  1. Posting this here to direct anyone interested to the softball forum. Thanks!
  2. I'm very glad we're in the NL because of the pitcher hitting. The ONLY thing I like about the DH is that it give teams a place to put aging players...would be a nice to make Fielder's contract safer for example.
  3. Anyone interested in getting a modified team together in GB or have an existing team that I can tag on to? I catch and have catching gear; but can play outfield too. My old team broke up because they were.....old.
  4. 14 years but only 99 PA's. Small sample size. The fact that those 99 pa's cover 14 years may make them even LESS relevant that if they had all happened recently. You can wish all you want that people wouldn't bring sample size up; but its the #1 problem with your position. It isn't "deep stats" thinking, its simple math.
  5. Actually, I've been thinking it ever since I got here: Why oh why didn't I take the BLUE pill?
  6. take the leap, man. http://lambeauleap.yuku.com/directory
  7. If we're not going to stick him at shortstop, I'd rather have him in the minors learning the position he'll be starting at next year. Learning to play major league defense is part of the equation (replacing Betancourt notwithstanding). If the Kotsay signing results in a release of Nieves, I'm all for it.
  8. True that he doesn't make them a great pitching or defensive team (which they are); but he has been the cog that made their offense go for years. Holiday helps; but not enough to overcome that loss.
  9. I know we have the capability here to take screen shots of what is going on at any given time on someone's computer screen...
  10. I wish wish wish they would have asked him if he thinks he can play shortstop. It would be nice to get some actual info on the conjecture that's been around for a while now.
  11. relying on statistically insignificant data to make decisions is an option; but it is not a good option in my opinion. I would rather rely on the statistically significant data that says Cameron is hitting in a different universe than Betancourt and go with Cameron at least until Cameron shows he is falling off the map physically.
  12. As a reasonable fan, I like it. I am always frustrated at the lack of replays for controversial plays. At the same time, I see that there could be potential for trouble by playing them. Comparing baseball to football and basketball is not valid in my opinion because anger at/heckling of the ump is more acceptable and ingrained in baseball etiquette. It also tends to be quieter at baseball games as compared to football (because of the consistent energy of the game) and basketball (because of the enclosed arena factor), so heckling is much more effective. Overall, I'm glad we'll be pushing the envelope.
  13. I didn't say he was a troll; but using the word may have been too strong. I apologize. Disagreeing and debate are fine with me. Great in fact. Gregmag made my point better than I could have.
  14. agree, the video boards are distracting and tacky in my opinion.
  15. Briggs, sometimes I swear you throw out stats you know others will consider irrelevant or that are based on extremely small sample sizes just to get a rise out of people. I wouldn't go so far as to call it trolling because I think you actually believe some of the things you throw out there; but its not far from it.

    SABR

They should do a Melvin Q+A just about Betancourt
  17. grabbing exactly the number of envelopes I need to stuff multiple letters.
  18. Using RBI and run rates is probably not the best way to go about comparing players. I thought Punto would have been a good/cheap option as depth and a stopgap compared to Betancourt. I can confirm that twins fans do universally dislike him as a player though.
  19. two things: 1) My wife is a teacher and it seems they will never settle on a new contract. This probably means there is money not in our pocket that otherwise would have been. We would get a lump sum whenever in that case; but not with interest. 2) The number of days, hours, minutes, seconds that exist(ed) in this week before the game that shall only be named at lambeauleap.net
  20. more to love about Greinke (and Meche) http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/archives/2011/01/greinke_talks_about_meche_infl.html
  21. that picture about breaks my heart....also really ticks me off re: drunk driving.
  22. There's not much that can unite all of us here at BF.net; but Witrado taking a walk would definitely be one of them
  23. Are we really concerned with this stereotype? Baseball's economic system is out of whack, my favorite team (and many other teams) experience the fallout from that flawed system on a yearly basis, and the Yankees are the embodiment of that problem. Sounds like something to complain about.
  24. Any dough/sauce cheese combo can be decent warm. The true test of a pizza is how it tastes cold the day after and Papa Murphy's fails miserably.
