  1. Id start by contacting Vinny Rotino (alum) and Damien Miller, not alum but went to Viterbo (in LAX) and lives now in West Salem I believe. Start digging for rich alums. I am an alum, but not rich and besides, I was eventually cut from the baseball team so I harbor ill will (not really, Im really just broke). Good luck.
  2. probably a case of too much exposure. What was reported in snippets by the media was enough to satisfy our need for information. All the juicy details are out, why buy the book?
  3. One final kick to the groin from ole Benny. I defended him to the end, but the lack of compensation for his departure I will never be able to forgive him for...
  4. Last season, which was Hardy's best, he posted a .603 and .701 OPS in April and May, with 2 HRs. In 2007 he had a June and July OPS of .685 and .558. I would say that an April and May ops of .509 and .888 are in line with him being streaky. I think he will end up with about a .280 average and 20 HRs when it is all said and done.
  5. The Red Sox are almost starting to remind me of the Dodgers and Angels with the way the hoard their prospects and refuse to trade them for anything other than a superstar. The Dodgers were at the front of many rumors when they had three top pitching prospects in Edwin Jackson, Greg (I think it was Greg) Miller and somebody Hanrahan. Eventually all three got hurt/flamed out etc etc and they have nothing really to show for them. Granted, that may not happen with Bucholtz but a prospect is never a sure thing, especially when they have struggled in a brief MLB stint. So the Red Sox and believe that Bucholtz is too much to give up for Hardy, but in less time than it will take for Hardy to hit free agency Bucholtz might have completely flamed out, while I am sure Hardy will keep producing at an .800 OPS level.
  6. I dont see how we could trade Hardy before the offseason. First place teams dont trade their starting All Star shortstop midseason for prospects. Granted, Boston did it a few years ago with Nomar but they were not in first place and Nomar was coming back from injury.
  7. This has been my desktop background for a couple years now. Its pretty cool.
  8. Aramis Ramirez for sure. Soriano kills us too. Derek Lee for some reason no longer strikes fear into me, maybe it is because of his GIDP for the final two outs last year to get us into the playoffs.
  9. Definitely NOT hating on the players, just wondering if it actually LOWERS their leverage the next year. Not to mention that the risk associated with playing another season uncompensated and subjecting oneself to injury or being exposed as not as good. What if the Royals offer Aaron Crow the same deal he had been offered last year. Does he take it? If he doesnt take it, what is he going to do, go back and play Indy ball again? Id like to see it.
  10. I especially like the combination of players that we have this year in our top 6 picks. It is a great combo if college arms, position players.
  11. Crap Davidson gone to AZ.
  12. They are taking a 15 minute break...typical baseball players. run to first, stop and rest, finish a whopping 32 picks, take a breather.
  13. Way to go X (and colby) I have to hand it to you, great call. Now for Davidson in the comp round.
  14. It is almost like these commentors know NOTHING about the players being picked
  15. Easily the worst produced draft I have ever watched.
  16. I imagine they were turned down because the offer wasnt enough, not because the player wanted to play elsewhere, am I right?
  17. Pittsburgh looking to stay in the bottom of the Central for years to come. I suppose they need someone to catch all those bust pitcher picks they have made the last 10 years. In cornfield outside of Pittsburgh this guy will be playing with the rest of the Pirate Draft Pick ghosts.
  18. So they move the draft to "primetime" and then start it during the dinner hour? That is pretty lame. They should move it to a Saturday/Sunday and start it at 3:00 on Saturday if they want to televise the darn thing. Which, by the way, since I have seen none of thse guys play a game I cared about isnt going to make for compelling television even though I am a huge baseball nut.
  19. Exactly, so doesnt their leverage go DOWN after they pull this stunt? Harrington is of course the classic example, but even he made over a million between insurance on his arm and a lawsuit brought against his agent.
  20. If I understand correctly there are two players in this years draft pool who were drafted last year and did not sign and are now in Indy leagues, those players being Aaron Crow and Tanner Scheppers. I can only presume that they were drafted last year, were offered 'slot' value and turned it down, hoping to play Indy ball for a year and to cash in this year. I have to say, if that is the case, I really have to question the logic behind that. The reason being is that lets say that Aaron Crow is drafted by the Reds this year at #8 and he is offered a slot contract. What is he going to do? Sit out ANOTHER year making peanuts wait for 2010 when he could have signed for millions TWO years ago and get closer to earning a MLB pay check? Not to mention the risk of injury in the Indy leagues. If anything I think this strategy severely limits their leverage in negotiations this year and then in 2010, what are they going to do hold out for 2011?? Maybe there are other perks that I am not considering, but if you are a top 10 pick and are offered a couple million to sign a contract and start pitching toward the major leagues, why throw it away or put it off a year or two by pitching indy ball where you could get hurt, or exposed as not worth the money offered originally.
  21. Madison, River Falls and Eau Claire are already without teams and now UW-La Crosse has announced it is pulling the plug on its college program. This is really unfortunate as it will have an affect on the remaining WIAC teams, such as Whitewater, Oshkosh and Point. Not a good trend.
  22. wrong thread Im hoping?
  23. By the way, if Peavy has dropped his no trade to Milwaukee and Melvin and Towers are talking, I could see something happening shortly after the draft, once Melvin sees what his haul is and where the organization stands depth-wise.
