  1. Nice to see Dylan Covey have a chance to get drafted for the third time.
  2. Relievers have far more value in season, than in the off season. I think this is a pretty darn big haul.
  3. I think the Brewers' Farm has finally reached the point where we have to lose some people with potential. You just hope you protect the right ones!
  4. I think Vaughn will spend a good chunk of the season in the NBDL, probably wouldn't hurt him to get the run. I think they are fun to watch, they're obviously flawed without KM, but JP and GA are really entertaining. Plumlee is looking like a complete bust, but otherwise, I'm not too upset with the squad. Can you imagine the attention GA would get in a big market?
  5. I'm fine with taking open 3s, that is the way of basketball now. Going to be hard going forward if that is all you do though. I'm not panicking, I think they'll figure it out.
  6. Creighton figured out that the whole offense was to swing the ball until :05 were left on the shot clock, and then chuck a long 3. They still need to figure out who the "man" is on this team. Koenig, Happ, Hayes? Need to establish someone, and let the other guys work when they compensate. I wouldn't call Happ selfish last night, he drove and kicked like he was supposed to. Hayes needs to work the post more, IMO. He's more valuable as an inside outside guy.
  7. Never apologize for being "That Guy", Laura. The world needs them. Sincerely, Another That Guy
  8. Saying you won't look at Morton because you have Garza is bad practice, to me at least. I'm not advocating a long term contract, I'm for a one year deal with a club option, though. I would hope DS is considering all options, I would hope our prospects force his hand at some point, but I don't think you can really make an argument that any of them are currently. Our current rotation is nothing special. I like Davies, but every other member should be readily replaceable. I do not believe that all replacements will come from within. History tells me they won't. If you can get Morton, or someone of his ilk, on a prove yourself contract, I'd do it. Not every player added to the team will be for "the future".
  9. Right now, I count 13 potential starters currently in-house for the Brewers for Spring Training/Opening Day 2017: Jungmann Garza Nelson Peralta Anderson Guerra Suter Wilkerson Hader Wang Cravy Woodruff (as a sleeper) Burgos (outside shot) By late 2017, I think you could add: Ortiz Bickford Perrin Lopez (comeback candidate) Jorge Ortega (comeback candidate) Adrian Ventura (outside shot) Morton, as an extreme ground-ball pitcher, only intrigues me if he comes cheap. But I might look for some pitchers with similar GB/FB and GO/FO ratios for the bullpen. But for the rotation, I think the Brewers could deal Anderson, Guerra, and Garza, wait to see if Peralta and Nelson pull it together, and try the other seven out to see if they have a sleeper or three. All that, and you didn't even include Davies. So the list would be deeper. I'm not disagreeing with your assessment, but I think if you can get reclamation projects like Morton cheap, they are worth a shot.
  10. Yeah, I'd rather have him with the team. Probably just as important for him to learn how to be a professional at this point. Not sure his body could take the wear and tear of the D-League. I'm sure they are working a strength regimen with him. I think he's going to be special.
  11. Brogdon has been a nice surprise, I was worried he may be too slow, but it hasn't been exposed badly yet. I hope they find a few minutes here and there for Maker, and I'm sure they will as the season progresses. Would love to see this team with Middleton. Such a shame he is hurt.
  12. I think both starters get rocked tonight. Not sure who's going to win, but I'd pick the over. Stay tuned for 1-0 pitcher's duel.
  13. I'll take the long game humiliation, the Cubs win tonight, the fanbase rejoices. Theo decides his job is done here and walks away. They bring in someone even "smarter" who systematically destroys the team. Instead of years of domination, they try to be too smart, and are one and done. Floundering back into mediocrity. We read article after article over the next decade about what could have been. I guess I should state that I think the Cubs are the best team this year, they deserve to win the Series, and while I can't stand the fanbase...these guys are pretty much too young and talented to hate. They're fun to watch, regardless of the uniform.
