  1. JJ has been freaking Houdini this year. Put him in an impossible situation with no way to get out, and he still manages to escape unharmed.
  2. Given that he has 39 K's that means that only 2 out of 41 batters that got 2 strikes on them even managed to put the ball in play. He's given up 4 hits and 5 walks, so at the moment the best strategy for batters facing Hader might be to give up and stand there with the bat on the shoulder and hope he misses.
  3. It's unfortunate that he couldn't get his first hit in this stint, but his defense, especially blocking, looks solid.
  4. Brewers are doing well and will add an all-star closer soon and a TOR pitcher around the break, without losing a single prospect.
  5. I wonder if the Brewers are considering doing to their pen what the Dodgers did with their starters last year - creative use of the 10 day DL to give them some rest and have the effect of a 11 or 12-man pen.
  6. Guerra has had trouble going past 5 innings, but those first 5 have been outstanding. Chacin has been better the last 2 starts, and Davies has had 2 good and 2 terrible starts. Only Suter is a candidate for some sort of demotion at this point, and that might happen when Miley's ready.
  7. Sad news, but he lived 73 years and spent most of them around the game he loved. Tommororw's broadcast is going to feel more like a 10 game losing streak instead of a 6 game winning streak.
  8. We may see him up sooner rather than later, unfortunately.
  9. I'd say the Marlins were impersonating a little league team, but that's was bad even for them.
  10. That ball was hit so hard it knocked the outfielder over.
  11. And Arcia gets into one. I hope Tazawa pitches in at least one more game this series.
  12. Obliques have a nasty habit of reoccurring, so a few extra days getting him fully healed is the right choice. They may also be waiting for winter to be over, so he has a better chance of staying loose. If that's the case he'll hopefully be back by June.
  13. A week in and nobody is showing up for the White Sox: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2769847-report-974-fans-attended-rays-vs-white-sox-game-at-guaranteed-rate-field?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial The Northwoods league gets bigger crowds.
  14. I'm more concerned with the other leg. Kicking Martinez threw off his stride and his left knee buckled a bit. I hope he's ok. It would suck to lose both the big acquisitions in two weeks.
  15. There are a lot of comments here about the Brewers line-ups along the lines of 'why is Sogard in there' or 'Arcia should be in every day', etc. The comments of Nick Williams shows the importance of giving the backups enough work. Managing by analytics may in theory give a better chance of winning a game, but managing the people will make a difference over the season.
  16. Given the depressed market for corner power hitters this off season and given the Coors factor and his age, I'd call that a really good contract for him.
  17. Nice job by Villar to drop a drag bunt after the Pina HR.
  18. 1-2-3 first for Davies at home. This season keeps looking better and better.
  19. They are all pretty much small sample size, if you are talking individuals instead of more generic lefty-righty match-ups. Still it is possible that it gets in the players heads, and maybe in a few cases a batter just sees a pitcher better or worse.
  20. After 4 games the Giants have as many wins as they do runs (2).
  21. Since there's no IGT for Easter Sunday, anyone watching the A's-Angles? Watching Ohtani I see why teams were intrigued and willing to pony up the posting fee (100mph fastball, curves in the low 80's), but his location isn't that great. It looks like he's hanging at least one curve to each batter. I'd almost think of going up and looking for it and not worrying about the heat.
  22. Seemed to have an impact today. Quintana was smacked for 5 in the 5th (after no hits through 4) and then trotted out to give up another in the 6th.
