Thing is, you have to give up runner(s) either in the 1st OR the 9th, then nothing else. Burnes/Hader no-hitter, I believe the one baserunner was in the 7th. I seriously doubt they ever retired 26 in a row.

I'm suspecting a franchise first tonight. I doubt Brewer pitchers have ever retired 26 hitters in a row in one game.

Wondering if there was a sit-down with Yelich & he said he'd rather stay in leadoff. Of course that would assume they wanted to move him down a couple spots in the first place, which is a big assumption. Frelick HAS shown a propensity to drive in runs. But yeah, leadoff would be a nice spot for him.

That fits the overall philosophy, but doesn't fit what CC said after the acquisition of Canha. It's strange. I think CC is just feeling around for a combination & has a few more options w/the trades, Andersons' return & Taylor shoe-horning his way into the picture. You'd like it to be a little more settled in early August but it is what it is.

Canha is probably best off DHing or playing LF when Yelich DH's. Other than that he does give them some of the flexibility they like as evidenced by Saturdays' game. Also, Taylor has hit a few balls on the screws, which CC might not have bargained for & the resulting PT for Taylor bites into Canhas' presumed role.

This. I totally get the roster rule change as being allowed to go up to 40 was ridiculous. But I hate putting the cap at 28. Would much rather see thirty. I feel it would take an OF injury epidemic (2 or 3 guys) for Chourio to see Milwaukee this year.

Yep, me too. I also would've had Perkins in Nashville. Not only the speed, but the overall baserunning abilities he's shown (outside of the hiccups when he had his pickoff-itis last month) has been a difference maker. It's also funny to see how quickly some clear out of the thread when the team finds a way to win despite a lackluster offensive performance. It's as if the late heroics were akin to someone setting off a cyber stinkbomb.😄

Looking at the total package, I think Adames could be a SS that you can win a championship with. But it has to be a lineup strong enough that you can hit him 7th or even 8th to more easily absorb the ugly stretches, because boy, are they UGLY. Since adding Frelick, Santana & Canha Counsell could drop him down a couple spots if he chose to, but he prefers to bank on one of those hot stretches being just around the bend. I see some indecision from Willy along with the ever-present chasing so I'm not optimistic. But when it has happened in the past it can come out of the blue. Like Jake said, maybe there's some bad luck involved. So I'm in "hoping, but not holding my breath" mode.

Wouldn't dismiss the possibility, his bat is absolutely scorching. But his glovework is very, very raw.

He could leapfrog to Wisconsin a la Wilkin, but my guess is he goes to Carolina soon, with one of the deserving souls in the 'Cat INF getting a taste of high-A.

There's a college basketball line about how around the start of February freshmen "aren't freshmen any more". Been thinking about that regarding Turang & Wiemer. Not just the combined 5 hits last night, but the quality their ABs in the last week or two look better to me. With Yelich leading off it would be huge if those two can get on base for him in addition to cleaning up some runners themselves. I hated CC hitting Frelick 4th, 5th. But the man's driving in runs. Gotta roll with it. Hopefully Canha gets some stuff to fall soon. His ABs haven't been THAT bad for him to be oh-for-Milwaukee.

Wes Clarke has always interested me. Ks SOOOO much. Walks SOOOO much. Usually around the .200 mark. And the HR binges. Sort of a minor league RH version of Max Muncy. I don't think it'll be here but I believe he'll get a chance on someones' roster someday. Among the talent at low-A Jace Avina seems to fly under the radar a little. Again, the Ks. But 26 HRs in what amounts to roughly a full seasons' worth in his short career. And he takes his walks, too.

Yeah, it's obviously become an afterthought. Tells you what I think of analytics. There are situations where it can be greatly beneficial. Of course, it depends on the situation & who's at the plate. Glad you brought up Mitchell, he can greatly benefit from it. In his brief MLB career he's done precious little to take advantage of maybe his greatest asset. As far as the guy who thought up the T-shirt.........I never realized hitting a home run was simply a conscious decision to do so. Oh, the years I wasted...........😛

Could be the only time in his life he isn't all tingly about receiving attention. FWIW I think it's probably a nothingburger.

It's a concern because they both saw the field quite a bit, and Longo likes using his TEs. They moved Riley Nowakowski, a former FB, to TE. They also have Hayden Rucci & Cole Dakovich, who saw the field some. Keep an eye on RS freshman JT Seagraves. He played in only one game last year, but it was the bowl game & they threw to him a time or two. Wish I lived a little closer to Platteville. I suspect this is an interesting camp.

Baez, my goodness. Averaging over an RBI per game, hitting just under .400. The man doesn't walk, which almost always translates into an ugly K rate at that level, yet his K total is paltry. He just turned 18 a month or 2 ago & we all know about the defensive ?s, but it has to be tempting to think about giving him at least a little taste of Carolina at some point. Great debut for Pratt. You'd hafta think Boeve & Wilkin are on the cusp of getting a taste of full-season ball.

I'm trying to think of any infielders who regularly throw with a 12-to-6 motion to first base. Hell, most OFs don't. I don't think Adames hitting .300 is out of the question, but it doesn't excite me much as I'm not a fan of the Albuquerque Isotopes.

I love the squeeze, and bunts for base hits in general. But in order to do it you have to be capable of it. That's a small list. And players don't have the incentive to work on it. Developing a skill so you have it in your hip pocket for just the right situation is dwarfed by spending an off-season increasing your launch angle.

Very well said. If the above names (plus a few others) & the acquisitions play up to their norm---not above it, just to their norm---they'd be fine. Whether or not that happens is anyones' guess. But there was nothing wrong with any of these moves. Even picking up Chafin. I wasn't down with the annual "add a BP arm" move this year, but J Wilson finally gets back then hurts himself warming up, so I don't blame them.

After seeing the cost for Pham, I'd like to know what it would've taken to land him. Like you said, I think they definitely put a priority on OF over 3B, with Frelick only playing vs LHP.

Brandon Woodruff should be the poster child for the 7-inning+ start, and his absence has hurt immeasurably regarding the 'pen. Throw in Burnes being spotty (compared to what people have come to expect) regarding length. Lauer would do it once in a blue moon or so, and he's been gone, too, and not effective when he was here. It's why I'd like to see Houser joining Wilson in basically the same role, if they can finagle it.

With the encouraging way we've handled recent drafts, the extra pick(s) would be another superior alternative. It'll depend on what they hear from other teams this winter, but it's an option.