  14. My Dr. buddy told me that 85% of cases are due to alcoholism/gallstones. The other 15% is a mystery. Not a good answer, but it is what it is. I guess we fall in the 15%
  15. I went through the exact same thing a few years ago, stalton. I didn't know why they kept asking me about drinking. I rarely if ever drink. When I finally was released, I spoke to a DR. friend of mine whose first question was "They all thought you were an alcoholic, didn't they?" Sorry you had to go through that, painful, and gut rest is miserable. I've not had a recurrence, hope you don't either.
  16. Sorry Patrick, my comment wasn't directed at you, but the previous poster. I agree that TT seems to set a roster in the summer, and stick with it. I'm never a proponent of spending wildly in FA, but smart small moves can pay off. Additionally, if you think your team is a Super Bowl contender, you have to make moves to steady the positions like CB. Knile Davis is something at RB, but not sure he is an answer.
  17. They were losing, and would have lost to the Bears, had Hoyer not been injured. They beat Matt Barkley, beating him tells you nothing about a coach, only losing to him does.
  18. The Arch is downtown, nothing else that you mentioned is considered downtown. The museums are in Forest Park, which is not considered downtown. The Arch is, the stadiums are, City Hall, etc. All downtown. The river front area is considered "downtown". So, nothing I said was false. Your understanding of the STL neighborhoods is lacking.
  19. They weren't rebounding very well. Hibbert just owned them on the inside, which he shouldn't be able to do at this point of his career. I saw numerous times where he was getting 1 on 4 rebounds, which is just outlandish in the NBA. I liked Delly last night, GA looked good, Beasley was actually interesting when he was in the game. Vaughn doesn't belong on the floor, Jabari had moments, but they were just moments. Need him to establish himself more. Plumlee looked clumsy and slow. I would rather see Maker on the floor than Vaughn.
  20. I wouldn't call downtown STL a dense urban settlement. It's fairly well avoided. If there isn't a game going on, downtown is a deadzone. Ballpark village is nice, and I'm sure some luxury condos will sell for it's proximity to the stadium, but it's a novelty at best. The big money in STL lives in the 'burbs, and a bit further away in Central West End. Ballpark Village has succeeded because it has basically put every "ballpark" bar out of business.
  21. I heard an interview with Mike Lombardi, who pointed out the vanilla feel of the Packers offense. His point was that, due to TT's aversion of free agency and trades, the Packers are left to build solely through the draft. In doing so, your team is inherently younger, so you can't roll out advanced concepts as you would with a veteran team. He also knocked TT for his draft only philosophy, likening it to the stock market. You may have success in stretches without diversifying, but ultimately it will likely fail.
  22. Neither MCW or Monroe is worth a dollar in the trade market. Teams have moved away from the big sluggish Centers. He may sign a contract somewhere as a free agent, but no one wants to give up anything for him. If they did, he would be gone. MCW is a dime a dozen. If he wasn't rookie of the year, he would be just another draft bust. I agree that we've had more success drafting than trading, Milwaukee isn't exactly a desired location, I don't think marquee free agents will come unless we win. In trading you have to give to get, and we don't have much to give of value.
  23. [sarcasm]The answer to this is obvious, you only protect one...Garza. The rest of the league will think we know something that they don't. His value will skyrocket, and we send him to the Nationals for Harper and Strasburg (assuming Dave Stewart becomes the new GM of the Nats)[/sarcasm]
  24. I really don't think MCW had trade value. This was in line with my expectations for it. That being said, he was the leader of our second team and had value to the Bucks. I won't mourn him leaving, but I think they could have signed a 3&D guy in free agency. Puzzling move, hope Tony works out!
  25. I'm pretty thrilled with the return for Segura, I'm not sure we would get Diaz again after his year at A. As far as Davis, I assume you would still be upset in the return. We would get prospects back, which is what we got in the first place. Maybe better, maybe worse. At the time of the trade, Nottingham was very well thought of.
