  1. The Pirates are .500 against teams not named the Brewers. Cincy and St. Louis will undoubtedly be playing better as the season rolls along. Hopefully the slow start can continue through next week for those two.
  2. I didn't think that many of us were upset about Francisco being release, although there wasn't a lot of enthusiasm for O. Francisco has an MLB bat and looks great when he's on a hot streak, but his little league glove (and I'm talking 8-10 year old's, not LLWS age) was just too much to take for an NL team. Also I though Balfor wasn't a flat out release, he was DFA'd and traded to Tampa for Seth McClung.
  3. They can call someone up, it's no different than Braun's suspension last year. The player does have to be on the 40-man roster. If the player index is correct, there are no spots open and no other catchers on it.
  4. The chart and numbers are skewed by having one game require 8 innings from the pen, because it went 14. The Brewers are generally getting 6+ innings out of their starters. Not great, but solid. They could use an 8-9 inning outing tonight just to balance things. It would be nice to get more out of Wang, but the outing vs the Pirates was not encouraging. He will still need to be in a mop-up role for a while, or come down with 'shoulder tightness'.
  5. I'm not a big fan of batters watching, but that is where the league has gone. It does look a little dumb when the ball doesn't go out, although he was claiming he thought it would be an out. The big problem is Gomez's reaction to what the pitcher said, especially if the pitcher's post game comments were an accurate description. Thanks to Gomez's reaction, both he and Maldonado are likely to be suspended for multiple games. When his antics hurt the team, they have to be stopped.
  6. Wang had his debut, so the butterflies won't be so bad next time. He knows he can get MLB batters out, so now they don't have to baby him quite so much. Let him pitch when they are with in +/- 3 runs for the next month, that should provide a opportunity for a fair number of innings.
  7. Two real problems that were shown on the MLB network are the dropping the ball on transferring it to throw now is being not ruled an out, and eliminating the swipe tag on sliding runners. The first just makes no sense whatsoever, the out is on the catch and drops on transferring the ball to the throwing hand shouldn't negate that. The second gets the calls correct, but increases the chance at injury. Replay should get calls correct, but should not change the game, and unfortunately it is.
  8. Has his picture started showing up on milk cartons in the Milwaukee area yet? From RRR's quotes, it sounds like he will only go in during a blow-out loss. So I guess it's the rest of the team's fault for playing too well.
  9. Maybe this deserves it's own thread, but the Braves are un-American: http://i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--z9Qr4hEg--/c_fit,fl_progressive,w_636/id25gncpaszeoocahkkq.jpg Yep they torched the American flag for their home opener.
  10. Roenicke made the right call for the closer. Something does have to give, though, because he can't manage a team with two untrustworthy arms in the bullpen. Wang has to get into a game and Henderson has to get it going. I still think Wang will do well, but the more he sits, the more nerves he will have once he finally gets in there. I hope he gets in there to start the 7th tomorrow.
  11. Well the article you linked to says why: Surgery isn't like fixing a car. Even if you fix the initial problem, the impact of slicing up flesh, especially in a highly mobile part of the body can easily have long term or permanent consequences.
  12. Slightly off topic, but West is the one running the replay command center in New York. I don't think he's on the field anymore. Joe won't let that stop him: "After the review the base runner has been ejected ... and ruled safe."
  13. Any ejection would stand, however the first reaction by players will be to get the manager out to challenge the call. Think how football players call for their coaches to throw the challenge flag. Players know there is an option so things should be more civil with fewer ejections.
  14. Yo sounded a little shaky, but no damage. Did he look off on TV? Ack! Go-Go, no first outs on 3rd.
  15. I like the adding an isotope test to random samples. That should help get the ones using masking agents. Having a source of clean supplements is a smart change as well.
  16. Besides from watching games, if you look at the game logs for Yuni from last year, you will see a number of ph-1b or just 1b with only 1-2 innings. Both of those substitutions were cases where he came in for Juan at the end of games last year. Yuni B was a defensive replacement for Francisco.
  17. Did this happen? It sounds like the way history is written. It happened about a dozen times from mid-August to early September, after which Francisco didn't play much. Basically from the time where they had just had it with Francisco's defense to the time where they totally gave up on him.
  18. Francisco was regularly replaced in later innings by Yuni B, because Yuni was a much much better defender. Reynolds and O may not be anything special, but nothing special is a sizable upgrade over last year.
  19. This is a good point. The pressure is on Duke - not on Wang. Regarding trading for Wang - I think it's a possibility. The reason is that if we elect to let Wang go, he goes on waivers. He's not just sent back to Pittsburgh. With his success this spring, I believe some other team would likely claim him and stash him on their major league roster for 2014. I don't think a team like Houston or the Cubs would have any problem taking the guy. They aren't going to win in 2014, so why not give up a roster spot in 2014 for the guy. Thus, Pittsburgh knows Wang is not likely to clear waivers. So they might be willing to work a trade with Milwaukee so they end up with something. Of course, Pittsburgh could just say no to a trade to deny a division rival a nice prospect, but if they can get something of value, why not. And they can't control who claims him. In their minds, letting him go to the Cubs would likely be worse than Milwaukee getting him. So, a trade may happen in that scenario. What he would be worth is another debate. No, we have to offer him back to Pittsburgh for $50000. No other team will get a shot. They would only accept a trade that is better for them than keeping Wang. I'm not sure if he would have to be on Pittsburgh's 40 man roster if they take him back.
  20. Even the "pitcher's helmet" wouldn't make a difference when the ball hits under the hat area. There just isn't time to move.
  21. I'm waiting for a guy to tweak a hammy. No a muscle pull, but a bitten finger from his kid's pet hamster.
  22. I guess they don't call it the cactus league for nothing: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/249837271.html I think we need a pool for what the next wild and wacky injury will be.
  23. Record: 75-87 All Stars: Gomez Biggest Surprise: Wang - just by sticking Biggest Disappointment: Braun - hand is re-injured hitting on a cold April night and is shut down by July. Playoffs: Only for players sold off in July. Place in Division: 4th (late useless surge puts them ahead of the Cubs and higher in the draft)
  24. 290/350/490 17 Hr 65 RBI (95 games) The padding to protect the thumb will affect his numbers, and the thumb itself will flare up again. It's not 100% after all this time off and won't hold up. So goes life for the Brewers and their fans.
