  1. Considering Arod isn't even owed his whole contract by NY, half of it would be such a steal that I'd give up anyone we have and then giggle like a little girl for a few straight weeks.
  2. I don't even like the Tigers, but I've got to admit to welling up when they lifted Leyland on their shoulders. Me too, but not because I was happy for them. Instead, I was a bit emotional over how bad they sucked, yet we went another year without being able to experience that, and I want to for once in my life (last time doesn't count since I had just graduated from a crib to a bed with rails on the side).
  3. They might bite on that...an it wouldn't kill the brewers, so long as they tried to replace Capuano in some fashion Value-wise, it may match up, but I think that'd leave the Brewers foolishly thin in starting pitching, as we need to have at least one very good starter behind Sheets, and Capuano's the best we have while Yo is the best hope we have for another #1/2. I'd be much more comfortable giving up Braun or Weeks so we don't end up being another Texas that loses games 10-6.
  4. If you're going to use obscure stats to make your point, can you at least explain them. Its hard to agree with your points when I don't understand what the stats you bring up mean The ignorance argument is getting old. As they'd say in the south: that dog won't hunt.Simply because you don't understand it doesn't discount it at all. I don't understand physics, but that I shouldn't argue with a physicist because I don't understand all of his fancy-schmancy formulas and models. Rather, maybe it just means he knows what he's talking about. I can't have no idea what GDP is and argue with an economist that the economy is the way I say it is. Of course, if you have any evidence to counter someone's argument, even if it's not as detailed or "obscure" as their's (ERA or WHIP), you have legs to stand on.
  5. Most guys' peripherals depend somewhat on their makeup. K/9 (and K/BB), for example, is much more important for a flamethrower than it is for a knuckleballer. The peripherals interact to form the ERA, and are most valuable when you're trying to assess whether or not an ERA is an accurate picture. Some guys can "pitch to contact" and still be very effective, just like some can walk quite a few batters and make up for it with a low number of hits allowed. Curt Schilling can give up a lot of homers and fly balls but still have great overall numbers. ERA is essentially the main results section in a scientific manuscript, but to see where it came from and whether it seems to be valid or an anomoly, you read the methods section and look at secondary measures.
  6. Doug had a spike in his performance the last couple of years. This year he reverted back to his old self and that is at best an average arm. Freddy can eat up innings and give us a vet with some post season time. Garcia has by no means been consistently great. He peaked in 2001, then was below league average for 2 years before 2 solid years and than reverting back to league average this year. If there was a deal to trade Davis for Garcia, salary was even, and neither was signed beyond on year, I'd make it. I just don't think Garcia is enough of an upgrade to be worth several extra million. Postseason experience, to me, is worth close to nothing. A bunch of rookie marlins beat the Yankees a couple years ago. If we need postseason experience so badly, we can sign Kenny Lofton.
  7. Garcia is NOT worth $10M. Then again, Jenkins isn't worth $7M. Assume Jenkins is worth $4M, that'd make it like signing Garcia for $7M for a year. Do you do it? His primary numbers are acceptable, and about league average (102 OPS+), while his peripherals are certainly not bad. I guess it depends on how well you think our #5 will do next year. I would not be in tears over the move, because Villanueva could be a great long man, (though he could also be a better starter than Garcia - leaving you to pay $6M for a good long man) and someone else could be traded at the deadline, perhaps Freddy Garcia for some value. Also, it gives us depth and insurance against the kind of injuries that killed 2006.
  8. its still crazy to think that 5 years ago, the 40 of us would post maybe 50 times a day total...i honestly think there were days with fewer than 5 posts... It must've picked up pretty quick. By the time I started lurking in 2002 it was pretty active and it seemed to really explode in 2003.
  9. I'm hooked..I love baseball, but most of my friends can't stand it.this is a great way for me to talk and vent about baseball and the milwaukee brewers. That's why I'm on here so much most of the year. I've lived in Wisconsin during the summers, but I spend mid-August through may in Texas. Here, the majority of my friends are females who aren't into sports (only maybe 15 of the 60+ people in my department are male), and the few friends who like baseball have no interest in the Brewers.
  10. For those in their rookie season, many of us, myself included, do not go into hibernation. There's plenty to talk about here, and the off-topic forum still has plenty of material.
  11. first of all a guy with 600+ posts on this board is not a troll, I'm just a fan who's not in love w/ GJ & I place alot of the blame this year on him, Being a troll has nothing to do with post count and everything to do with repeating the same thing over and over with no intent but to cause trouble and start arguments.
  12. Value-wise, I think we could come up with some packages to put together for Crawford. Practially, though, I just don't think the teams match up, and see Colby's three-way idea as the only real possibility. They really don't have a need for infield or outfield prospects, which is what we have. They need pitching, and so do we.
  13. You don't have to apologize Straw, maybe just relax a bit, I know the Brewers had a bad season and all but your attack of my harmless post was pretty much uncalled for. Go out for happy hour and a have few beers and take a few deep breaths, GEEZ!!! Plus Jenkins didn't have that incredible last 2 months that many were hoping for Jenkins had a bad year (much to the chagrine of the masses) http://www.tntech.edu/earth/photos/iceland/images/DSCF0252.jpg
  14. I have a big rant with that too...Given the fact that a Pair of Abercrombie jeans can cost upwards of 160$ on occasion and time of year. I should take my jeans that I wear fishing and sell them for a ton. They have that cool vintage look from walking through deep brush and being beaten by the sun, sometimes they even get blood stains when a fish gets hooked too deeply. Now, I wear designer jeans ((Diesel, Armani, and Ben Sherman commonly)) and they cost me 115-130 a pair. TJ Maxx and the like are where it's at. Most of my jeans have $60-70 price tages on them, but I pay $25-35 at TJ Maxx. I own two pairs of Abercrombie jeans, and I paid $15 at TJ Maxx.
