  1. If I'm not mistaken, 5 of them have come within the past week, and more than half of them have been with the bases loaded.
  2. Good grief, McCutchen. How many double plays can one guy hit into.
  3. He was also really good for a prolonged stretch last year when he got called up, alongside Cousins, before losing it a little bit in August/September. I really like him and what brings to the middle to back end of the bullpen.
  4. Yep. 11 whiffs in 2 2/3 innings is pretty impressive. Just completely lost his command a la Ashby, but in the third rather than the first.
  5. Velocity isn't the only thing that matters, either. Spin rate/movement is almost equally as important and Small's spin rate on his fastball is quite high. Also, I don't understand the whole "he's already 25 argument" when the history of baseball is littered with guys who have improved their velocity/command after that age. For example, see DeGrom, Jacob. And the fact that you are ruling out him ever becoming a good pitcher after only one appearance does place you pretty squarely in the wrong.
  6. You're wrong. Look at Fangraphs. Freddy's average fastball velocity in 2018 was 91.1, which is right where Small is. Anyone who makes a judgment about a guy's future career based off of his debut appearance, while neglecting proven minor league results, is simply not in the right.
  7. I'm in the process of writing a song. It's called, "All you need is.....Keston Hiura against right-handed pitchers."
  8. I'm not surprised unfortunately. This place is overreaction city.
  9. Small will be fine imo. 11 whiffs in 2 2/3 is impressive. Just lost his command in the 3rd, which is better than what Ashby did in his debut.
  10. Then, you're misremembering. Freddy averaged around 90-92 with his fastball when he first came up, and walked almost 5 batters per nine innings. And Freddy really only had his fastball. which is how he got the nickname "Fastball Freddy" in the first place. Small at least has another plus pitch in his changeup. It's his major league debut after pretty much dominating the minor leagues, so if you've seen enough, then, I'm glad you're not making the decisions for this team.
  11. Atta boy Ethan. After the game, he can go over to Ashby and give him crap about actually making it through the first inning in his debut. lol
  12. Didn't take long for the ump to insert himself into the game....
  13. Looks like Small will join the rotation with Woodruff going on the IL. Will get a good chance to prove what he can do over the next couple weeks or so. Rooting hard for the guy.
  14. What I'm thinking myself. If true, then when is the promise considered fulfilled? Hopefully soon. Cause Keston has been raking against right-handers.
  15. Left St. Louis with a 3.5 game lead in the division for Memorial Day. Mission accomplished, I'd say. And we took some games from "good teams" with a depleted roster.
  16. Well, I've been asking for a while now when Cain will hit his first home run of the year. So, mark down May 29th....
  17. Pretty much all of our back-end guys pitched yesterday, and they did quite well in doing so I must say. So, Gott maybe just so things don't get too interesting? Or I could see Milner, too, with some lefties coming up in the Cardinals' half of the inning.
  18. We needed our ace to come through today, and boy, did he ever.
  19. I believe they moved the 13/13 thing back a few more weeks, did they not? So, Small will probably come up just for the start then, unless they plan on featuring him out of the bullpen, too.
  20. So, who do people think is going to be sent down for Ethan Small? I hope it's not Hiura. My guess is Kelley or Sanchez. Or is the extra player for doubleheaders still a thing?
