  1. $20? At the stadium the t-shirts are $38 and the sweatshirts are $95. I realize they are more expensive at the team store, but that's nuts.
  2. Excuse me But I might drink a little more than I should tonight And I might take you home with me, if I could tonight And, baby, Ima make you feel so good, tonight I don't even know where I heard this song. Ugh.
  3. Exctied for a win and some "Let's go Cubbies" chants. Wait, what?
  4. Friday, Saturday, Monday.
  5. Keith Law has been pretty interesting on this subject lately. In all the Moneyball movie hype, it's been discussed that Law was cocky and VERY anti-scout in his interviews with Michael Lewis when Lewis was writing the book. Law addressed this the other day, talking about how is views have evolved over the years - that he now sees the balance between SABR-based evaluations of players and traditional scouting. I think this discussion is similar. There have certainly been advances in stats over the years, yet most players will tell you that there are times when they are "seeing the ball well." The challenge for both camps in this situation is trying to predict when the hitter will stop seeing the ball well. Fundamentally you can't, no matter what stats, data points or eyeball evaluation you use.
  6. I was half-joking about the PEDs, but I was serious about not wanting to give Berkman multiple years. This franchise is in a position where it does not need to spend $12-15MM per year at 1B, particularly one in his late-30s. If they go the Gamel route, you're looking at 75% (and maybe more) of the production at 5% of the cost. If they are not sold on Gamel, there are cheaper options that could get reasonably close to Berkman's production at a fraction of the cost. The Brewers need to redeploy the "Prince money" to other postions, particularly those on the opposite side of the infield. 1B is the easist position on the diamond to fill.
  7. I'm glad we're not going to be tempted to give Berkman multiple years. I worry that age and injuries are going to catch up to him and his performance will drop off dramatically. Oh, wait - that already happened to him in 2010. Somehow he found the fountain of youth on a team with a manager and hitting coach that embrace perfomance enhancing drugs. That could just be coincidence though.
  8. It clashes with the more typical athletic-uni font in MARLINS above, though. I agree, the font of "Marlins" is terrible.
  9. I kind of like the M with the marlin. It looks like an old-school ABA logo.
  10. Had the Greinke deal happened first, Lawrie probably would have been part of it.
  11. I can't see how people are blaming Money for Gamel not being in Milwaukee. This is not a situation where you have a manager that hates all young players (Ken Macha, I'm looking in your general direction). There have been plenty of other guys that passed through AAA without incident - Axford, Green, Lucroy, etc. On the other hand, we're heard stories about Gamel's work ethic from other players, coaches and fans. They might not all be 100% true, but it's getting to the point where we'te exactly taking about a small sample. The only consistent, positive evaluation I've heard about Gamel is that he hits minor league pitching well.
  12. Didn't see this mentioned anywhere in this thread, but I read that Counsell didn't go with the team to whatever western store they used for all this stuff, opting instead for a thrift store. I was travelling this weekend and don't remember where I read that, but it was on Twitter, so it was likely, TH, Rosiak or McCalvy.
  13. Conversely, I'd wager that most of the men at Miller Park don't know how to keep score either.
  14. I live downtown and think Wisconsin to Bluemound is the fastest way in. Occasionally, there will be a cop at the entrance at Story Parkway that will not let you make the left into the lot, but that is usually only the case on Opening Day. After the game, going east onto Bluemound out of that lot is usually very fast. Preferred parking on that side of the stadium (3rd base) is kind of a disaster. I always opt for general. Of course, there's also the "park on Wisconsin and walk in while enjoying a couple beers" option. That's free and I can usually get to my car for some of the post-game show and not fight any traffic.
  15. One other thing to consider (and I'm mentioning this without looking up the stats) - doesn't it seem like everytime Yo is given extra rest he pitches poorly? Maybe I'm just thinking of a few anecdotal episodes, but it's worth exploring.
  16. Well, they ususally like to announce things like contract extensions when they have a day off in the middle of a homestand...
  17. I wouldn't say it came back clean. Everything I read states that there were no illegal drugs in her system. Nothing about prescription drugs, and there was alcohol in her system. Personally, I'm not going to put this in the "natural causes" category.
  18. Pearl Jam - self-titled album
  19. I'll resist the urge to be snarky here. Seriously, though - match.com. I got divorced last year, forcing me back into the dating world after 10 years. I had always made fun of "internt dating", but now I describe it as walking into a bar where everyone is looking to date. You can filter by a ton of different options without anyone knowing that you're searching for a tall blond, thin, liberal woman who makes over $75k (or whatever trips your trigger). I went out with several people (yes, one was crazy) before finding my current girlfriend. Its really easy and not sketchy at all.
  20. I haven't had any problems this year, but we'll see today. I'm going to the game and just need one ticket. Hoping that some of the "paying it forward" from games past pays off today. Anytime I have extras, I just look for singles or father-son combos and either give them away or just let someone buy me a beer. I will not be buying from a professional.
  21. The rumors are that there was something alcohol-related that caused the suspension. Interesting, since Abner Doubleday Tony LaRussa didn't get any punishment from the team for his DUI.
  22. Hopefully Saturday would be an afternoon game, Wisconsin/Nebraska is that night.
  23. There are almost always single-seat obstructed view seats available on the day of the game.
  24. I think you're oversimplifying what hewas saying. He was advocating for the Brewers mangerial approach which takes the long-term view that guys who under perform will eventually return to the mean. Rather than calling up a guy like Green with great AAA numbers, but you don't know how he'll perform in MLB. I know that people on this board widely don't agree with that approach, but I don't think he was ever calling Yuni "good." Just better than he has been. As far as the coin analogy, I think he oversimplified it too. It is one of the first things they teach you in stats class tho, the more you flip a coin the closer and closer it tends to get to be a 50-50 split. With the coin analogy, the odds are always 50-50. Even if you get 10 heads in a row, the odds are still 50-50 on the next flip.
