Honestly this is probably a good thing for the Brewers. We aren't competing with the Mets of the world to make the playoffs. Giants were one of the teams we would likely be competing for a WC spot with. The Giants getting worse helps us way more than the Giants being better.
How does comparing it to teammates make it any better? It still doesn’t show any context.
All the stat shows is how many balls were hit in a players catch radius. It doesn’t show quality of catch, the size of the catch radius.
Stats are used to tell stories. The only story RF tells you is roughly how many baseballs were hit in a player’s vicinity. Nothing about the quality of defense they play.
Range Factor is probably the most useless stat I’ve seen. It’s literally put outs plus assists divided by innings played or games played.
That does absolutely nothing to measure the quality of plays in CF. It just measure the quantity of plays in CF. It’s pretty much useless as a tool for evaluation because it includes absolutely zero context.
I had heard about this article but wasn't able to read it because it was paywalled. Why am I not surprised that Lauer is the one who said this? He definitely has developed quite the taste for speaking out to the press (not that it is a bad thing but it has happened both here and San Diego)
I wouldn't say Pepiot dominated. He had a 5.42 FIP, 6.69 BB/9, and 26.4% GB-rate in his 36 MLB innings last year. The results were good with the 3.47 ERA but the underlying numbers were very far from dominant which to me means he had a lot of good fortune with his super limited sample size.
I'm not saying BTV is the end all be all, but Burnes for Henderson, Hall, Rodriguez is nearly a $100M overpay on BTV. It's not even remotely a fair trade. I doubt Baltimore would even accept Burnes for Henderson straight up.

I'm also going to clarify this. Barring a big improvement and season next year he still shouldn't be put on the 40-man next offseason. In 480 PA this season Garcia slashed .259/.300/.407 with a 4.0% BB-rate and 33.8% K-rate. In his 108 PA at A+ he didn't draw a single walk. He needs to make substantial improvements to be deserving of a 40-man spot next offseason.
If the Orioles did ask for Burnes it would be managerial malpractice to say Rodriguez doesn’t have to be included. I still can’t see them trading Rodriguez though. Would be such a short sighted move from a team whose window is just starting to open.
You said Woodruff's extension doesn't kick in until his final year of arb? Either Woodruff is older and his extension kicks in during 2024 or Woodruff is younger and his extension kicks in for 2023 which factors in two arb years and is too big of a contract.
Castillo's contract takes him through his age 34 season. If Woodruff's extension kicks in during 2024 like you said then it would take him through his age 35 season (a year older than Castillo).
So which is it?
