If Lux is the main piece the Brewers are getting back for Burnes then I wouldn’t even bother trading Burnes. No thanks on a low/no power middle infielder.
If rumors that Woodruff needs shoulder surgery and will miss all of 2024 are true then he would absolutely have a reason to guarantee himself some money.
EBJ had that single in his first AB and has 3 strikeouts since then. I do have to say there are some doubts/questions entering my mind on his bat. Hopefully he can stay healthy next year and put those questions/doubts to rest.
See you’re literally calling it a bad contract again. If it’s a bad contract Brewers are just eating money to get rid of one of their best players.
Sure people can talk about this but the idea of trading Yelich is as realistic to the idea of the Brewers signing Judge in FA last year. It’s never going to happen so nobody talks about it. Yet this site has been trying to trade Yelich for years.
Look at the Brewers contracts over the next 5 years. We have literally ZERO need to get off Yelich's contract. None. Nada. Zilch. By the time our prospects get expensive in their final 2 years of Arb Yelich would be off the books. We aren't the Rays. We don't run bottom of the barrel payrolls. Just because they made a trade doesn't mean the Brewers will.
The Brewers have 4 good OF prospects. The likelihood all 4 hit is incredibly low and in the crazy occurrence it does happen then there's always moving Yelich to 1B/DH. Brewers have basically no long term money outside of Yelich. There's no need to get rid of his contract. Brewers had a horrible offense this year and people are talking about trading 1 of our 2 good bats?? Are we trying to get substantially worse?
Yeah Rowdy and Lauer seem like easy non-tenders. I think Toro likely gets non-tendered because he no longer has options. Burnes, Adames, Williams are all guys who could get traded this offseason. Depending on the severity of Woodruff's injury, the Brewers could non-tender him or sign a 2-year deal with him to save money next year then have a bigger 2025 number with some incentives based on IP.
Okay so with all these negatives the Brewers would have to eat money just to get rid of his contract then right? It's just a non-starter. The whole discussion is silly. The Brewers didn't trade Braun just like they won't trade Yelich.
The contract is fine. There's zero reason to trade the face of the franchise and our second best player just to get off a contract. He's not going to get traded. People talk about it like it's actually a possibility and it's honestly just hilarious seeing that happen.
I've definitely been talking myself into a potential DW trade this offseason. I love him. He's my favorite RP the Brewers have ever had, but he's a RP. If Brewers can get something valuable for him then absolutely go for it. Like you said we have done an amazing job building bullpens.
This is so incredibly wrong. Brewers have dipped millions of dollars into player development. They were one of the first teams to spend a boatload of money on a pitching lab.
This was his exact quote, "When I was executing pitches the first couple of innings, we got quick outs, and a lot of ground balls, some strikeouts. Then when I stopped executing pitches, they didn't miss."
Yeah it all comes down to Burnes. Look at the other scores tonight.
4-0
3-1
4-1
In all of those games the team that won got an early lead and their ace delivered them 5.2+ innings and the win. Our "ace" gave up 3 HR and was an Abner Uribe shut down inning away from giving up 6 ER in 4 innings.
Burnes is just an incredibly frustrating player to watch and root for. He's immensely talented. Some of the best raw stuff in the league but he just gets in his own way in my opinion. His post game comments pissed me off so much. He said he was getting quick outs when he was executing in the first 2 innings...like what?? He needed 36 pitches to get through 2 innings face 7 batters. That's 5.14 pitches per PA. Brewers hitters led the MLB in pitches per PA at 4.02 this season. So Burnes was 1.12 pitches per PA above the best number in the MLB and he was talking about getting quick outs? Just so damn annoying.
Surprise lose again tonight but the 3 Brewers to play all played alright.
EBJ - 1-4
Mendez - 1-3 2B
Shane Smith - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO, 19 pitches, 15 strikes
Smith struck out Kyle Manzardo on 4 pitches which was cool to see.
Does Rowdy have power? Dude has 3 XBH since coming off the IL and 2 of them were in August. In September he had 1 double, a 34 wRC+, a .216 SLG, and a 31% K-rate. Rowdy just sucks now. Winker over him makes plenty of sense when you consider Rowdy isn't hitting for power or getting on base anymore.
