This is typical of how things have gone for this team offensively. Tapia has never been a world-beater, but he's a career .275 hitter who K's a bit less than 20% of the time. Of course he comes here & starts out 1-for 19 & Ks about half the time. His being in the lineup is nothing more than an attempt to get Yelich off his feet for a night. Summer bugs can be the worst. Glad to hear you're doing better, Brock.

Long-term solution, quite possibly. But yeah, not in '23.

You're most likely correct about their post-season chances. But as long as they're in the hunt for the division---no matter how weak the division is---I don't ever see them selling based on "We won't be able to make a playoff run anyway". This may result in a "soft buy" mode, where you do something that could be a slight upgrade w/o losing any of your top 6-7 prospects. And if that's the case I think they're better off rolling the dice with Frelick-Hiura.

I want to see us run when it's advantageous to us. I bring this up because it may be necessary tonight to get people moving to generate offense & also because it seemed to slip our minds yesterday. Wiemer had two excellent opportunities to run & remained anchored at 1B the entire AB, and Yelich reached once w/two out but Contreras swung at the 1st pitch, not even giving him a chance to run. Should've been a lot more aware of the opportunities w/ Senga throwing. If Hiura makes it back, they'd better only let him bring a 1B mitt with him. And maybe hide it on him once he arrives.

IMO, absolutely. He's a very good CF'er. I believe he would be a GG caliber RF.

I agree that there seems to be a philosophical difference when looking at the recent drafting. And it's a change I welcome.

This is a move that happens quite often in-season in baseball. And while it doesn't change the talent level, it CAN work. Change for changes' sake sometimes works in sports. The problem here is that I think it's usually preferable to go in-house for a replacement, and as I've touched on before I question the quality of the hitting instruction in the system. I'd love to know what the workload is with the 2 hitting coaches.......exactly who is responsible for what? Then again, the other day Rottino (or was it Levering) said their hitting coaches were "phenomenal" or something like that.

It doesn't look promising either way right now, but I'd prefer Anderson at 3B over Urias. As lost as he's looked I think there's a better chance of him figuring it out & giving us some production. I've always liked the plate discipline Urias shows but it just isn't translating into positive results. Plus, as solid as Urias has looked with the glove Anderson can be a difference-maker there. He's won us games defensively. I like Wiemer in RF, that's clearly where his future lies. I just don't think we'll see it in 2023. They're really stuck as far as 1B is concerned. Unless there's a trade (I don't believe Turner is happening) you might wind up hoping Urias figures something out, gets entrenched at 2B & Miller plays 1B most days. Geez, how far has Tellez fallen if that happens?

I agree he's going to be streaky at this point in his career regardless of where he hits. I think moving him around in the order would only make it worse. Maybe it shouldn't, I'll give you that. Whatever CC can do to give him a chance at a comfort level, no matter how seemingly insignificant, I think should be done. And as long as Yelich stays hot, hitting in front of him isn't the worst thing in the world.

After a recent hot streak he hit in something like 4 different spots in as many games (was vehemently against it at the time) & went ice cold. Let the man be.

Wilson has done a nice job filling his role, for sure. I see more than enough room for both of them as relievers, especially when you see Counsell regularly ask the pen to cover 3-4 innings; sometimes more. I think Houser can be used in situations other than when the team is trailing if need be. Maybe this can even lessen the need to add a BP arm or two every trade deadline.

Agree with this. It's actually nice to have someone in the BP who can pitch effectively AND can be used for more than one inning. In the meantime I'd stick with Rea, while keeping an eye on Gassers' work (he definitely is trending upward) & Woodruffs' progress. And golly gee, Jason Alexander is making his way back, too!!!!

Burnes was very "Peralta-like" today. He was solid through five. Solid, not dominating or carving them up or on top of his game like the Leverings & Rottinos of the world seemed to think, but effective. Then his whole world comes crashing down in the sixth & it's hard to figure out why. Didn't have anything to show for a couple of hard-hit balls, but I thought Caratini had a very good game. Appropriate he was able to squeeze the last out. It's shaping up to be an effective catching tandem.

I wouldn't mind seeing Justin Jarvis get his feet wet in AAA, but it would leave a hole in the Biloxi staff as I'm not sure who from Wisconsin could fill his spot in a corresponding move. Maybe Tyler Woessner or Max Lazar? -

I don't know how successful he will or won't be at the MLB level....no one does. But with his hit tool IMO it won't be nearly as easy to "get him to ground out or pop up" as it would be to get an Adames, a Wiemer or a Mitchell to K. I project him being fine in LF, if that's where he winds up. -
After it got to be 4-0 & Miley was at like 11 pitches per inning, I wondered how, even under these circumstances, we wouldn't get a starter to the 7th or 8th inning. My money was on an hour rain delay & they wouldn't let him continue. Have to admit cramps never occurred to me. Hopefully it's the start of an extended streak for The Streaky One. Pulling a long HR to left, THEN going oppo for another is admittedly very impressive.

This is pretty close to my take. Given the state of the division this year, they could win it. But way too many people are anointing them based on this streak. The 1973 Brewers won 15 of 16 at one point.

Strange, because there was only one other TE in the incoming class (Tucker Ashcraft) and Booker committed weeks after Ashcraft anyway. Grant Stec is a '24 recruit & a good one, but Booker committed after Stec announced, too. It could be an NIL thing, but UCLA (his rumored destination) never seemed to be pushing hard for him that I know of. I heard something second-hand that his folks are Badger fans & pushed him into a decision he didn't want to make. That would be my guess.

Maybe Teheran wasn't quite as sharp as in his other starts, but that was an extremely tight zone & an opponent that doesn't chase a whole lot. Tough combination. Under those circumstances 5 shutout innings was very impressive. It's not a good sign for the Brewers when the zone is that small, because it takes a certain type of offensive approach to take advantage & we ain't it.

I imagine they have a certain # of at-bats they want to see Frelick compile before pulling the trigger on him. When that happens It won't be for Wiemer unless he really falls off a cliff & is hitting .180 or something. I get the 'year of control' stuff, I just don't see them going that route unless they can back it up with a severe performance decline. Let's let Hiura get back on the field at N'ville. If he continues to hit once he does, then sure. Explore what Ramon Laureano or Lane Thomas would cost.

It was VERY impressive............and frustrating...............watching them go about their business today. Tight zone, and they recognized it. Their approach is the difference between Teheran going into the 7th inning, and having to leave after five. We never would've had similar success running up the pitch count b/c Gallen is really good. Still, he had only two 3-ball counts in seven innings, and it's no coincidence those were both successful ABs. It's not easy to grind out at-bats, esp vs a guy like they faced today, but the difference in approach was obvious, especially with the small zone. You seldom see a team successfully take as many pitches with 2 strikes as the D-Backs did this week. It wears on a pitcher. Under the circumstances it made Teherans' performance today all the more impressive.

Just a gut feeling but I think there's a chance of going on a bit of a run if they can get this one. The bad news is on paper that looks pretty unlikely today. After a glacier-cold start it looks like Urias' ABs are getting better.
