  1. I like the idea of drafting "name" players and capitalizing on the added value (false value--not talking about Fielder) that it adds before they are exposed. We should have done that with Tony Gwynn Jr too. I think that's what happened here.
  2. That may be a good picture of how many balls are out there if you are a) patient and b) have a good eye. Pitchers must just miss the strike zone that much because I have to believe they aren't avoiding counsell...
  3. I've seen some (message board) muttering that the Reds may be in the market for Reyes as well. That one would sting a bit.
  4. House is all about the evolution of the characters and their relationships (revolving, of course, around House), with a dash of humor. I don't think its meant to be watched for the medical mysteries anymore...at least that's not why I watch it.
  5. are you close to neighbors next door or in an apartment building? Maybe someone else's remote or something similar having an effect on your TV.
  6. I'm interested in this one too. I prefer a smaller/lighter bat. Thanks in advance!
  7. I'm going to go with Aqualung. Its the look on the baby's face.
  8. this new plush is totally ruining the old plush for me. Whomever was doing the first one was a genius. The real tony plush is.....not.
  9. I think Russell would be better for this team than Kotsay; but I recognize that will never happen. I'm mostly here to say how eternally pleased I am that a Branyan thread can grow to 4 pages in 2/3 days after all of these years http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. I hope they don't rely too much on Don Money's reports on this kind of thing because, let me guess, its negative...
  11. all it shows is that one game doesn't mean jack squat as far as judging "what works". There are no guarantees either way, so you go with what is most likely to work. And by "you" I mean anyone except RRR.
  12. Someone mentioned this in the IGT and its something that has been bugging me since last year. I'm getting really tired of all the histrionics every time Wolf is pitching and Lucroy is catching. I have a hard time believing it is Lucroy's problem since everyone else seems to be able to do OK with him. Its not just the shaking off and trips to the mound, its the obvious exasperation on Wolf's face several times a game (if not an inning). If I were Lucroy I'd want to knock his block off. Does someone just need to sit Wolf down and say knock it off or get a simpler sign system? How complicated does a sign system need to be (especially when there aren't people on base)?
  13. My cousin knows Homer and emailed him your chart topper09er. I did not claim the chart for myself and I'm hoping he gave you due credit.
  14. Attacking what seems to be a small sample (no sample?) type move by RRR with another flawed small sample argument doesn't wash for me. However, the argument that Gomez is hitting about his career norms and his career norms happen to suck is a better one to move him out of a high PA slot like #2 works better IMO.
  15. there is some first hand accounts in the Minor League forum somewhere, maybe buried in a link report.
  16. Seems like the work stoppage really derailed his career. He had gotten himself into pretty great shape for the draft and that season, then came back after the work stoppage at roughly 500lbs, and never was the same. Gotta wonder about the career longevity for people who shape up just for a draft. he actually had some good tools: size (obviously), soft hands, decent touch within 5 ft, and was a good passer. He never developed a jumper though and then put on all the weight and was immobile. now he is gone.
  17. a) How is Juwan Howard still playing? b) How did Jermaine O'Neal and Juwan Howard get to be the same age (physically)?
  18. horrible defensive lineup, and the extra Nieves black hole. Wonderful. Where have you gone George Kottaras?
  19. My point is that Gomez has been making a lot of outs his entire career, and that doesn't figure to change. It is a bad decision to put your (arguably since we do have Betancourt) worst hitter in the #2 hole. Hart would be a better choice. Kotsay would have been a better choice. Lucroy would be a better choice (god forbid he come back down to earth, and earth is where Gomez is). Braun or Fielder would be better choices. Even McGehee would be a better choice. Morgan was a better choice when healthy. Looking at the roster only Betancourt and Nieves would be worse choices.
  20. How many outs between his career .294 OBP and .335?
  21. Katin's OPS is 1.005 right now. I hope he gets a chance somewhere someday and I think he'll make good when he does. I would prefer it was with Milwaukee; but we seem too hung up in the Boggs vs Almonte debate to notice him.
  22. so is .309/.377/.491 more palatable to you? (a day later) wait, don't answer, he might go 0-4 today.
