the decision will be based on other guys in the organization who were at higher levels. I might put Abner in AZ; he's gotta be on a serious innings limit after only getting 3IP this year (and another 10+ this fall/winter).
  24. seem to be giving the other team an unfair advantage by not having a 2B. :-)
  25. I don't see it. He didn't even strike out a lot of guys in 2022 (though he did so in 2021, but still with mediocre results). Maybe there's something they can fix.
