  1. On the bright side, there would be a lot of quick games. Losing 1-0 or 2-1 makes for some less than 3 hour affairs.
  2. Why would the Braves trade Hudson and LaRoche for Soriano? I don't think I would trade La Roche for Soriano straight up.
  3. Obviously this is not good news, hopefully it's as minor as Ash makes it out to be, but I'm not optimistic that way. Anyway, I'm trying to come up with some names of pitchers the Brewers drafted and turned out to be pretty good. There just doesn't seem to be many. Sheets recently, of course. Anybody want to come up with a list?
  4. There is something about hot stove action, as even my tiny little weblog's visitor count is up about 60% from a few weeks ago. From 5 to 8? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. Which may increase the importance of the summer college leagues as well. Being in a Northwoods League area (La Crosse), that's pretty good news.
  6. The draft remains at 50 rounds per team, yet many scouts expect to see clubs pass once organizational needs are filled. Unless there is a college-bound player that the team really thinks it can make a run at signing, I would expect this as well. For a team like Milwaukee, the lower half of the draft has include a lot of DFE candidates over the last 6-7 years, I don't know why they would bother drafting/scouting guys they can't do that with anymore. Maybe to show a player you are interested in him or something, but it would be more symbolic than anything else.
  7. I think you might be low on a couple of the arby-eligible players, but it certainly looks like it could work. Having said that, I just don't think it's in a team's best interest to have almost 1/3 of their payroll tied up in one player. Extending Wells would most certainly take a Soriano-like contract, so Mark A. would be committing those kind of dollars for 7 or 8 years. Not a good move for a financially-challenged team, IMO.
  8. I agree with sbryl, I think it's position dependent. If you draft a 3B or C who is deficient, he's likely going to end up in a corner spot, or maybe 1B. That certainly makes him less valuable. However, if a player projects as a good enough ML hitter, I don't think position/defensive ability matter much at all. For instance, I can't imagine Billy Butler won't hit enough to find a position on the diamond, although he will likely DH a lot in the AL. I actually think it's more difficult to take a plus defender/weak bat in the NL, where you already have the pitcher stinking in the 9 hole.
  9. I kind of doubt he's available with them looking at Wells leaving.
  10. IIRC, the FA ranking is based on the previous 3 years performance. No one is sure what the ranking system is, I don't think, but it's not just based on last season.
  11. "What is that?" "It's my left breast." "How did you get a picture of that?" "Right time, right place." The lecherous Creed is turning into a terrific character.
  12. Only in terms of how stupid the signing will look. I'm talking about giving big money to a guy because you love his arm, rather than like what he's done at the ML level. Granted, Clement was coming off a much better season than Padilla, but both have warts and, if someone coughs up 4 yrs/36 million to Padilla I think they'll regret it as much as Boston regrets the Clement contract.
  13. Doesn't Padilla feel like this year's Matt Clement?
  14. This is awesome! After a far-reaching survey of prince of roy and lucabus, Brewerfan.net is the worst site ever 2 years running! We are officially on a streak.
  15. I have also heard through a friend of mine who is also a friend of Phil Garner, that Houston is going to make a push to get Carlos Lee. Based on this I would consider that a stronger possibility than Carlos ending up in Chicago.
  16. Just a note, the off-season baseball begins soon for Brewer farm-hands. Lorenzo Cain and Darren Ford will be playing in the revived Hawaii Baseball League. Play starts on October 1.
  17. Iacono. Hmm...., isn't he the guy on that commercial with Snoop Dogg?
  18. Pretty sure I saw that Mike Adams was claimed on waivers by Cleveland and sent to AAA.
  19. ?I was online and I saw, ?Dodgers trade for Hendrickson,?? Hendrickson said. ?Then I opened it up and it said they got Hendrickson and Hall and I was like, ?Holy crap!? I thought it was [Milwaukee Brewers infielder Bill Hall]. Interestingly enough, I did the same thing yesterday. I nearly fainted when I first read the headline.
  20. Outfielder Chuckie Caufield, the soon-to-be 23-year-old 39th round draft pick out of the University of Oklahoma, has signed with the Brewers. He's currently in Maryvale. But does this Chuckie hack on 2-0?
  21. Amazing to look at that link and realize that Neugy would only turn 26 next month. Gosh, he could have been good.
  22. Just chiming in on Jeffress' signability. The good thing about this is that we are not hearing a bunch of people say it was a reach or that Jeffress was picked because of signability. Obviously there is a range of opinions (Colbyjack not so excited, John Sickels really likes Jeffress), but it doesn't appear to me that the pick had near as much to do with signability as it did with Jeffress' skills.
  23. It will be on MLB radio and I think it's on MLB video this year as well.
  24. Ben must really like Nashville. Get George in here. Don't you mean Jorge? I feel bad for Little Ben, but he's looking more and more like a AAAA pitcher every day.
  25. This little blurb showed up in Baseball America's prospect report today. MIL HiA Rogers, Mark .............. 0.1 4 4 3 1 1 8.22 - L (0-2); throws hard, gets hit harder ouch
