  1. A .650 OPS in CF is more acceptable when the alternative is a .750 OPS at 3B, and if the defense in CF is well above average while the defense at 3b is just average, that needs to be taken into consideration as well. There has to be a formula somewhere, where one could add the .OPS of a Braun(LF)-Hall(3b)-Gwynn(CF) combo and also factor in likely defensive contributions (or liabilities) each would provide at those positions (projected VORP, WARP?) and contrast that with a Braun (LF)-Blalock(3b)-Hall(CF) combo. I guess Braun is a constant, so maybe you eliminate that part of the equation. What I am saying is when defense is considered, along with Blalocks home/road splits, LH/RH splits, and defensive abilities at 3b, combined with Hall's defense in CF, is that a better overall product than having Gwynn, a far superior CF to Hall, and Hall, who is about as good defensively, and IMO, better offensively than Blalock at 3b??? Blalock's 2005-2007 splits look like: .327/.435/.762 overall .296/.373/.669 away from home .267/.347/.614 vs. LHP I shudder to think what his OPS was away from home vs. LHP.
  2. 1. My dad has XM, and he gets his money's worth out of it for 24hr MLB baseball alone. 2. I had both XM and Sirius, until my car was broken into in that god-forsaken city of Milwaukee and they stole everything, I enjoyed both. Sirius was installed into my car, XM was the portable unit. 3. If I had to get one again, it would be XM, simply for the baseball coverage. It's darn good. 4. Last I head, they may be merging, but that last winter. It would be something to look into. FI they do, I dont think you would need to get new gear, as whatever you had would just pick up the extra channels added by the merger. 5. If you listen to FM radio (I never do) then this will change your life because the stations are 1000x better.
  3. Yeah, I get what you guys are saying about Bill Hall, but that doesnt mean it makes any sense. If you look at it logically, it just doesnt add up.. 2005-2006 Bill Hall plays 3b, and is at least average defensively - and for those two season above average offensively 2007 the Brewers move Bill Hall to CF, where he is considerably worse defensively, to make room for Ryan Braun at 3b, who is fantastically worse defensively. After 2007 The Brewers realize that team defense is a big problem in CF and 3b. Ryan Braun is moved to LF, creating a hole at 3b. Brewers look at roster, do not see any available 3b in-house, so proceed to trade for 3b who is older, more expensive, not as good offensively (Crede, Blalock) and/or coming off of serious injuries (Crede, Blalock, Rolen) to fill 3b. Brewers decide that Bill Hall cant play a good CF so they trade him in a package deal because now he is without a position, they most likely get older and crappier (Pierre, Dave Roberts) and not much better defensively (if at all) or offensively than Tony Gwynn Jr., another in-house option. I suppose this is why Im not a major league GM, because I think this is the obvious move to make, and it clearly isnt obvious.
  4. If people are going to insist on spelling his last name Blaylock, then I insist on calling him "Mookie" instead of Hank. If someone can convince me that the defense would be better overall with Mookie at 3b, Braun in LF and Hall in center over Hall at 3b, Braun in LF and Gwynn in CF, then I would have no problem doing that. However, my feeling is that Bill Hall is much more likely to be a better hitter than Blalock in 2008 and beyond and the defense from either at 3b is likely to be a push. Gwynn isnt likely to be better than Mookie, but the increase in defense might make up for some of that, plus, Mookie is living off of some good years in 2004/05 right now and Gwynn might improve a little to make it not that much of an offensive problem. Weeks Kendall Braun Fielder Hart Hall Hardy Gwynn would be a fine lineup, and better defensively than adding Blalock and removing Gwynn from CF. Plus it wouldnt cost anything in trade. That said, Im open to exploring it.
  5. Wow. We are talking about Joe Blaton, right? The one with a career ERA+ of 105, in a pitchers park nonetheless? Why not just toss in Fielder and Braun and get Huston Street and Rich Harden right away. Then we'd be the 27' Yankees.
  6. About the water and the X-mas lights. Would it be any different than those people who have lights outside on trees when it snows/rains? Ive never put up lights outside, are those special outside lights or just regular x-mas lights?
  7. Hardly making a splash. He is or may be signing with KC for 2 years for a reason - nobody else wants him. They arent exactly outbidding the Dodgers or Yankees here.
  8. Dont forget the Brevard County radio Announcer!! Im sure he gets all of his info straight from the source.

  10. Yeah, but isnt it Eddie's kid? So maybe that makes ut MORE Van Halen.
  11. If you watched that first video, it was clear it wasnt the quality of the tape, but the quality of the performance. Roth is washed up.
  12. Wow, that performance from DLR as awful. It sounds like Kareoke.
  13. I had no idea they played tonght. The Big 10 Network is really making a difference.
  14. Maybe think about retitling this to "Is WHIP a misleading statistic?"
  15. except Hall can play 2b, ss, cf, 3b and probably both corners, and Mench cannot.
  16. I dont discount what Madtown heard, but it's so similar to the deal that someone heard on the radio in So. Ill. that I dont think it has any merit. In todays media world, "rumors" seem to come from various places, when in reality they all come from some fan's message board posting about a mysterious radio station in Podunk, USA. It reminds me of the Adam Dunn/BF.net/WSSP fiasco, where everyone was citing the other for validation on the rumor. Finally, it seems the more players/prospects that are added to a rumor, the less likely it is to happen, especially when you are talking about multiple players from both teams.
  17. Whats up with Tim Jarmusz, freshman shooting guard. He's tall and has a sweet stroke. Is he expected to crack the rotation?
  18. Im thinking Nissan Altima, circa 2003-04 for my car. I had a thread about it a month or so ago. Cant afford one yet, but hopefully by the end of the year.
  19. I'll echo the MBA/Law School angle. That opens up a lot of doors, but also requires 7 years of schooling or so.
  20. That is a great article and I agree with it completely. we are not in experimentation mode with this team. We are in Win mode. Anyone notice who else consistently made the worst defenders list? Fielder and Hall. We are butchers in the field. Hall the 3b, Braun to RF....NOW!
  21. I dont know what you are talking about dude. IT was sunny and almost 70 today. What a perfect day to do anything that it was way to hot to do this summer.
  22. Humidor has to be taken into affect as well. I was watching Mythbusters last night and they tested balls kept in a humidor while controlling bat and pitch speed. They tested them with "regular" balls and dried out balls and the humid balls did not go nearly as far as the others, with the really dry ones going the furthest. As far as sabermetrics and run differential go, Im not sold on defensive metrics and their reliability, at least not to the extent that I am offensive ones.
  23. We should see about keeping SOME player at their natural positions. Im not a fan of moving Weeks to CF, just like I wasnt a fan of moving Hall to CF. CF isnt just a position you can learn over night, or in spring training. Guys like Edmonds, Andruw Jones, Griffey in his prime, were playing their entire careers in CF. This team has more than enough offense, IMO, and really needs to improve the defense. It's somewhat similar to in football (oh, God, please dont move this post toe lambeauleap.net) when you can improve your defensive backs by improving your defensive line/pass rush. By improving our defense we can make all of our pitchers better, rather than bringing in a pitcher and making him worse by letting an awful defense play behind him. Weeks, Fielder and Braun will always be average to below average fielders, depending on where they are playing. I'd just try to keep them at positions where defense is least important (like LF and 1B). Regardless of what we do with Gwynn, Hall needs to be at 3b and Braun needs to be in Left Field. Gabe Gross can play CF or Corey Hart, with the other in RF.
