  1. That's my point. "Scalded on Friday for mismanaging the pen" insinuates he was accused of mismanaging on Friday. If you didn't mean that, apologies.
  2. He didn't mismanage the bullpen Friday night. He did what he could with the hand he dealt himself. He certainly deserves credit today because I think he did indeed "set up" the matchup. If he felt Ross wouldn't make a change he much more likely goes to Tellez rather than Winker.
  3. I always liked the L flag that covered like a whole section of the upper deck.
  4. Just think. If Ross hadn't gone to the lefty in the 7th, it would've been Winker hitting the 3-run double.😁 Seriously, how great must it feel to join a team, not have time to really get comfortable, and then do what Jones did. Welcome to Milwaukee, indeed.
  5. I'll be interested in seeing how aggressive they are with Lara. Love those guys who don't strike out AND draw walks. Despite being 18, I'd think at least a taste of A+ before the season ends, no?
  6. Since he's off-hand from most of the starters, I agree Pannone seemed like a decent long man candidate. I expected him to stick around at least until/if Justin Wilson makes it to Milwaukee. Hard to say what their plans are for Gasser, except that if everyone in the rotation stays healthy and effective I don't think his arrival is imminent. Maybe if the clock strikes twelve for Teheran?
  7. Looks more & more like the trade was a win. I didn't know (or forgot) that Payamps has 3 yrs of control. That tilts the scales even more. After they acquired Ruiz last season & he proceeded to do impressive things in N'ville it was obvious one of the 4 young OFs was going to be dealt. Mitchell may have ongoing health issues & really needs to clean up the Ks, but for now I couldn't be happier with that 3-corner trade. A+. I think the bullpen fatigue issues would still be here had we never made the deal. I don't like the 6-man rotation because with the constant 5-6 inning starts it hurts to be one guy short in the pen. But if it leads to a little more fresher/effective starts in the dog days so be it.
  8. Sounds good, but let's focus first on the guys coming to town before them.
  9. Interesting that Pittsburgh ambushed in the 2nd inning, but not from the get-go, then tried doing it a little later w/o success. Rae mostly stayed a step ahead of them & deserves a lot of credit. A rare nugget from BA & Rottino, pointing out the speed & contact factor regarding Turangs' AB in the eighth. Sometimes your opponent screws up. It can't happen if you don't put the ball in play, and it usually doesn't happen if you can't put pressure on the play with speed. That was a play that seems to happen to the other guys' benefit much more than ours. Putting a 2-strike pitch in play paid off. The first game since Turang's return where he didn't swing the bat very well; but the athleticism makes a difference. Just like the game in Milwaukee, liked the approach vs Hill. Taking a lot of his pitches is gonna result in some called 3rds. But you can't afford to let him get comfortable & after the first couple innings he never did.
  10. Had he been re-upped this board might've ceased to exist due to the # of posters dying from conniption fits.
  11. Just a quick shoutout to the recent RF play. Perkins has contributed more than probably any of us thought, and Tapias' ABs have looked considerably better the last two days. Will they still look to upgrade? Yes. But there's been some production there. It also puts Anderson primarily at 3B. The ugly bottom of the 8th could've been much worse if not for his play on McCutchen. The man has won games for us there.
  12. If I understand the way Tressel likes to defend, I wouldn't be surprised if Wohler spends some time as sort of a LB-S hybrid. I've always liked him.
  13. Latest commit ('24)--CB Omillio Agard from Pennsylvania. A smallish corner, but a consensus 4-star. With Tressels' defensive schemes they need a lot of DB & safety depth. They seem to be attracting it.
  14. Something tells me they may have shifted their wish list to 1B/DH types. But there aren't a lot of those available, so Pham is certainly worth looking into if the price is right.
  15. Reminds me of something totally inane but slightly related. Years ago I acquired a full uniform worn by Eric Young (Sr) in a Turn Back the Clock game. The entire thing fit me perfectly. I still haven't decided what to think of that.
  16. We're talking about him using the very end of his bullpen with a 5 run deficit. It's next to impossible that there would have been any consequence. That's why you do it.
  17. I actually expected Bush to go but not Pannone. He wasn't any great shakes but wasn't horrible either. In his case it might be more of a "get a fresh arm up here" thing. I thought he would stick around until Justin Wilson was ready. Joseph, thanks for the thumbnail on Andrews. Looking forward to his debut .Maybe a 5th bench player? Can he still rake?😄
  18. Are you sure it's false? We're talking a managers' postgame presser here. I think it's a very valid point. Regardless of how Counsell viewed the next few days, he had Bush available in a 7-2 game & used Wilson.
  19. This is related to something I was thinking after the game. Once they got the first couple of guys on Bush appeared to be saving bullets in case it went to the 10th. Think about it-----0-2 pitch to Cutch that was very hittable, and with a red-hot Santana at the plate & 1st base open a first-pitch meatball as if it was Matt Wise standing at the plate trying to hit with salad tongs. Would love to have heard the conference when Hook went out to talk to Bush. I think Counsell was scared to death of extra innings.

  21. I've noticed my guy Cam is getting some run at 1B lately. I don't know if he'd ever be "the answer" there in Milwaukee, but the bat & the versatility make him a real contender for a roster spot. He's a fav of mine.
  22. In that situation, it used to never happen. Nowadays you see it, although it's relatively rare. The way Bush was getting caked & the way Santana was hitting the ball this was one of those times. Treat him like Barry Bonds.
  23. A few words about Uribe........ Just like everyone else, I'm not privy to the organizational meetings, progress reports & the like. But if I had to guess as to why Uribe isn't coming here yet I come up with three reasons: They want to see him throw strikes on a more consistent basis. They like him being on a schedule at this point in his development; meaning in Nashville he can be predetermined to work X number of times a week, and throw X number of pitches. If he's in the Milwaukee bullpen you can't really control that. If he's up here, he's behind some other guys & wouldn't get the regular work referenced in point #2. It would've been nice to have him last night ,but how many times are our top 5 relievers going to be unavailable?
  24. An important point, one I've lamented in past threads. We're obviously in an era of heavy BP usage & most likely always will be. But it astounds me how often we have to cover over 3 innings. That's where Woodruff could help. I thought he was just entering into the part of his career where he could be a real horse every 5 days.
  25. He used to be 98-99, which he needs to be at since his FB has next to no movement. I believe he was in the mid-90s tonight. So unless his curve is exceptional (it's average-ish) yep, that's a problem. Also, McCutchen drove one up the gap on an 0-2 pitch right down the middle.
