Another good athlete who can tackle at CB. If Gannon can coach those two up(Cisse and Jackson)... the secondary looks better. Healthy Parsons and Wyatt and you don't need as much from your CBs in coverage.
-
I'm not sure the point here. Nobody in the draft has played CB in the NFL. You're still drafting trying to improve that position. We're counting on Aaron Banks who is 5 years in, Sean Rhyan-4 years in and Anthony Belton... plus Jordan Morgan to be a better LT than Rasheed Walker... and hoping that Zach Tom can come back from a very difficult injury and be as effective. Right, but this is why it's generally not a great idea to take part of one sentence from a quote and then making an inference based on that. I didn't say they needed help just because I watched their OL play last year. They didn't exactly have a dominant OL the year before that when Walker was playing at a much higher level than he did last year, you still have Elgton Jenkins, a healthy Tom(didn't see where they said he'd be ready for Mini-Camp, but the fact remains, even looking at this OL optimistically, he's the one player who looks like he'll be above average. This was part of my post, but... doesn't fit the narrative that I'm only looking at last years unit to arrive at the conclusion that we could use an upgrade on the OL. The fact is, they signed Rhyan to what amounts to a cheap deal because the FA center class was so weak and we have nobody else who is a viable backup. That was a move likely made out of necessity, but some abundance of confidence that Sean Rhyan will be a better Center with more reps. He'll be starting his 5th year. But god help us if he's not a better C. He had a 38 pass blocking grade by PFF. -I didn't also certainly did not suggest they should draft a LT to replace Morgan. -Banks being bad and or hurt isn't much of a departure from his time in SF. I would say looking at how they played last year is more of an indicator than what rounds they were previously picked in or how much they were paid(especially with regard to Banks)... but more than that, the obvious importance of an offensive line and how the teams that have beaten us being the ones who can control the LOS, that would probably be a better reason than either.

Bucks hiring Taylor Jenkins as new head coach
BrewerFan replied to HarryDoyle's topic in Other Sports
There's just not much to look forward to. I want to see how Deign can develop, what they can get for some of these spart parts. I suspect Kuzma will be traded, maybe Portis and then hope they can hit on a really nice player in the top 10 and get a good package back for Giannis. Even that though, you waited a year too long and... his value isn't as high as it was last year. So we don't own our 1sts, we're likely to be trying to be a play-in team and Giannis, now 31, is probably gone. This hire would have been GREAT if it was right after Bud. -
Yeah, but it was still a pretty bad unit. The LT hasn't really played LT, Tom has a serious knee injury, Rhyan was an upgrade over Jenkins at C, but that was more about Jenkins and Banks was both injured and bad at OG. There were people saying Morgan was a better LT than Walker last year, but Morgan provided versatility than Walker didn't. Banks being healthy could help. We've already paid, so might as well take that out of the discussion, he's locked in. Rhyan, have to hope a full year playing Center helps him play better and the most important part would be Tom healthy and ready to go week 1. I'm glad they went CB/DL over Edge/WR... as fun as it would have been to grab Hurst. I hope this improves Gute's Batting Average in the 3rd rd....especially when trading up.
-
Yes... because Greenard was better than Gary last year despite being hurt. Better pressure %, better vs the run, better the previous two years... and while I think sacks are a bit overrated, he had 12 and 12.5 the previous two. Now he moves to a much better DL.
-
I hate the Vikings. Just giving the Eagles a guy who, with Carter and Davis, should get 12+ sacks. Brilliant.
-
I wonder if we'd go McCoy in the 3rd rd if he's available? I want to hit the OL/DL, but... McCoy may be worth the risk(I know you just said you care more about the position than player, but... still).

The Next Wave of Brewer Extensions - Who would you pick?
BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
I think we may be talking past each other a bit. I was saying Pratt was a bit of an indication they were being a little more aggressive or changing up their approach a bit, not comparing Made to Chourio, but... it doesn't really matter. We'll see what happens.- 22 comments

I was kinda hoping they'd go with Pregnon, but... hard to complain. Still lots of picks.

BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
I guess they're the same as in they both played in AA, but I disagree they're the same "development spot." Chourio was dominant in AA after they went back to the normal balls(they'd experimented with those tacky balls). Hit well over .300/.380 with a .544 SLG the 2nd half of the year. I don't recall the speculation that he needed to spend time in AAA. I also didn't say they would or wouldn't have signed him before the start of this year. I'm talking about right now...- 22 comments

I think they may be changing the schedule. We signed Pratt when it looked like he would need a full year in AAA. I don't think it's a stretch to think they'd be approaching Made. And I think he's going to be much more expensive just because he's so much more valuable. A SS/3B vs a LF? We'll see, if they haven't talked to him coming into the year, we should be right now(and then I would call him up). He's maturing in every way that you'd hope he would be. Worst case is almost bringing him up, no contract and he gets called up late this year and then you have him on the active roster heading into the 2027 season... and you may lose most of a year or service. All we can do is speculate though.- 22 comments

