  1. Endaround...you have to at least admit those "values" have no real world correlation to actual contracts, though. Maybe if teams paid guys in Monopoly money they might mean one thing, but since they have to pay actual dollars, no team is going to sign Pujols to a $40 million/yr contract.
  2. Tim, the TV is only 60 hz, so it might not be ideal for sports viewing. Otherwise it's probably fine.
  3. I love our plasma TV. We bought ours last February (50" Pioneer Kuro...Pioneer unfortunately is out of the TV market now, but this is a fantastic set). I personally feel that plasma looks more natural and does blacks better than LCD, but some people like LCD better for whatever reason. The glare is a concern for daytime TV watching with plasma, though. We have drapes in our living room, so it's not a big deal for us.
  4. Don't forget JJ Hardy was "worth" like $22 million a year at one point too. I guess according to that, we should have been paying our middle infield a combined $40 million+ per season (if we had re-signed Hardy, obviously).
  5. I don't see why the Brewers would have interest in Papelbon. The bullpen isn't a position of need right now, and I would hope Melvin has learned his lesson in acquiring expensive aging relievers (he'll be 30 next week). I'm not opposed to seeing one of Jeffress/Rogers/Odorizzi traded, but hopefully not more than one of them.
  6. According to a Google search I did, Prince does indeed have a house in Orlando, but I have no idea how accurate that is.
  7. You can say that's his "value," but would a single team pay him over $13 million a year? The Yankees already have Cano, but I don't think they would even do a contract like that for Weeks right now (assuming it's a multi-year deal of at least four years). Let me be clear...I'm not against doing a multi-year deal with Weeks. I just think it should be reasonable to expect it to be around $8 million a season, given his previous injury issues, versus the $12 million plus figure some of you are throwing around. Edit: 10,000 posts! Woohoo! Proving I have way too much time on my hands.
  8. If the Braves actually offered that to the Brewers, I would guess Melvin would have the trade papers signed before he hung up the phone.
  9. Yeah, so obviously we can pay him that, right? Why is everyone talking like we have the Yankees payroll now? Seriously, some of these comments seem insane to me. $12 million a year for a half year of a pretty good second baseman isn't a "good deal" any way you slice it.
  10. Everything I've heard indicates that Lawrie absolutely would not be a good defensive option at SS. Their options there are either having Escobar solidify himself or going outside the organization. A lot of big figures suddenly getting thrown around here. Reminds me of all the talk about extending Sheets after the 2008 season.
  11. Weeks is going to be very good and he will be worth more than 50 million This is a pretty prescient statement. Or he could just as easily suffer another mysterious arm injury and not live up to his next contract.
  12. I heard some brief Bucks talk (can't remember which station), but it was very much in passing. Homer couldn't stop going on about Bielema running up the score, and 1250 was a non-stop PackersFest (I think they were doing some kind of Packers related event broadcast). Just very predictable overall, I guess.
  13. I was wondering if you could provide a link Invader3k? I'm not sure how to do a link off Twitter, but here's the original tweet: @mlbtrorlandoBen Nicholson-SmithSounds like Boras and Fielder are here. That should make things interesting.
  14. Weeks isn't worth what Uggla is, and he shouldn't be paid as the 2nd or 3rd best 2B in baseball behind Utley/Cano. He simply hasn't done enough yet to earn that contract. Well said. I think there's a lot of homerism on this board when it comes to Rickie Weeks. Let's face it, 2010 was his first really good year that wasn't hampered by injuries. That doesn't warrant a contract pushing $50 million at this point.
  15. It's definitely not an exciting return, but they weren't going to get much for a 2B with one year left on his contract. Maybe they just wanted to move him so they could pursue more long term options. The key might have been Dunn, who seems like a pretty solid reliever.
  16. Trade just announced by Jerry Crasnick on Twitter. Seems like a good move for the Braves, and at least the Marlins get something back for him. Obviously the contract negotiations weren't going anywhere with Uggla.
  17. Just realized they've been using the "new" logo for 10 seasons already. Seems weird to think about.
  18. I could see the brick red I've always wondered if they might try this someday. The brick red is so subtle in the logo that I think most people would go, "What the hell?" Probably best left untried, really.
  19. JDLR would have more upside at this point, but I fear he may require three years or more. Pretty risky.
  20. Francis doesn't warrant more than a one year deal at low salary (maybe with some incentives). Pretty mediocre career numbers and missed all of '09 with an injury.
  21. I realize this past Saturday's Badger blowout win and the Packers' bye week demand non-stop discussion. Oh yeah, the QB for the Philadelphia Eagles had a big game on Monday Night Football. These topics demand some pretty heavy dissection, this is true. Is it too much to ask for some Brewers talk on either of the two Milwaukee sports talk stations, though? I realize that's a lot to ask here in Wisconsin, I suppose.
  22. The only possible scenario for a Fielder extension I can see is if Boras has taken a real hard look at the 1B field out there. Maybe he's thinking waiting until next season might not be for the best with Gonzalez and others out there next winter. I really doubt it, though.
  23. I don't know if they would do it or not, but usually money talks in these matters.
  24. That's what I'd have to assume. Hopefully someone "in the know" will start spilling the beans soon. This is going to be a long (but hopefully fun) hot stove season.
  25. I would think your best bet would be to sell them through a local collector's shop of some sort.
