  1. Gallo also had gold glove defense and a huge walk rate to fall back on when the K's piled up. Which is really what the biggest issue for Hiura has been in the second half. His walk rate is 4%. A 7% decrease in walk rate from the first half and his BABIP stabilizing from .410 to .280 are huge reasons his wRC+ is 99 in the second half.
  2. There's a huge quality difference between LHP in the minor leagues and LHP in the MLB. Just because someone has reverse splits in the minors doesn't mean they will carry them into the MLB. DRS is the only metric that likes Urias at 3B and that's because he stands right next to the line and prevents doubles. Urias UZR/150 is 1.6 at 2B and -0.9 at 3B. His OAA is 4 at 2B and -4 at 3B. 2B is by far his best position. His arm just is not suited to plat on the left side of the infield.
  3. Do you have a suggestion who this "REAL" bat at 3B would be? Assuming Arenado re-ups with St. Louis and Turner's club option is accepted by LA then the best FA options are Jace, Drury, and Longoria. The trade market doesn't look too much better either.
  4. AAA championship weekend is in Vegas this year. Assuming Nashville wins the IL West they would play a 1 game playoff against the IL East winner (currently Durham) on Saturday, October 1st. If they win that game they would play a 1 game playoff against the winner of the PCL championship game for the AAA National Championship on Sunday, October 2nd.
  5. This just brings back to my question...who? The best 3B options in FA (in our budget) are Jace and Drury. Neither of those are very intriguing options. We could look for a trade but again who is out there? I have seen Yandy Diaz suggested by numerous poeple but his defense is horrifyingly bad at 3B. Just not much out there at the position.
  6. I think we could extend Adames in the 7 year $100M - 120M range this offseason based on what guys like Story and Baez got this previous summer. I also think the only way we can move Adames to 3B is if we extend him because moving a SS to 3B two years before he's a FA is just something that usually doesn't go over well with the player. Yeah Baty or Jung would be great options if we choose to go that route. I think going into this offseason our 4 biggest question marks are bullpen, catcher, third base, and first base. Getting a guy like Baty/Jung would give us a solution for half of a decade.
  7. There just aren't many realistic options for upgrading 3B this offseason. The easiest 3B solution for the Brewers would be extending Adames then moving him to 3B. HIs defense likely plays better at 3B than SS because his range to his left is his defensive weakpoint. His bat is definitely good enough to be a 3B and he becomes a plus baserunner as a 3B. We can move Urias to 2B. Brosseau can platoon with Rowdy at 1B. Wong can either have his option declined, picked up and traded, or picked up and splitting his time between 2B and DH against RHP. We would likely need to sign a short term stop gap at SS (maybe Jose Iglesias on 1/2.5) to split time with Turang at SS and get the AB's against LHP at SS. Against LHP the infield would be Adames, Iglesias, Urias, Brosseau. Against RHP the infield would be Adames, Turang/Iglesias, Wong/Urias, Tellez. This way we have 3B (a weak position in our farm system) locked up long term and it gives the Brewers a year to decide whether Turang is good enough to be an everyday SS.
  8. Diaz is one of if not the worst defensive 3B in baseball. He should be viewed as a 1B/DH not a 3B.
  9. Steven Kwan (rookie in Cleveland) is another comp. He's having a great rookie year. Slashing .298/.374/.397. 124 wRC+, 9% K-rate, 11 OAA in LF, 3.9 fWAR. Kwan probably a bit better than Frelick but they are pretty comparable.
  10. If it was an injury, I don't know when it would have happened. Maybe just wanted to give him an inning off. He's played a lot of baseball this year being his first full pro season.
  11. Agreed. A lot of his misses are missed up towards his throwing arm side or down to his glove hand side which to me means release point issues. I think it was his second AAA start he was dominating through 3 innings with something like 5 SO and 70% strikes and then he control issues kicked in and he had to grind the rest of the outing.
  12. Otis Nixon's records having a tough 10 days between Ruiz breaking his single game SB record and Singleton breaking his season BB's record.
  13. From what I have watched in Gasser's AAA starts is that most of his misses are just bad pitches. More control issues than command issues. He still has gotten plenty of chases when he hits his spots out of the zone.
  14. There are but they are behind paywalls.
  15. That was a brutal swing. The pitcher had already walked two in the inning, you are up 2-0 and you chase a ball in the dirt. Horrible.
