Gasser gets my nod over Uribe simply by being a starter, I could go back & forth all day there. Big fan of Adams. I hope Eric Brown can enjoy sustained health as I feel he has a lot more to give (although I'm concerned a bit about his setup as are some others). Wouldn't be surprised if Zamora opens some eyes in AAA next year.
  2. I thought of Blackmon but didn't know when he was supposed to return. If soon, yeah, add him to the list.
  3. McMahon Ks a little too much for my liking but walks a lot which somewhat offsets that. He certainly has the versatility they like. He'd be a definite upgrade to the INF. I just don't know why Colorado would deal him, but we are talking Colorado here. At the end of the day it would probably have to be an overpay due to the years of control. Cron or Grichuk makes more sense.
  4. I think Adams is quite intriguing. I've liked Devanney for a while now but looks more & more like he's someone you can't pigeonhole into one spot going forward. The big question re Wilkin & Boeve IMO is which one of them eventually moves to 1B?
  5. Definitely a little more history of them doing it with pitchers. Jeff D'Amico skipped AAA as well.
  6. This was raised as a possibility recently, and I think there may be some merit to it. Having said that I doubt I would be happy with any deal they made right now involving Black.
  7. Billy Jo Robidoux played in a combined 74 games with Milwaukee before ever seeing AAA. That was almost 40 years ago. So yeah, definitely not something they're inclined to do.
  8. This is pretty close to what I think will happen. I suspect they've been talking to teams about 1B-DH types, maybe even OFs, and one would think those talks have been ramped up some after the Tellez news. They'll let that pot boil for the remainder of the month before doing something like promoting Black. And if they do I believe it'll primarily be for the DH spot. Some won't like reading this but Anderson has been mostly terrific at 3B & they value that greatly.
  9. Lets take a look at two recent trades to shore up the offense. When they acquired Adames, he was a regular at TB but was blocking one of the top prospects in baseball. Tellez was a former starter (or semi-regular) who was relegated to the minors largely due to being passed up by Vlad JR. While I follow the Brewers' system closely I'm not as attuned to other teams' prospects as I once was. Any vets pushed out (or about to be) by a phenom? That might be a list to scour. It also most likely would be someone that wouldn't cost one of your better prospects, which rightfully is important to Arnold.
  10. That's pretty ambitious. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out, especially his getting a chance to work with Jef Quero.
  11. He is, and we would. It's just hilarious to watch the national media stumble onto the latest shiny thing, react to it, create an agenda, then cling onto it for dear life. I actually tried watching some of the Sunday night game tonight, but had to give up when it was overlaid by three hours of Ohtanitalk. Shades of Duke & Zion Williamson.
  12. Look for Uribe to be used today. It's been a bit over a week since he's seen action, and in this stage of his development you need him to get regular work. I'm trying to wrap my brain around an image of Rowdy Tellez shagging balls in the OF.
  13. From now on, I highly question the accuracy of MiLB.com. In the box score for Nashville last night it showed Keston Hiura with an OF assist. I refuse to believe this.
  14. I was an advocate for Drury last deadline, but not so much now. On paper he'd give you better production at 3B than BA but probably not as good defense & we all know how that's valued. As you pointed out the BB to K ratio is pretty ugly & that's something they're trying to move away from. I think if acquired he'd largely DH & play 2B for 6-7 innings vs LHP while CC hopes they can get the lead so he can go with Turang. Maybe if he comes real cheap, but I don't see it.
  15. What I get particular enjoyment out of, is De La Cruz puts on the three-ring, three-steal circus last Saturday, and since then: Donuts. For twenty-seven innings. Pitching isn't like playing linebacker or power forward, where you can get pissed off & just annihilate people. But maybe a little embarrassment, which turned to anger, which turned to resolve. Whatever it is, it's fun to watch.
  16. Oh, I believe it (if you're talking about the immediate 6-7 days after the deal). I just think there was no excuse for it.
  17. I think under this administration (and the last one, too) run prevention will always be huge, even if we have an offensive juggernaut someday. Keeping pitchers in low-stress situations, keeping pitch counts as tidy as possible, wanting to keep pitchers healthy.........I think all that stuff is tied in to the run prevention mantra. Agree 100% about Black & 1B. If he does what many project him to do, I have zero concern about not having a big HR guy at a "power" position. As long as his hands are good, and having played a lot of INF I'm sure they are, that may be in the cards for him down the road.
  18. I see the K-to-walk ratio from Black and really, really hope he stays here. The guy just puts up terrific ABs from the neck-up. But we all know how run prevention is valued here, and how well it's paid off so yeah, it wouldn't surprise me. But if he goes somewhere for a reliever & the company line is "Well, gee, (said reliever) has 2+ years of control" my head will explode.
  19. Let's remember last year. After the smoke cleared from the trade deadline (August 2nd) & their deals were (or weren't) finalized, that's when there were some decisions made at the AA & AAA level. Wiemer & Frelick were promoted to Nashville at that point. They may be waiting to see what happens acquisition-wise in the next couple weeks. Not disagreeing with you, I wouldn't mind seeing Black promoted. Just speculating as to why he hasn't been.
  20. Thing about Wiemer, if he can make more consistent contact as he gains experience, he can beat out a heck of a lot of swinging bunts & topped grounders---balls you just barely get a bat on---that he's missing now. He's that fast. Then you factor in the power, and I'm glad he's on our side.
  21. Unless Mitchell proves he can correct the tendency to strike out 5-6 times for every time he walks, his elite speed will be largely wasted. Just get the K rate to the MLB average & he's some kinda weapon. Until then I'd actually put him 4th on the above list. You also have to wonder if he can stay healthy.
  22. Nah, the points I made above regarding Ed, I think the NU administration sees the same potential issues & therefore wouldn't be all that interested. And the age would be a factor as well. I agree the man certainly has proven he can coach.
  23. Orgeron is (I think) in his 60s. He's mostly made his mark coaching (as a HC) in the SEC. He'd have to acclimate to a tougher academic environment at NU. Always been regarded as a solid recruiter, but I don't know how successful he'd be going after the kids he'd have to target if he were in Evanston. He's certainly had a successful career. I just don't see NU as a good fit, for either party.
  24. Leonhard would be a great hire for them for many reasons, not the least of which is they're most likely going to be in "starting over" mode which would fit him nicely. I've also heard Ed Orgeron mentioned, which reminds me of when Sam Rutigliano was mentioned for the UW job decades ago in that I think the rumor is coming from one side only---Orgerons'. I'd love to see NU seriously consider Ed, but I'm pretty sure they're too smart for that.
