  1. Having a good fielder like Gomez bat second is like saying you kind of like Bob Dylan's voice and then asking him to sing an opera.
  2. Feels like it should be a laugher right now, but I ain't laughing.
  3. Pretty sweet play by Gibbons, but I still give Gomez the gold medal.
  4. Vin Scully is the best there is. He's already taught me things about the Brewers today I didn't know. You have Braun's high school stats? He played soccer? Prince wasn't just named after the singer but also had a great uncle named Prince? etc., etc. Incredible.
  5. I guess I liked the 1990 World Title Reds team because I was just a year or two in to my introduction to baseball. When I think of the Reds now I think of 5 Brewer homers in one inning, Chad Moeller hitting for the cycle, Bill hall's walk-off suicide squeeze in one of the biggest comebacks in franchise history after he hit a two run walk-off homer the night before. I really haven't been able to garnish that hate to Cub....or even Cardinal proportions.
  6. Betancourt has some very solid numbers against Garland in his career. In fact, if we were planning to give Casey or Rickie a day off anytime soon, I would have done it today and stuck Counsell in.
  7. I really like this line up ... I am 100% for Braun in the 2 hole and fielder in the 3. Start watching the number of times late in the game that Gomez comes to the plate in the 2 hole and just think, would I rather have him batting or Braun batting?A few years ago, Yost moved Braun and Fielder out of the 3-4 slots in the order for a week. Prince and Braun went into his office and told him to change it back. They were uncomfortable moving out of the roles they were accustomed to.
  8. Also, they redefined the term "no-hitter" a couple years ago. Before that, 5 inning no-hitters counted. Then there was this one: http://www.baseball-refer...s/CHA/CHA199007010.shtml The fact that Hawkins never pitched the bottom of the 9th, since he was losing 4-0, means it was stripped of it's no-no status when the rules were changed.

  10. I'll second "Can Bill Hall Pitch"? "bf.net mentioned on ESPN news" was a pretty momentous one. EDIT: I guess I missed the "worst" label. Any political argument before that was governed was pretty awful.
  11. I understand Ethier had/has the sexy hitting streak, but if it's true what they say- A walk is as good as a hit- then Braun had the same streak of reaching base. After that, Braun finished the month with 10 less ABs than Ethier and had 9 more runs, 7 more RBIs, 7 more home runs, 4 more stolen bases, 3 more walks, 5 fewer strikeouts, 150+ more points in slugging, and an OPS approaching 1.200, while Ethier's was under 1.000. Their OBP were nearly identical and Ethier's batting average of .380 was slightly better than Braun's .367. Other than the sparkling "hitting streak" phrase that people love, I don't see how Ethier really deserved it more than Braun. Granted, I would not have whined if he had won it.
  12. Not sure if you have a misprint at first or if that is making fun of Carlos Lee's start at the plate by calling him Cliff Lee.
  13. I have run into a million Cub/Packer fans. Man, it annoys me. In a way, I almost prefer Cub/Bear fans. At least it's consistent and not just choosing the more fashionable MLB team and the more fashionable NFL team. I was wondering if anyone has ever known someone who mixed and matched the two less trendy teams, the Brewers and Bears. I know I haven't and those closest to me haven't. Just curious if someone has experienced that anomaly.
  14. Man, I hope not. I wouldn't want the Crew to play 18 innings (especially the bullpen) going into Philly.
  15. They're on pace for a lot more than that. That would be their pace if the game was over.
  16. Love the trade. Some people said this would shatter Gomez' confidence. If the guy's confidence can really be shattered by the existence of Nyjer Morgan, then I never wanted that guy to be starting for my team down the stretch or in the playoffs in the first place.
  17. Glad Lee is gone. It's not that he was that great, but I just got sick of seeing him. That happens to me for players who were with he Cubs so long (though I realize he ended the year with the Braves).
  18. I'm not trying to say this in a mean way, but I just got so exhausted hearing people who wanted to fire Doug because "he didn't get us any starting pitching in the offseason." I've heard that each of the last two years on a wheel. Of course, big free agents never want to go to Milwaukee, so he had his hands tied. Now that he went out and did what he had to do, are we cool with the man, or is the argument going to be to fire Doug because "he gave up our future to get starting pitching in the offseason"? I've always loved Doug. A small market franchise can die for a decade if the get a bad GM (cough cough BANDO cough). Doug never let us die as a franchise even when we struggled. If you fire a guy like him and pick up the wrong guy, you kill the team for a long time.
  19. I am old enough to know that saying "Yeah, we're really good now, the favorites of the division, but we'll struggle in a few years" is the best position a Brewer fan can ever be in.
  20. My deepest sympathies. You and your family are in my thoughts.
  21. Man, if only Gamel or McGehee could play SS.......
