  1. Cam fan here. Don't know how close anyone came to taking a flyer on him, but I was relieved when he didn't get plucked in rule 5. He can defend at a high level, has versatility & can swing the bat, particularly vs LHP. That makes him a poster boy for this FO. That said I'm not that surprised they're leaning towards others who have a little more under their belts experience-wise. I think the day comes when we're happy he's here.
  2. Yes, they are expected to. And they usually do. Like I said, he knew it was a gamble when he sent him. But one slip up in the chain of sequence & that 20 feet (it was probably less) can be covered in a second. Throw in the two outs & the next hitter, and it was understandable. One or no outs, or someone on deck who hadn't looked lost all series, then yeah, terrible.
  3. Hiura pulled from the game after 3 ABs tonight for Nashville. ?????
  4. I can guarantee you two things: A) Jason Lane knew, as the play was unfolding, that the odds were that Monasterio was getting thrown out. B) He also knew that there were two out, and Jahmai Jones, who had struck out all four trips this series, was the next hitter. Given that knowledge, he went with the chance of a clean pickup, good throw, clean catch, another good throw, and a clean catch & tag might somewhere along the line get botched. Was it going to happen? probably not. But under the circumstances he made the right call IMO. I'm sure a lot of fans agree with you, just understand the stuff that goes into a decision like that.
  5. I was thinking the same thing, if it got to Monasterio. But apparently he's faced Diaz twice & never been retired. So I was OK with it.
  6. It wasn't a PH appearance. He entered the game when Jones was lifted. Only INF on the bench.
  7. One final pregame thought.........I get the decision to play J Jones tonight but I'm very concerned about him at 2B.
  8. So Bielema has three, count 'em, three people on his staff who once roamed the UW defensive backfield. He's certainly got that program headed in the right direction so it isn't a bad gig. But given the status Leonhard attained when here I thought his eventual landing spot would be a little more lofty. It appears staying in the midwestern footprint is important to Jim. Too bad for Northwestern they're in a state of flux right now. I think that would've been a great match.
  9. Has there been any scuttlebutt about McMahon being available? Not sure why Colorado would look to deal him, unless you offer a starter they really, really like. I wouldn't feel comfortable including Gasser, but feel that might be what it takes. He DOES fit the roster pretty well, although I hate the K rate. At the end of the day, what I suspect it would take to pry him loose is probably too rich for my blood.
  10. If like I speculated above Frelick was sitting, I thought TT would be in there either at DH or RF. But even though it's a lefty throwing I don't think Abbott is all that good a matchup for him. I suppose Toro would be a better fit, at least until several shoes drop in the next week (potentially).
  11. OK, so I was wondering if Frelick was sitting today vs the LH, and how much wailing & gnashing of teeth there would be if he was. Let the fun begin (?). It makes for one interesting batting order, I'll say that. Even more so than normal lol.
  12. Agree re the young INF. I would include Lara (theoretically), but certainly would need something substantial back if he's included. I don't think anyone would be willing to offer somebody that would incline me to deal Adams.
  13. That's a really valid point. I have no inclination to trade anyone on the above list. As I mentioned in another thread, I think if we deal some of the more attractive talent in the system this week it'll come from people in Carolina not named Luke Adams. Guilarte, Avina, Areinamo, Lara. We'll find out soon enough.
  14. I was referring to if he stayed at 2B & put up similar numbers.
  15. I see where O'Rae, in 33 games, has 25 SB & has only been caught twice. I'm sure part of that is that the rudiments of holding runners and catch & throw mechanics aren't there yet from a lot of those kids, but still............
  16. With the other things he brings to the table, I'd be thrilled with that. Not saying it can't happen. But if he hits two-eighty- something up here with almost 80 RBI, takes his walks & only gets thrown out twice all year stealing along with fielding his position the way he does, he's probably an all-star.
  17. ...........And the vast majority of the time w/o the runner on 2nd also.
  18. No, you aren't. But there are some on here who seemed to want to do that, I was addressing that larger point.
  19. I still believe he's going to be more than a good enough hitter to justify having him on the field when you factor in the glove, the speed, the baserunning. Considering his career path when moving from one level to the next, I strongly feel that labeling him at this point is premature.
  20. Random thoughts....... I think one of our hitting coaches needs to explain to Willy Adames the importance of making sure you take your brain with you before you step into the box. Rea continues to be a real unsung hero. Forget the #s with RISP. Zone in closer. Three innings in a row, Ks with a runner on 3rd & one out. And that's early in the game, not ultra-high pressure. This team gets into situations & presses. I know that sounds like an excuse. I know they aren't a good offensive team. But you can be a bad offensive team, and still press. Sal Frelick, in (I think) 12 MLB PAs, has struck out once. Of course it comes with the runner on 3rd & one out. Welcome to the club.😄 But obviously he's gotten off to a terrific start.
  21. I keep expecting Luke to start seeing more & more time at 1B. But with the athleticism & arm, it really makes sense to see if he can stick at third. To Wisconsin---Adams or Wilkin? That's a pretty tough call.
  22. That type of deadline move is a rarer bird, but I was thinking the same thing recently. I just don't know what kind of an upgrade you can achieve offensively w/o dealing a prospect that I wouldn't want to deal. IIRC the A's & Red Sox did something similar a few years ago? I'm starting to think that if we deal any substantial prospects in the next week it might come from the position-player group at Carolina not named Luke Adams (Areinamo, Guilarte, Avina, Lara). There's some positional depth at those spots.
  23. Because as was pointed out earlier there isn't much starting pitching in the upper levels of the system, and unless you want to include Misiorowski who just arrived in Biloxi these are your two best. It's just how I value starting pitching, especially for a franchise that isn't all that well-equipped to go out & buy it.
  24. I'd never rule out picking up another reliever because that's what we do. But I'd rather we didn't due to the eventual additions Sveum & wiguy alluded to. I mean, we could use a bat or two, but I'm not even trading Gasser or Rodriguez for a bat unless it's one with a lot of team control.