It may be semantics, but it's really easy for me to see WHY Atlanta made the trade. At the time it looked like they were getting their franchise catcher... an elite defensive catcher who could hit .250, walk and hit ~20 HRs. Contreras on the other hand, he was not a good defender. I don't think the Braves thought he was playable as an everyday catcher. Good hitter though. The first year, the Braves looked... fine. Murphy was a stud, but he's been awful since. So did the Braves just fail or are the Brewers just that good at developing catchers AND pitchers? We currently have a kid who is just raking who wasn't even the starting catcher on his College team in Dinges(I know, there are extenuating circumstances, but it'll make for a better story when he gets called up). Whatever you conclude... another huge win for the Brewers.

What are we thinking it'll take to sign Made? I'm starting to think it'll be a MUCH bigger deal than Chourio. 10 years 140 with ~15 Signing bonus and then... I think the tough part would be do we get a TO or two. 2 TOs at 30M per year with a 5M team buyout? The team options would take him to For arguments sake, you sign him, call him up now. Setting aside how it'd be difficult to move him to 3B when Pratt was ready(and he seems a little while away yet). I'm ONLY bringing his name up as a Baseball player, but you look at Wander Franco, they're really pretty similar players. I think Franco was considered a better pure hitter, Made more athletic, more speed, but two SHing SS's who should hit for power and average, draw walks? As good as Chourio was as a prospect, this is a much more valuable player. 3B seems like a fallback now. I don't think we've seen even close to what Chourio is capable of, but still 8 years left. Anyway, Made is I think maybe the best prospect the Brewers have ever had. If he gets to FA by 25, 26, he could be a 1B player(just based on the trajectory of contracts). I suppose you could take the Juan Soto approach, but I'd prefer to keep him in Milwaukee for a very long time. I DO wonder if there's some nudging by the MLBPA to get him to turn down an extension.- 22 comments

I would to, but IF they sign him... I'm starting to believe he'd be a big upgrade for us. Contract takes precedent... which sucks because that's not how sports should work but... obviously it is. It wouldn't be that crazy though. McGonigle and Griffin, they had ~200 PAs and ~100 PAs in AA ball. Griffin got 5 games in AAA this year, but that was just until they worked out a contract.- 22 comments

The Next Wave of Brewer Extensions - Who would you pick?
BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
Yeah, but he's special. I think it's a really stupid idea without a contract, but he's showing everything right now. More walks than Ks, hitting the ball hard, can handle the velo. I don't think AAA does a whole lot for prospects like Made other than give them a place to play so we can say they need to work on something for 2 months before getting called up so we don't lose a year or service. I think he'd both be better than Ortiz(though I'd be playing him at 3B) and I don't think it'd ruin his confidence. But I have a feeling the Brewers would have gone to Made before Pratt when talking extension. Also, if you look at the two guys ahead of him, they played no AAA ball. They played partial seasons in AA and they got the call. Again though, I would not consider it without locking in those extra years of control. Otherwise you're just getting a couple years where he's figuring it out and losing what could be, if he develops the way we think, MVP caliber years.- 22 comments

Blocked, struggling... AND a lot of service time. Contreras wasn't even the counter with the Braves getting Murphy. He was going to be blocked by the very player the Braves were acquiring(though I get exactly what you're saying, not trying to be pedantic). No question that was a stupid trade on behalf of the As, but I'm certainly glad they did. Contreras is going to be like Adames for me. When he leaves, I'm not even going to be angry. I'm going to be happy he's getting paid, mildly frustrated at the system, but also resigned and hope he gets paid by someone else. Anyway, I can say with... a high degree of certainty, we're not trading Made, certainly not anyone who'll be a FA after next year. If we do make a move that's aimed at helping this team, I still hope it's a young power arm. Grant Taylor... is the guy stuck in my head, but I'm pretty sure the White Sox wouldn't trade him. But maybe someone else who is struggling. Or make it Taylor and just pay a lot(Logan Henderson+ would be worth it for me, though I suspect others would feel differently).
-
He's basically been good in two series. It's early, but we also had Vaughn at 1B, Chourio in LF and Yelich at DH. That changes our entire offense. Ok. 18-year-old SS prospects who are raking at AA and the #1 prospect in the Minor Leagues are available far less often. I don't think anyone would come particularly close to beating Made for Pena. You're getting Pena for this year and then MAYBE next year, then a FA. I would imagine the Astros would jump on that trade immediately. Doubt they'd even feel the need to field other offers. I'm kinda surprised you think it'd cost Made-Plus, even if there were a bidding War. He's a ~700 OPS type guy who plays good defense at SS. Players like that... they aren't that rare. Lets go back a couple years and think about Adames. The Os offer Gunnar Henderson or the D-backs Corbin Carroll. We're not shopping that deal, we're jumping on it.

