  1. Pizza. Yum.
  2. How much money would each player involved need to be given to "risk" lifetime banishment in order to partake in such a scheme. The driving force behind the Blacksox scandal was that the players didnt make squat for cash and they were easily paid more to throw the game than they could make playing. How much money does Scott Kazmir stand to make over the life of the rest of his career? 50 million? So say he was given 70 million then to throw the game...now do that for each player. There is no was that kind of money is given to the underdog team to throw a series. Come on people, think about this for a minuted. Mainly you, Chuck. And the OP.
  3. I had a dream that Corey Hart was looking at 2-3 years for Substantial Battery. I wonder if that means anything. Free Swinger perhaps?
  4. Playoff tickets shouldnt be split. The two who split the package should agree to go together to each game. It is only fair.
  5. The Red Sox have been pulling this off for a couple of years now, and I like the strategy. MLBtraderumors has an article that indicates that Theo Epstein will forgo looking for a #1 type starter and dabble in the buy-low bin. Starters that are named as possibilities are: I like Epstein's quote in the article: I wish Melvin would consider doing this. And dont tell me Braden Looper fit the bill last year. And Suppan was the EXACT opposite kind of buy-high, cross-your-fingers he doesnt stink type of pitcher.
  6. I remember Papelbon coming up as a starter and I dont think that the reason for his move to the closer role was related to failure as a starter as much as it was a big need for a closer. With the Red Sox thinking about trading him, if a team like the Brewers obtained him could he be made back into a starter? What do you think?
  7. I saw Revolutionary Road last weekend, and here I sit in my office 9 days later still hung up on it. Both the film (which was excellent) and the acting (which was second to none for 2008). I simply cannot get over the film and Kate Winslet absolutely blew me away on screen. I have yet to see The Reader (but I plan on renting it this weekend) but I cannot believe her performance in that film (for which she won best Actress at the Oscars) will be better than that in Rev Road (for which she won best actress at the Golden Globes). Dicaprio was fantastic as well and Sam Mendes did an absolutely wonderful job directing.
  8. Isn't it obvious? With 2 weeks left in the season the Astros fired their manager in a last ditch effort to get to the playoffs. Cooper got Yosted.
  9. Why the heck are you using RBI to justify Suzuki? If Kendall batted 4th between Braun and Fielder he'd probably have 80 RBI.
  10. Obviously I should have made my post in blue font, but you said an elite hitter and a top prospect. There you go. Fielder and Escobar for one year of an expensive 33 year old starting pitcher. Needless to say I think your assessment is a bit off on Vazquez's value. A package built around Hart or McGehee would be a start. A decent prospect like Lorenzo Cain or Taylor Green would or should be enough to supplement. Perhaps a pitcher like Fredrickson or Anundsun instead of the additional position player.
  11. Fielder and Alcides Escobar for Vazquez?
  12. Seattle, Texas and Minnesota at home Angels and Minnesota on the road for interleague play From my quick glance it looked like 3 home series vs. the Cubs; 2 home series vs. the Cards.
  13. This guy has been on the move his entire career and now I am hearing that he may be traded yet again if the Braves extend Hudson. He has been the a guy I have liked for a long while, but the fact that he has bounced from one franchise to another is puzzling, and worrisome. Montreal to NYY to Arizona to White Sox to Atlanta. He is going to turn 33 next season, I wonder what we would have to give up to get him. Maybe Corey Hart (if the Braves are still interested) and a prospect like Taylor Green? Then there are rumors or maybe better put ideas about trading Fielder to the Giants for pitching as well. I have seen the typical idea of Matt Cain, and it is mentioned again in MLBtraderumors, but the Giants may understandably reluctant. So what about Madison Bumgarner. A little more unproven but would be controlled for 6 years vs. Cain's 2. I would have to think that would necessitate a move by Gamel to 1b. 1. Weeks 2b 2. McGehee/Felipe Lopez/Hardy? 3b 3. Braun LF 4. Gamel 1b 5. Cameron? CF 6. Right Field Free Agent? Hideki Matsui? 7. Rivera/Salome?Kendall C 8. Escobar SS Gallardo Vazquez Bumgarner/Cain? Bush Suppan/Looper
  14. I hope they keep him if they can get him for the same price (substantially) next year. It is nice to hear that he enjoys it here.
  15. Im "only" 31, but I went so far as to delete MTV from my TV channel listing so I dont have to see it any more.
  16. What about Magic Jack as a home phone solution? It costs $20 per year.
  17. I think it means he has found some evidence that somehow links successful managers, or at least ones that we view as successful, with winning baseball games. I dont know how he can prove it though, this is some pretty earth breaking research I am sure. Check Fangraphs or Baseball Prospectus, see if they are aware of this formula.
  18. is this the same Ruben Flores that goes by "Buddy Flores"? He of the ERA of 5+ in 4 seasons of A Ball?
  19. Wow, 19 years old and in AA. Impressive. Good Luck Brett.
  20. Can we change the thread title? It looks like the Brewers claimed Rios and is very misleading. Take out the arrows as there has been no transaction and Toronto can still pull Rios back.
  21. I doubt he made it out of the American League much less to the Brewers.
  22. Love the first comment of that article. "But wait, there was more!"
  23. The Brewers are going to need to find room for Gamel, Escobar, Hardy, Weeks and Mcgehee. I try to trade Hardy, I would platoon Gamel and McGehee with McGehee also spelling Weeks at 2b when he needs a day off. Sign an older veteran to back up SS and pinch hit.
  24. Great insight Bob Skube, you are a great resource for this board. Thank you.
  25. Have the Blue Jays made Halladay worthless to them by making demands that no teams are willing to meet? It's akin to having a large diamond that you cannot use and that you want 1 million dollars for while every is offering you 750k and you keep rejecting the offers demanding the 1 million. Then all of those prospective buyers buy somewhat smaller diamonds that fit their needs for only $300k and pretty soon you are stuck with a diamond you dont want and cant use.
