  1. Thanks for the heads up. Please keep us informed if you hear anything either way!
  2. Deadspin comment: Prince Fielder also started his own clothing line called MANATEE. lolz.
  3. I could see college arm with that first pick and then some young hitters with the next 4.
  4. At least they didnt trade him to the Cubs for Hee Seop Choi and Kenny Lofton.
  5. A pitching coach with the last name Hook. How perfect is that. Old Crusty Manager: "He's getting killed out there" Old Crusty Bench Coach: "Yeah he is, should we get someone up in the bullpen" Manager: "Yeah, and send the Hook out to get him"
  6. I thought this was going to be a video of people walking off the field without shaking hands. Kid looks good.
  7. He has 100 pitches through 4 innings. How many should he be allowed to throw?
  8. Let Burns pitch the next 4 and lets move along to tomorrow.
  9. Wont be long and San Diego wont take Manny Parra off our hands and the entire discussion will be moot.
  10. Perhaps the Manny Parra experiment should be ended. ERA over 6.00 now. Even a Suppan start is more encouraging.
  11. This guys needs to go. Although when he pitches once every 10 days it is probably hard to stay sharp.
  12. No, it is true, he was worth 20.6 million. Contracts are given out WITHOUT knowing what a player will do over a given year. According to Fangraphs, Jeff Suppan should have been in AAA last year. Had the Brewers paid Sheets 20.6 million for his performance and paid Jeff Suppan league minimum (a full $800k more than he was worth) they would have gotten the same results, for the approximate same amount of money (Sheets actually earned 12.1, Suppan 8.3).
  13. The reason there are more $20 million dollar performances than there are $20 million dollar a year contracts is the same as why a guy like Jeff Suppan is worth negative $400k last year while making over 8 million and negative 2.5 million this year while making close to 12 million. As long as teams are handing out contracts to the Jeff Suppans of the world that produce at a negative rate, there will be performances every year where guys are making much less than their contributions.
  14. They dont shake hands after a baseball series.
  15. If and this is a big if, we trade Fielder before his contract expires (this off season?) I would expect MLB pitching in return, possibly replacing Parra or Jeffress if they are traded for Peavy. I just thing that the Padres will end up getting about what Minnesota got for Santana, which is to say, not much.
  16. Hammonds is the type of average to good free agent that the Brewers spent tons of money on from 97-2003. I prefer a Sabathia/McClung rotation over a Suppand/Looper combo. Same goes for Peavy and McClung, or even Dillard. Spend money on the best there is, because if you are spending it on Jeffrey Hammonds, Sean Berry or Jeff Suppan you are wasting your dollars as the difference from 500k to 8-10 million to sign those players is huge compared to the talent increase, but the difference from 8-10 million for the average free agents to the 16-17 million for the Jake Peavy's of the world is huge in terms of talent. I never want to go back to the Hammonds days.
  17. I would rather have one Manny Ramirez than 3 Jeffrey Hammonds...or one Jake Peavy over two Jeff Suppans. I don't think Peavy to Sabathia is a valid comparison at all. It doesn't really matter who the prospects are going to SD, Sabathia would have been much more valuable to the Brewers than Peavy would be, and by a wide margin. Prospects are not valueless, the value is just difficult to project at the time of the trade, as is their potential value to the Brewers had they stayed in the system. 100 million, same type of pitching numbers, a year older, more innings, not getting two comp picks AND we gave up LaPorta and Brantley...and Sabathia is more valuable by a wide margain??
  18. Thanks. What sparked my question was reading that NY, BOS and LAA were mentioned as targets for this guy in the late first, then I read a mock that had him going to Milwaukee at 26 and further research into the guy showed that he has a big bat and was supposed to be the #1 prep catcher before he got hurt. Maybe with the late second round pick if he is still there, but my guess is a team like LAA picks him earlier than that.
  19. It is hard for me to reconcile some of the dislike for Jake Peavy, his ERA, his contract, splits, etc etc. Didnt the Brewers offer CC Sabathia a 5 year 100 million dollar deal this offseason? Now I know perhaps some of you who object to Peavy also objected to Sabathia but many well respected posters on this site would not have minded that deal, so here me out. If Sabathia had accepted the Brewers would be on the hook for: Sabathia: 2009-$20million, 2010-$20million, 2011-$20million, 2012-$20million, 2013-$20million = $100 million Peavy: 2009-$8million, 2010-$15million, 2011-$16million, 2012, $17million, 2013-$22million = $78 million Age: Sabathia born July 21, 1980 Peavy born May 31, 1981 Peavy is a year YOUNGER Innings pitched: Sabathia = 1,730 Peavy = 1,334 Cy Young Awards: Sabathia - 1 Peavy - 1 Injury worries: Sabathia: tons of innings and bad body or could be Bartolo Colon by the time deal is done Peavy: supposed sloppy mechanics or could be Ben Sheets by the time the deal is done Road ERAs: Sabathia: 3.65 Peavy: 3.84 So as far as contract + inuury concerns go, if you liked Sabathia, you SHOULD like Peavy as well. The big, big difference is that we have to trade players to get Peavy and we wouldnt have to get Sabathia. Ahh, BUT we would NOT have gotten two comp picks for Sabathia if we had resigned him so..... Send the Padres: Parra OR Jeffress, not both Evan Anundsen Angel Salome Tim Dillard Replace two of them this draft.
  20. What is this guy's status? Is he still planning on coming out in this years draft considering his TJ surgery? I read that he was the top catcher in the class before his injury. Could he be drafted and signed by the Brewers at #26?
  21. But the more you use those relievers the less effective they will be down the stretch. It is great they are pitching well now but Parra's tendency to not get past 6 innings, along with Suppan and Looper who do not seem to go deep into games will wear this bullpen down. A guy like Peavy can pitch a lot of innings and keep the bullpen fresh.Yeah I dont see how Parra's inability to go deep in games HELPS bridge the gap between him and Peavy.
  22. Considering that I do not expect Parra to win games when he starts, but I do expect Peavy to keep the team in it, I think the difference is bigger than two wins as well. I cant justify that though with complicated formulas so I defer to the experts. Parra is starting to look like JDLR.
  23. I think Headly is still pretty highly regarded in San Diego is pre-arby so I dont see why they would move him. Giles is 38 and makes a ton of money and he has a sub .600 OPS this year, not sure I want him either, although if they took Hall (and his contract) and sent us both Giles and Kouzmanoff I would probably jump at it.
  24. This was a great interview, one of my favorites on this site. Brooks was one of my favorite players while he was here and this interview just reinforces my feelings. Thanks for stopping by Kiesch!
  25. More likely someone like Kouzmanoff comes along in the deal than Giles.
