  1. I think Adames is hitting second because he hit well there last season & CC believes he'll get going. I think he will, if he can just lock into the RF swing & get away from being overly aggressive at the plate. If he can take a page out of the book Wong has been reading since the break it'll serve him well. I think he knows this; the execution is just real sporadic. People like Schroeder talk about how if you are willing to go the other way, you'll eventually get pitches to pull. I think someone needs to tell Willy you need to do it for more than 3 ABs. With the way Yelich has been performing in the leadoff spot I'd be shocked if they mess with that. I agree Cutch could hit second, but I'd give Adames a little more time. There's also Counsells' thing about going L-R-L-R-L-R. If he stays with that & Yelich leads off, is Wong a better bet than Tellez in the 3-hole?
  2. It's baseball. Quality of contact doesn't always result in success. Sometimes it may even be detrimental. It's a weird game that way. Huiras' quality of contact, when he's made contact, has been impressive. I don't think anyone can deny that. The nebulous factors--where the ball is hit, how you're being defended, liner at someone, bleeder or Texas-leaguer--all that goes out the window when contact isn't made. Kind of a chicken-egg thing. When are the strikeouts so high, that the hard contact doesn't make up for it? I think the organization has spoken on that, and I happen to agree with them. It's never as simple as OPS; nor should it be. And we all know the glove factors in, too.
  3. Or as someone mentioned earlier, a productive out--a term some people hate, but I'm sorry, some outs are productive. Sometimes you reach on an error (Not if you strike out). To be fair, sometimes you may also hit into a DP.
  4. ....And Perdomo. GOOD Perdomo lol. I wouldn't have a big problem with them not adding a bullpen arm, but would be very surprised if they didn't.
  5. Not to mention that it isn't written in stone that a ground ball is going to be an out. Hard to make that argument on a strikeout, unless the catcher is a Huira-level defender.
  6. I doubt the 3rd catcher in September will be as much of a thing anymore with the rosters only going to 28. Either way, I think you're right that they don't want to move him as I don't see them signing a headliner to catch in '23 & aren't looking for Caratini to catch 125 games. Great opp for Feliciano next year if he can shore up his defense. As for Gallo, it has to be a real strong belief in the change of scenery theory, he has to come real cheap (certainly wouldn't give them Robinson), & you might even want them to kick in some of his salary. That's a lot to ask for.
  7. A large part of the blame for sure, but the #1 thing that ticks me off is Ashby coming out for the fifth with a 2 run lead, two solid innings in a row, and inexplicably walks the leadoff hitter on 4 straight. I've brought up before about him not having grown up yet. That walk doesn't happen, good chance they score nothing.
  8. Nice to have off-days coming up. Minimizes the need for the "Sunday lineup".
  9. With all the prospect hype being thrown around (and rightfully so), Devanney really seems to be flying under the radar. 16 Dingers with a K% just under 20% with an OBP over .350. Just a real solid body of work.
  10. The common rhetoric is "The first two strikes are yours, the last one is for the team". I hate that. Trouble is, if you get to "the teams" strike, it means you're usually at a disadvantage in the count & more apt to chase. There ARE times you can, even should, look to ambush, but IMO it's situational.
  11. Which is why I don't think he's that far away. The fact he's playing as well as he is, supercedes AA vs AAA. Still, this organization doesn't skip over AAA very often. If he does, it'll be significant.

  13. I realize Frelick hasn't touched AAA yet, but I think he'll be here before the timeline you propose. Maybe WELL before.

  15. This is where I am. I'd be more interested if he were a rental. He would be cheaper, and I don't see a need for him for 2 or 3 years or whatever it would be.

  17. In a publication previewing the 1971 baseball season, it said of the Brewers that they took their best shot right away (Harper led off) and then waited three innings to take it again. With apologies to Danny Walton, that was pretty accurate. I remember him entering the '70 ASG as a pinch runner, and Johnny Bench throwing him out on a steal attempt. I think it's very cool that his 73 steals has stood up all these years as the franchise record. I believe Podsednik came closest to reaching it but fell just short.
  18. I'd try to go a little more "lottery-ticketish" with the pitching going back to Washington than Shook & Uribe if possible. As far as Mancini, I wouldn't mind Garcia going to the O's but wonder if they're even looking to sell. Realistically they should be, but this is the first stretch of good baseball they've had in a LONG time. I haven't heard much about Brandon Drury. Maybe there's something going on there; I think they should at least be looking into the possibility.
  19. And if you have someone like that, you can't trade him in the last year if you're contending for anything. You'd be killing your chances, and the fans would, in the words of the beloved Tony Dow, "go ape".
  20. I haven't seen nearly enough of Martinez recently to have a strong opinion, but as noted above his inability to defend doesn't seem to make him a good fit. Plus, I'm pretty sure adding him would lead to McCutchen playing much more CF in the last two months than I would like to see.
  21. I don't think there's anyone we can afford to "empty out the farm" for, given our market situation. That's why drafting & developing is so critical for us. If you have an opportunity to grab someone like this, you need to have a deep enough system that you can make a play w/o leaving yourself barren. I really feel the best way for Milwaukee to go regarding elite trade deadline acquisitions is the pure rental, as it won't take the 4-5 prospects & the albatross of the huge contract for a couple more years isn't a factor. We really, really need to grow our own.
  22. Oh, I think it's possible, if you're talking about what it would take & do we have the pieces to reach that price. If you mean it's insane to think we would pay it, I sure hope you're right.

  24. I've accepted it, and am happy with it if it continues. My favorite part of today was 1. Seeing Tellez stay on the ball-one dinger to LC, one pulled. 2. Urias drawing a couple walks, in addition to the HR. Starting to see the ball well. 3. The sideline reporter mentioning that Dan Plesac was a member of the Brewers' 82 World Series team.
  25. Rolling the dice on the injured relievers coming back & not picking up bullpen help is something I wouldn't be against. Stearns even specifically mentioned the guys rehabbing during a recent interview so maybe it's possible. It goes contrary to what we almost always do though, so I expect a deal.
