  1. It's also possible that the concussions in the NFL are less severe because of the better helmets. They are larger with more cushioning, and while they clearly don't stop concussions, they could be providing just enough of a reduction of the impact to reduce the severity.
  2. One more team with a huge income to price free agents out of the Brewers' range. MLB needs to start fully sharing local TV revenue. That's about the only hope for a competitive future in Baseball.
  3. We need to start working on genetically engineering ash trees to make better bats - harder, lighter and less likely to break. Although that may somehow fall under the PED policy.
  4. Besides, if Zambrano was at the plate, the clarification would be needed. Didn't Rick Helling get speared a couple of years ago as well? I think MLB is going to have to make some rule changes to reduce the number of shattered bats. My guess would be that they will increase the thickness of the handles, and possibly ban the maple bats.
  5. It's musical chairs, but everyone gets a chance to keep their chairs, so the Brewers get stuck with the ones with broken legs and whoopee cushions. I think the stadiums are bad enough that they give other teams leverage with the big league clubs - "Hey club X, re-sign with us, or you might get stuck in Huntsville / Nashville."
  6. A base criteria should be 10 years for the Brewers and HOF level play. Adjusting for special circumstances, but not too far from that. Sheets was no where near either. Short career, no major awards, no World Series (he didn't even get 1 playoff appearance). There's only so many numbers, and you can't retire them for everyone who had a good couple of years.
  7. He's on the 40, so they can't test him for pot anymore. The Brewers need him to start if he can. They have a good young cheap closer, so they don't need to waste Jefress in a set up role. A flame throwing starter with a good curve and control would be a big help. As long as he can stay focused on the right things, I want him to be a starter at AAA for a couple of months and then get called up.
  8. Like the Pirates and DBacks ones. The best ones are the teams doing poorly.
  9. Looks like the Brewers got a better return for 2 months worth of an ailing and aging Edmonds than they did for JJ in the off season. Can't ask for much more out of a trade like this.
  10. The season itself is a disappointment, but if they show signs of real hope for next season it will at least take some of the sting off. The "Wait 'till next year" cry only works if there is some chance next year. Signs of hope: 1) Good pitching by the Narvason, Parra, and anyone called up. 2) Hart, Weeks and Braun playing well. 3) Cain, Gamel, Escobar, and Lucroy looking like they should and will be in the lineup for years to come (and not by default).
  11. Cain was out of the lineup last night in Nashville, so the decision was likely made yesterday and just announced today.Sounds like they waited for Cain to show up before making the move official. No sense giving him a day of ML time/pay if the flights are delayed.
  12. From JSOnline Hopefully he will get a little more of a chance to show his stuff, even if he won't keep up the .600 average.
  13. A variation on this that would not get an automatic and long suspension would be to walk (sliders in the dirt won't look to obvious) the guy and throw to first a lot, with Prince doing a hard swipe on the guy's face instead of on his hands. A few of those might drive the point home.
  14. Perhaps Prince and the other Brewers should just charge the mound the next time he is hit. If word is out that if you hit the Brewers with a pitch, you get hit with a fist, pitchers might think twice.
  15. I think what is going on is that MLB is threatening to pull the franchise from the current ownership, which would kill the value of the Rangers for any auction. MLB could then potentially re-issue the franchise to whatever owners group they want, including putting in the same location. I don't know what would happen to the players, though. They might become FA's at all levels and the new Rangers would have to start from scratch.
  16. The current boards are wearing out. In the game I went to last month, the color board had streaks that were off color, and the B/W board had constant graphics glitches. As long as the existing board is going to be replaced, they may as well put in something top-notch. If only getting a rotation that looks good were as easy.
  17. Is that usually very difficult? I set mine up several years ago and haven't had to think about it since except to dig out the password when I add a new computer. Maybe mine is low tech or something but it seemed easier than setting up a wired network because I didn't have to run any cables around the house to the various computers. It can be a problem. My router will stop working every few and need to be reset by pulling the power cord. I've heard reports of other routers needing to be reset regularly. As for computer types, Asus (not Acer), Toshiba and Sony have the best reliability. Since you have an Asus, start with them. Just expect a lot of stupid questions and hard to diagnose problems (because they will never tell you what you really need to know to solve the problem).
  18. Since the Brewers have the rights to him for the moment, is there anyway they can sign him to a nominal contract for the purpose of retain the rights to him? Possibly with some sort of bonus if he decides to choose baseball and is medically cleared. I'm not sure what rules would apply in this case.
  19. There's a picture of the accident here: Crash picture at PFT He was going pretty fast when he hit that pole, and is lucky to be alive.
  20. Oh well, 5 1/3 perfect is a good start to a game. Keep the shutout going.
  21. Fill and send forms to say you will fight it. The initial date will not be a trial, but you will get a quick plea from the DA, likely reduced one level below the level of the ticket. Just take it, it's not worth trying to take it all the way to a trial.
  22. Cooper and Money hitting grand slams in the same inning. All 5 home post season wins in 82 (my sister went to the WS game 3 that the Brewers lost). Hank Aaron night.
  23. Getting back to the original thread, does anyone think that Eveland would be worth signing to a AAA contract to replace Cappy/Loe? It might provide a little backup and give him a chance to right himself.
  24. If he gets it over the plate, the Brewers should sign him.
  25. As long as there is another long man in the pen, it's worth it to give the 1 inning guys a rest. Parra would have also picked up a save, which looks nice when you can't get much else in the way of positive stats as a long guy.
