  1. I agree that we probably don't want to give up the pieces it will take to get Noel. I actually enjoy Plumlee, and think he's not that far off from the center we need. I think you get the best package you can for Monroe, maybe a first round pick in the mid/late part of round, and a 3 and D guy. I'd be happy with that return. Use the first on Poetl, who I'm not a huge fan of, but may develop. Use the Monroe pick on a draft and stash, or a lottery ticket like Thon Maker.
  2. I don't want to see Braun in the game. We're being so careful with his health, I'd hate to see him waste a game that doesn't involve the Brewers.
  3. I've been to both, the traveling exhibit is pretty cool. There is usually a theme to the trip, so expect memorabilia to be somewhat in line with theme. If not mistaken, when I saw the traveling exhibit, it coincided with the opening of the Latin American player exhibit in Cooperstown. Cooperstown is so worth the trip. It's like time travelling. Can't wait until my boys are old enough to appreciate it, such a beautiful town/cool place.
  4. I've really enjoyed Villar so far. I kind of expected him to be pretty good. He was DS's steal from Houston. I think of him like Podsednik with Melvin.
  5. Well played, Casey, well played. I haven't been out to River City, they advertise them around here as St. Charles. Serves me right for trying to correct someone else!
  6. Not to nitpick your phenomenal reporting, Jim, but River City is actually in St Charles, MO. The Gateway Grizzlies are in Sauget. I used to work security for the Grizzlies, and they were the originators of the Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheeseburger promotion years ago. Beautiful stadium. Would be a great place for a new Milwaukee AAA team . It's so rare that I have obscure knowledge, I just had to share it!
  7. I have an electric smoker, and not sure I have the attention span to have a "classic" one. I still have to check/add chips hourly, but I don't have to worry about maintaining temperature. One of the best gifts I've received, we've really gotten good use out of it.
  8. I wouldn't touch Howard with a 10 foot pole, the rest I agree with. He's a locker room cancer, injury prone, and on the downside of his career. Not a fan. I think Poetel will be the name everyone talks about, I didn't like watching him get dominated by Sabonis. I would love Dunn, but I can't imagine he drops. I'm good with Baldwin, I don't know much about the overseas guys. Not the best draft for high end talent, this feels like a role player draft.
  9. I think you do that in a weak draft. I think the club needs an "A" player, I'd rather take the chance on that than 2 B+ players. We are pretty stockpiled on quantity, I would focus on quality.
  10. I'm really not worried about flip candidates, or even lightning in a bottle out of any pitching signing. We just need someone that can eat some innings. We're running out of viable options. Start bringing in the old soft tossers to take a few turns through the rotation.
  11. I lived in North Pole for 3 years. There are times I miss Alaska, but not the amenities. Happy that I had a water source while I was there, friends who lived in Salcha were not so lucky.
  12. I got back into cards from about 2003-2008. I collected heavily as a kid, and loved the look of the newer cards. There were so many different sets, incorporating prospects, current and older players. I blew through a ton of money on them. I still have a nice Brewers personal collection, mostly of people no longer with the team. I collected for Brewers and players I liked, not really for long term value. I sold/traded high value cards to pay for the stuff that meant something to me. I still have a nice HOF autograph collection, and some other stuff that will raise in value as older players pass on, but as a whole, my collection is pretty low end value wise. Cards are so expensive now, and like someone said, you are basically buying a box for a few "hit" cards, that may be worthless. I love the thrill of ripping packs, but I just can't justify the money. For the cost of a box, I can probably cherry pick ebay for all the cards I would have wanted.
  13. Where are you in Alaska?
  14. It is a business, which is why they have to keep some actual baseball players on the team. Braun is this team's Geoff Jenkins. The guy who is good enough to go somewhere else, but will be kept so that the fans have someone to cheer for. The $20 mil isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, I would guess there would be a pretty good decline in attendance from the common fan if they traded away our "superstar". I think for a Braun trade to happen, we would need a young star in return (already in majors). You can get away with trading Lind for mystery prospects, can't do that with Braun...or Lucroy for that matter. The fan base will need to see something tangible.
  15. I like Santana. I have no rational reasoning for this, he seems to have a little "clutch" in him. Most likely wrong about this, and I'm sure he has failed more often than succeeded, but he seems to have come up big a few times early in the season. I enjoy watching him at the plate. Also enjoying the vintage Braun of late.
  16. Sam Freeman is making me wish for Ariel Pena. Maybe they should have kept Hellweg, he would fit into this bullpen. Maybe DS should ask DM if he still has Kameron Loe's number??
  17. The national attention/competition that comes from playing at Duke or Kentucky outweighs the benefit of being the MAN on a NC St or Georgia Tech. A lot of these guys play together in AAU, and like the idea of continuing on in college (Oden/Conley). Oddly, the pressure can be less at a Duke where there are other superstars.
  18. He was my favorite player growing up, mostly because I was a slap hitting second basemen too. I got the chance to go to spring training in '05, and was going to a DBacks/Crew game. I brought an 8x10 of Robin/Gumby turning 2, with the hopes of seeing Yount (he was coaching with AZ at the time). Yount wasn't at the game, but Gantner was a visiting coach for the crew, I was pretty shocked when I saw him wander onto the field. I ran down to the dugout to see if he would sign the picture (I should say, that sadly, I was in my mid 20s, and probably a bit too excited). He was happy to sign. Yost and a few other coaches came over to take a look at the picture and comment. He asked me why I had the picture with me, as he just happened to be in town with the team. I didn't want to tell him that I brought it for Yount, so I just told him he was my idol growing up, and I always carried it on the off chance. He chuckled and shrugged.
  19. Ah, didn't realize that. I live outside of STL, so FSMW is my default selection. Every other FS channel just gave me the local programming. Interesting, and good to know.
  20. Paying for the sports pack on Direct TV will get you other programming on FSN, but not Brewers games. You have to buy the MLB package to get MLB games. You will get a lot of college volleyball and other sports though.
  21. [sarcasm]I would argue that Kirk will remain younger than Presley, regardless of outcome.[/sarcasm] Sorry, couldn't resist
  22. I think the team factor slightly plays into the early rounds, by the time the Sweet 16 comes around, you're buying tickets for the event, not the teams involved. Are there people who follow regardless...sure, but I think overall, the tournament is sold as an event rather than specific games.
  23. There always seems to be a market for Garza like pitchers at the deadline (assuming he is performing adequately). IMO, deadline deals don't worry tremendously about future salary, or longterm viability. They solely want an arm for half a season (along with the playoff ideally). The deadline is also the time where you get surprise deals, with more coming in than expected. GMs are under pressure to find the last piece, and common sense can float away for moments. Garza has little value in the offseason, as GMs have time to think...and aren't desperate. Essentially, if you have time to plan a menu and eat...you make reasonable decisions. When it's 2am and you're starving. You talk yourself into gas station sushi, you'll worry about the likely food poisoning later on. Matt Garza is gas station sushi.