  16. CAM ROBINSON IMMACULATE INNING TO FINISH THE GAME OFF!
  17. Navarreto hit a HR to push the lead to 17-1 in the top of the 9th. Bats pitcher next pitch in the middle of Frelick's back. Pitcher was rightfully ejected on what was very clearly a intentional attempt at hitting Frelick.
  18. Jansen would be a very Brewers move. Would love if they could get Kirk instead but feel like that only happens in some Burnes-Kirk type mega deal. Jansen with two years of team control fits the timeline well. He doesn't strike out much and is pretty athletic for the catcher position. Defense isn't great but we have been good at coaching that up in the recent past. I really hope we don't go into 2023 with Caratini, Severino, Feliciano taking up both the C spots on the team.
  19. The Padres also demoted Hader from closer and had him pitch 4 times in a 21 day timespan. Would Hader have been afforded either of those luxuries to get things right again in Milwaukee? Seems doubtful to me.
  20. And yet Rogers ERA as a Brewer is still over 4 runs lower than Hader's as a Padre.
  21. Hiura has seen two separate extended playing time periods this year. May 18th to June 25th he played 21 games and had 77 PA. August 17th to September 9th he played 20 games and had 75 PA. His wRC+ in the first 10 games of those extended runs were 172 and 171. His K-rates in those 10 games were 36.8% and 34.3%. His wRC+ in the second 11/10 games of those extended runs were 58 and 44. His K-rates in thise 11/10 games were 53.8% and 40.0%. So in both of Hiura's extended playtime runs he started extremely hot then faded and starting striking out much more. He hasn't done a very good job of justifying extended playing time.
  22. Among hitters with 200 PA Hiura is 2nd in HR/FB and one of only two players with a HR/FB rate over 30%. Here are the players with 10 highest HR/FB rates in baseball and their Max EV percentile. Name - HR/FB rate, Max EV percentile Aaron Judge - 36.2%, 99th Keston Hiura - 35.0%, 69th Oneil Cruz - 29.3%, 100th William Contreras - 29.2%, 97th Giancarlo Stanton - 28.9%, 100th Yordan Alvarez - 27.6%, 97th Michael Harris II - 26.5%, 88th Trayce Thompson (lol) 26.2%, 80th Byron Buxton - 24.3%, 92nd Mike Trout - 23.6%, 95th Hiura has always been on the higher side of HR/FB rate with a 23.9% career average but he's upped that level this year to Judge level despite having a 69th percentile Max EV. I think it is safe to say that Hiura probably couldn't maintain such a prodigious HR/FB rate with everyday playing time considering his physical limitations. If Hiura's HR/FB rate was his career average he would have 10 HR instead of 14. If you give him 2 doubles and 2 outs instead of those 4 HR his OPS would drop from .780 to .722. People talk about his amazing numbers against RHP but he is rocking a 44% HR/FB rate against RHP. The next closest player with 100 PA is Judge at 35.4%. I'm guessing the Brewers just don't think those numbers are sustainable for Hiura over extended playing time.
  23. Hiura has amazing numbers against RHP which is certainly awesome, but those numbers are on the back of an unheard of 44% HR/FB rate against RHP. The next closest among players with at least 100 PA is Aaron Judge at 35%...Hiura's HR/FB rates put him as a prodigious power threat despite a max EV in the 69th percentile. There's just so many red flags in his game between the ridiculous HR/FB rates, ridiculous K-rates, and the lack of anything to fall back on (defense) if the bat falls off.
  24. One thing I have loved about Ruiz is how good he is at bunting...like he seriously is one of the best bunters I have ever seen. Such a nice wrinkle that isn't very prevalent in the game anymore.
  25. And yes Hiura has a 118 wRC+ but he's also one of 2 MLB players with a HR/FB rate over 30%. The other is Aaron Judge. It's unlikely that Hiura can maintain such a prodigious HR/FB rate over a larger sample size considering his career HR/FB rate is over 10% lower than what it has been this season. If Hiura's HR/FB rate was stabilized with his career average he would have 10 HR this year. If you take 4 HR away and turn them into say 2 doubles and 2 outs his slashline goes from .231/.318/.462 for a .780 OPS to .221/.309/.413 for a .722 OPS
