  1. You can never have too many good players. Beckham's value is probably lower after last season, but not so low that you couldn't flip him if you wanted to. Or you could make him the 3B of the future and deal Gamel or McGehee.
  2. Me too. I know he had a bad season in 2010, but I think Beckham could really develop into a star player yet.
  3. I don't know. But when I look at Braun's contract, stats, and business ventures...I don't see a guy who is dogging it or wants to leave Milwaukee. During the same program this afternoon, Sparky mentioned that he has heard (secondhand) that Braun wants to establish himself in Milwaukee and likes the area. Take all that for whatever it's worth.
  4. Zenith is now owned by LG Electronics. I would have to assume a Zenith is just a re-badged LG at this point (not that that's a good or bad thing).
  5. He was basically saying that Braun would look at his stats and "know when to turn it on" to get his stats "where they should be." I think this all discounts that McCalvy and others insinuated Braun dealt with an injury much of the year. He also strongly hinted that Braun isn't thought of well by members of the front office, which seems like a pretty strong accusation. Of course he didn't really elaborate on that too much.
  6. I have to believe voters looked at Hernandez's 249.2 innings pitched. The man was a horse this year.
  7. Witrado is on WSSP right now, basically saying that Ryan Braun "only turns it on when it counts." Also said that his stats this year were "empty." Further, that he would probably try harder playing somewhere else. I can't imagine too many other beat writers just slagging one star player like he routinely does.
  8. Doesn't he technically have two years left on his contract? But yeah, I get that he would probably be fired if they miss the playoffs again.
  9. I think it's worth exploring. I would probably do a straight up trade at this point...not sure if Kenny Williams would, though.
  10. My point was that Melvin didn't act like he was in a big rush to deal Overbay. Looking back, he was traded on Dec. 7, 2005, so it wasn't as late as I remembered.
  11. OK, maybe I overstated when I said "really good". Maybe "really good by his previous standards" is more apt. 24 years old, put up a solid season, seemed to be on the upswing, etc.
  12. Aren't these voted on at the end of the regular season?
  13. Well, a lot of it is the usual "gamesmanship" on his part. He isn't going to come out and say, "We're taking offers for Fielder now! Get them to me by next week when I have to make a decision!" Remember, Lyle Overbay was traded fairly late in the winter when he was dealt to Toronto. They even used him on that "fashion show" thing on FSN when they unveiled the retro uniforms. Sometimes big trades don't happen until January or even February.
  14. Oh gosh, when I was first selling electronics and plasmas came out, I heard so many silly rumors about them. It was pretty funny. Some of those are still around, too. I think my favorite was a customer who told me a Best Buy rep had told him that you had to "recharge" the gases in the plasma set on an annual basis.
  15. I think the "extend Fielder" talk just has to be lip service at this point. Fielder has already turned down two extension offers, so I can't see them realistically hammering something out at this point.
  16. That reminds me...make sure to calibrate your TV's picture settings when you get it home. Most sets come with the contrast setting way too high (this is sometimes called "torch mode") because they look better in the store that way under the bright lights. Leaving your television set like that can prematurely ruin it, though. If you aren't sure how to properly adjust your TV's picture settings, you can do a search on a site like avsforum.com and someone will probably be able to tell you.
  17. The thing is that Melky was really good in '09, then just fell off the map last season. Apparent conditioning issues.
  18. I can't disagree with anything you said, FIB4Brew. If Melvin can't swing a trade of prospects for pitching (like a package centered around Lawrie for Greinke, etc), we're kind of screwed, though.
  19. Brewers leaning towards keeping, Fielder, apparently.
  20. Well, you want to be somewhat careful. There is such a point where a TV can be too big for its purpose. Like if you're only sitting seven feet away, a 60" screen is probably too big... you'll feel like you want to crane your neck back to take in the whole picture. I don't know what size the OP's room is or what the room layout is like, so this could all be irrelevant. There's some kind of formula out there for determining ideal TV screen size, but I can't remember what it is off hand.
  21. This is true, as long as you aren't going with bargain basement unshielded cables that can be prone to interference. Monoprice.com sells good cables at very competitive prices, like someone mentioned. I can say as someone who used to sell Monster cables (and owns some of their products) that they are good, but way overpriced. There are less expensive cables that are just as good out there; they just don't have the Monster marketing behind them. They do have a lifetime warranty though, which I've heard Monster is very good at honoring. I wouldn't worry about that, personally, though.
  22. You might be right, and I wouldn't want to see the Brewers give up all that for "just" Jon Lester. I really think Prince gets traded 1-for-1 for a guy like Gavin Floyd, or Melvin hangs onto him going into 2011. No one is trading young cheap high upside guys right now. Just my hunch.
  23. Very few trades in MLB are contingent on an extension signing, at least that I can think of. I remember that happened when Johan Santana was dealt to the Mets, but that's about the last one I can remember. It's just very messy from a trade negotiation standpoint, and there aren't salary cap issues to deal with like in the NBA.
  24. Given all the coverage Prince's appearance at the meetings has generated, I have to believe this is a plausible theory.
  25. Yeah...it's kind of depressing to think about, honestly. Along with Attanasio's talk of negotiating with players, who then they put Milwaukee on their no trade lists once they sign with another team...it all just emphasizes how important it is for the Brewers to develop from within. Melvin's hands are basically tied when it comes to making a big trade or free agent signing most of the time.