I don't know... have we seen THIS from them? A rotation with Skenes, Chandler, Jared Jones coming back, Keller, Ashcraft, and then Mlodzinski? That's a really talented rotation with 6 quality arms. Cruz is a guy we've talked about trading for on here because... I think most suspected a monster season was bound to happen with his bat speed, exit velo and just underlying offensive metrics. I would expect Konnor Griffin to get better as the year goes, Bryan Reynolds was a good hitter the 2nd half of last year. O'Hearns is a really solid 1B. They have some power arms in relief. Wouldn't be THAT shocked if they were competitive and brought up Seth Hernandez... but everything would have to go right for them. I could pretty easily see them winning 90 games. As far as being "worried" about them? If the Brewers can get going, mostly get healthy and Yelly can get back and be an 800 OPS guy, Chourio I think was due for a big breakout and then Vaughn... I think he's legit, that's a really good 1-5 in a lineup(Contreras+Turang) and I think Frelick will come around, Mitchell... has been pretty good. Rengifo I believe he'll hit. Just good ABs and some tough luck hard hit balls, but if those things happen, plus Priester, I think the Brewers are good enough and deep enough to win... but the Pirates are a scary team.

The Next Wave of Brewer Extensions - Who would you pick?
BrewerFan commented on CheezWizHed's blog entry in Cheese Wiz Curds
Misiorowski is just going up and up in value... and I would guess we've already approached Made and were too far apart(as it sounds like we were with Mis). There's a lot of "call Made up now" momentum on X or other places... and I'd actually be alright with it... IF we had a 10 year 120M extension in place. The kid would become a FA at 29 and get paid now. If it takes 140M, I'm fine with that also. Get him time at 3B also. But no shot would I call him up now just so the Brewers can watch him get the first Billion dollar TV deal when he's a 25-year-old FA SS.- 22 comments

It's really not a stretch. The Eagles OL is a LOT better than what the Packers had out there last year. They have an elite RB who forces teams to play with another man in the box quite a bit. They(Philly) struggled vs press man and Wicks was very good there. With Waddle, AJ Brown, Hollywood Brown plus a pretty solid TE in Goedert... at the very least, comparing last years offense to what the Eagles offense looks like, it should help him. He was also the 2nd highest graded WR we had last year. The whole hierarchy or being able to pass them is reliant on the chances you get. He didn't get enough last year. If he plays like he did his rookie year or last year, I think 65 catches 800 yards as a 3rd down threat is easily attainable. The Packers had to create more snaps for Golden and room to be able to draft a rookie WR. Getting a early 5th rd pick(the Falcons 5th) and a 6th rd pick is just really good value for us.... but I think Wicks will be well worth the 12.5 for Philly. Yeah, he was awful his 2nd year with drops. But he was elite at creating separation. He was very good again last year in his limited opportunities.

We just made a trade using our starting pitching depth when we trade Peralta and then added Meyers. I really don't like giving up Myers... but seeing Sproat, even with his warts thus far, I'm more encouraged. But I wouldn't be looking to trade away more. Unless you're concerned Logan Henderson can't hold up... or you could get a real impact arm. Grant Taylor was the guy I was really interested in. Not sure why the CHW would trade him unless... they don't think he can start(and I believe he's only throwing out of the pen right now) and you're looking for more "value." I'd do Henderson and Drohan for him. I may be underestimating Henderson though. He feels like a guy who won't hold up and I don't really have a good reason for saying that. He's not much different from Peralta's profile. He's just not a 6'3+ 220LB+ pitcher. I think he would be best served in a role similar to Hall or Ashby... but vs RHPer. Not sure he'll ever give you 170IP(feels like 200IP ~20 years ago). Outside of a... legit RHed bat, a... Braun type, adding a HL reliever would be my biggest priority. Someone with team control. But that's a priority beceause we have depth elsewhere.

Lara's start has been really exciting. I think his floor is a Blake Perkins replacement... but his ceiling could REALLY round out the Brewers lineup... the OF. I think he'll end up being our starting CFer. Feels like a pretty disappointing start to the season for this minor league system, but we're... not 10 games in yet. Where are we expecting Williams to play if he's going to be up by the ASG? Utility? Move around between SS, 3B and CF? I don't even know if he's playing any 3B, but I'd like to see him there as an option.

Brewers skipping Sproat this weekend
BrewerFan replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
LOL... literally earlier this week someone pointed out how it's been a good start for Harrison and Hamilton while couching as being WAY too early to make any declarations and... even then you told them to slow down! Can't win!
