  1. Drury isn't an upgrade over Urias.
  2. This is basically the deal Rizzo signed last year. This was the most I was willing to do for Bell, but the addition of Winker made it hard to fit him in with the current roster.
  3. Rogers 24 G 23.0 IP 5.48 ERA 7/10 SVHLD 17 scoreless, four 1 run, and three 4 run. Hader 19 G 16.0 IP 7.31 ERA 7/9 SVHLD 14 scoreless, two 1 run, two 3 run, and one 6 run. Was shutdown for 2 weeks in August as well. Mosr of the blown saves occurred before the 8th inning, so having Hader doesn't solve that. 17 BS in 14 G with a 3-11 record in those games. Brewers were 2 games under .500 the 2 months before the Hader trade and 2 games under .500 post trade. The Hader trade didn't sink the season.
  4. It was nice having Burnes, Woodruff, and Adames. Sad to see they'll go.
  5. Winker had a 108 wRC+ last season in a down year with a career 126 wRC+. Seattle is a pretty extreme pitcher's park. He makes contact (career 17.1% K%) and walks a lot (career 12.9% BB%). He should see almost no time in the field because he's bad defensively, but the potential is there for a middle of the order bat.
  6. Mitchell isn't maintaining a .548 BABIP over a significant stretch.
  7. Houser signed for $3.6 M already.
  8. The offense was good last year, and it accomplished by really having a hole in the lineup. Are biggest hole over the entire season was C, but that's because Caratini and Narvaez fell completely off a cliff after the trade deadline. They were right to attack the pitching that had been an issue, and they probably should have grabbed a SP in hindsight.
  9. It's not the best rule, so I imagine it gets reworked in the next CBA. I think it pretty much guarantees that Chourio isn't up before September next year, so we don't lose the extra year if he forces the issue midseason and performs well.
  10. Not necessarily OD, but they have to accrue a full service year to be eligible for the draft pick, which might as well be OD.
  11. If they feel Frelick and/or Wiemer can win ROTY, they need to be on the OD roster to be eligible for the comp pick for doing so.
  12. The Brewers were 6th in the majors in 4+ and 5+ run games and T-9th fewest times held to 2 runs or less. They were one of the more consistent offenses in baseball last year. Their wRC+ w/RISP was 6th in the majors. I believe their wRC+ in High Leverage situations was also 6th in the majors. They were one of the more consistent offenses in baseball last year. This fetishization of a certain style of baseball just does not reflect reality.
  13. Winker posted a 108 wRC+ last season. While that's a down year from his career 126 wRC+, he's not a bad hitter.
  14. A Rule 5 player has to spend 90 days on the active roster before the Rule 5 waiver requirements are up. Putting Kelley on the IL for 2023 to avoid having him on the active roster doesn't exhaust that requirement for 2024.
  15. C Tom Murphy, 1B Robert Perez Jr. (#22 MLB Pipeline), RHP Isaiah Cambell as return for Wong was the package I put forward a few weeks ago. Part of that had Yandy Diaz in acquired before then. May look for something a little different given the current roster situation.
  16. You do know MLB Marathon just makes rumors up for engagement, right?
  17. Abreu or Bell wouldn't be replacing Tellez. They'd be replacing McCutchen and his 98 wRC+ last year.
  18. Abreu or Bell wouldn't be replacing Tellez. They'd be replacing McCutchen and his 98 wRC+ last year.
  19. 2022 was the best offense of the Stearns era and on par with the peak Braun and Fielder lineups by wRC+.
  20. Where are getting a 98 wRC+ in 2021? They're listed at 92 wRC+ on Fangraphs. Post Adames trade they were a 97 wRC+.
  21. Willy Adames doesn't have terrible discipline, though. League average O-Swing% was 32.6% in 2022 while Adames was at 33.7% with a career 30.4%. Baez was 48.7% tops in baseball with a career 44.8% chase rate. If we want to look at a comparison for another guy we can look at Ryan Braun who's career O-Swing% was 32.9%. This perception that Adames has no plate discipline is weird.
  22. I would agree, but it gives them another chance at a pick if the team thinks he's ready to play in the majors.. He doesn't have to be the starter for this. Jace Peterson had 300+ PA the last 2 seasons, and may have had 400 this year without the month missed to injury. It's a role he can be put in much cheaper than what it would cost to hang on to Peterson, and would be one area they could trim some payroll.
  23. The comparison you want to make is with their careers 2 years before FA. Story 2282 PA 114 wRC+ 20.0 bWAR 19.5 fWAR Baez 2473 PA 105 wRC+ 18.1 bWAR 17.3 fWAR Adames 2284 PA 111 wRC+ 15.5 bWAR 13.7 fWAR We're not even talking a significant difference between @UpandIn's top 6 year + 7th year option for $98 M and what lopping the last 2 seasons off the deal I would do. Mine would be 6 years + 7th year option for $100 M, so I don't think we're all that far apart in our evaluation of Adames. If we could do shorter, I'd do it. If we could do it cheaper, I'd do it.
  24. There's new draft pick compensation for not doing that if the prospect wins ROY and eligible for more with a top 3 finish in MVP or Cy Young during his pre arb seasons. If he's ready to go, you break camp with him to see if he performs. If he struggles, you can get that extra year back by demoting him for a few weeks.