  15. Here we go again that people pigeon holing spots in the field for certain offense of numbers. Some positions are harder to play and have lower average offensive production. Damian Miller is more than acceptable as a catcher, but would you want him at first? The numbers would be brutal. What people are saying is "Crawford in left = pretty darn good. Crawford in center = great". Plus, we only really have Gwynn and Gross to fill CF, and neither is a lock to be a solid everyday player. Trades depend on value given vs. value received, and the value of Crawford would depend on his position.
  16. One time I was at Panera on Ogden in Milwaukee and this blond bimbo in a convertible Miata (or something like that) pulls into the handicap spot. I hate that. I used to work at a restaurant and we had one handicapped spot that was maybe 10 feet closer than our regular spots, which were never all filled and rarely half-filled (we did almost 100% delivery orders). I'd see people just hop into the store when you could see they had no handicapped tag and bounce back out. True, it wasn't often they took the spot from someone who needed it, because we only had maybe 4 cars come in per hour, but it irked me to see people so lazy in trying to save 4 seconds. One time, a coworker told a woman "you know that's the handicapped spot, right?" She replied that because the sign was only on the blacktop, and not on a post in front of the spot, it was not legal and we couldn't tell her not to park there. Essentially, she admitted to being lazy and not in need of the spot, and thumbed her nose at us. I've also known a few people that drove their parents' or grandparents' cars, which had handicapped tags, and they'd park in handicapped spots at the university - because they could.
  17. I'm also afraid I'll break them if I wear them while playing sports. Only one way to fix that http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/1999/draft/news/1999/06/30/transactions_draft/t1_grant_all_01.jpg
  18. This may belong in the other thread about Enzyte, but here's my new beef : Leptopril. So, it's supposed to be a "generic" version of an expensive diet pill. Well, actually there's no patent on the original because it's made of friggin' herbs. I wanted to know what the scam is - I always do this with informercially-sold pills. Here's the deal - it IS Leptoprin, the diet pill that's too strong for casual dieters. It's the same parent company that operates under multiple fronts with pharmaceutical-sounding names, this one is sold by their "Generix" branch. I know we had a weight loss thread before, but I wanna give advice again. Don't buy diet pills, other than a multivitamin if you wanna call that a diet pill. All of these pills are scams, and you can get the same results from drinking black coffee which you can make for 50 cents a gallon. Better yet, don't buy anything sold only on television, it will invariably be a scam. If nobody buys this crap, the ads will go away. There, my rant is over. Oh yeah, one more thing: pop-up ads on mlb.com and team sites. Does MLB really need a few pennies of revenue from travel companies. Also, automatically playing that stupid talking Babe Ruth plaque commercial.
  19. The way people drive in parking lots, The way people open their doors in parking lots. I can't imagine owning a car worth more than a few grand, because people will recklessly swing their doors open into other cars, especially kids. Parking spots are apparenly just too small when a nissan altima is close enough to the cars next to it to get dented up.
  20. Eventually, they'll probably go professional boxing on the fans and put the big games on pay per view. I don't watch much outside of Packer games anymore, but it still bugs me that some games are not on basic cable.
  21. Kansas City and Tampa Bay are the only clubs I can imagine taking a flyer on Hendrickson. I do see him as having some value, as he's had serious success in he minors in the past. Still, he'd be a small part of a deal, or traded for a low-ceiling guy in a change of scenery thing. I can't see Krynzel being traded for anything, as I can't see a team willing to put him on the 25 man or trading for him and immediately DFA'ing him.
  22. That eliminates everything except the $10 bill, and you really can't wipe out Alexander Hamilton given his lead role in the design of our monetary and banking system. If anyone takes away my right to talk about how I'm droppin' Hamiltons, so help them, so help them...
  23. My friend and I actually had a movie discussion recently about how few good movies don't have some sort or romantic element. Seriously, when you really think about it, they almost all have some romantic sub-plot and it's really annoying. Not everything in life has to do with love, and major accomplishments have been made by people who were totally single and not doing it to win over the girl/guy or their dreams. Even horror movies and thrillers are always about the jilted lover of the couple that was madly in love before the killer took one of them and now the other is out for revenge. It's stupid.
  24. Condescending people who explain things and end each sentence in "ok?". Often this is a southern thing, but nobody does it like Bill O'Reilly. I had to work with an old guy that talked like that all the time and I wanted to slap him and let him know that I've got 8 years in college, and he doesn't need to act like he's dumbing things down, especially because he consistently mispronounced words. Panera Bread The Packers Towns that don't plan well and develop everything in one area with insufficient roadways. The fact that myspace is one of the most popular sites in the world yet never works well and it takes forever to load. Any rap song about rims or cars. People who decide that the H in many words is silent. "That Gilbert Brown is one yooge yooman being". Ridiculous, three hour commercial breaks on talk/sports radio. Having highly-educated friends that all feel like they have to claim to enjoy jazz music because they're educated. Volkswagens People falling for pseudoscience and buying snake oil. They realized 100 years ago that colonic irrigation and toxic poop buildup is pretty much bogus, yet people fall for it today. In a similar vein, people who think or claim that all things that are natural are completely safe. Alright infomercial guy, let me shoot you up with this big syringe filled with cobra venom because it's all natural. Also, I've got some natural hepatitis blood here, care to pour it in you open wounds? Paying a one day late fine when you return a DVD 15 minutes late. When the campus parking office changes the most convenient lot from commuter to resident pass, tickets you $35 on the first day of school for parking there, and says they won't drop the fine because the change was posted on their website.
  25. Mr. September, Geoff Jenkins, is doing it again.
