  1. It's one thing to be optimistic; but I agree with the assessments that while Wolf is probably better than what he has shown thus far this season, the rest of the rotation is pretty mediocre (aside from Gallardo). Parra is so up and down that he's hard to count on at this point, Bush is a solid #4/5 type starter but nothing more, and Narveson is too prone to "big innings." I just don't see how they'll be able to sustain a real push towards contention. Maybe they can finish again around 80-82 wins, which isn't really that exciting when we were in the playoffs just two seasons ago. I think a lot of people are just frustrated that Melvin is probably going to use this latest hot streak as an excuse to not do anything. They team will inevitably fade down the stretch and then he'll be forced to consider trading Fielder and/or Hart this off-season at diminished value. Now, if he isn't currently getting legitimate trade offers, that's one thing...but it seems like other GMs are able to do more with less and get creative to make things happen. I realize this thread is about Wolf. He had a great outing last night, and I hope he keeps it up. We're going to need him to be solid again next season.
  2. Bush's quality not equating to trade buzz. "I get a kick out of teams talking about all of these other pitchers, and [bush] has more quality starts than all of them," general manager Doug Melvin said. "He's pitched as well or better than some of these names I hear on the trade front. "His name never comes up. That's fine. That's Dave Bush. He always goes under the radar." Almost sounds like Doug is saying, "Hey, give me a call about this guy and we can talk."
  3. Jeffress going to Huntsville now. Good sign.
  4. Maybe his comments are just an attempt to sell the deal to the fans and nothing more?
  5. It takes two to tango, as the saying goes. They've already tried extending him twice, and he has rebuffed them both times. He and Boras haven't shown much inkling to even negotiate with the Brewers, reportedly. It seems to me Prince isn't interested in staying here beyond 2011, as actions speak louder than words. Give him what he wants and show him the door...in exchange for a high quality trade return, of course.
  6. I'd assume if a trade like that was possible, it would have happened by now. I guess things can change in the next five days, though.
  7. Doesn't seem like the Angels gave up all that much to get him. I wonder if Melvin even kicked the tires on him or not.
  8. Yeah, we've been hearing, "This string of games will make or break the Brewers' season", for like the last month and a half.
  9. I doubt it. Gerut has been on the DL since May. At some point he had to start rehab, right?
  10. So can we safely say he isn't being traded at this point?
  11. Yeah. If, for example, Sanchez is the absolute best offer you can find for Hart, I'd probably still do that trade. I wouldn't be excited about it, but at least we would have a pitcher able to help us out next season. I just can't see how Hart's value is going to be so much greater this off-season than it is right now (even if he continues hitting at his current pace). Prince I think you can make the argument for, but I'm not sure about Hart.
  12. Not sure if that was directed at me. I always enjoyed watching him, too. It's just a shame he could never stay healthy enough to evolve into a truly great pitcher. Early in his career he looked like a possible future HoFer. Now he'll probably be lucky to pitch a few more decent seasons before hanging it up. Just bad luck, bad conditioning, whatever. Much like Geoff Jenkins, he stuck with the Brewers through some pretty awful seasons. It's too bad he couldn't even pitch in his one chance at the playoffs with the Brewers, though. All that said, I hope he's able to bounce back from this. I am glad the Brewers never did that long term extension many here were clamoring for, though.
  13. Six days from the trade deadline, and there doesn't seem to be much going on with regard to Fielder talk. I think the White Sox will stand pat or settle for a lesser back (like Berkman or someone similar). Maybe this is the right move if no teams are willing to give up a good package.
  14. He seems to be coming back around. Hopefully yesterday was a confidence builder for him (not like that's something he normally seems to lack anyway). What's encouraging to me is that even though his OPS is "only" .809, his SLG is at .474. He just needs to lay off some of that outside junk and his OBP will go back up.
  15. Yeah, I'd have no problem with Macha using Hoffman in a save situation, even if it's a one run version. Axford probably needs a day off.
  16. Edmonds and Hoffman to San Diego? Would give both a legit shot at the post-season, and give Hoffman a chance to finish out with the team he spent the majority of his career with.
  17. I can't imagine what it would take to pry Greinke away from the Royals. Probably start with Rivas, Gamel, Lawrie, and go from there.
  18. I don't know if you're being sarcastic because you don't think Edmonds will bring back much of anything in trade (which is probably pretty much true), or you really think we should just keep him around the rest of the season for whatever reason.
  19. I can't wait for the day when one of these idiots runs into a group of players and promptly gets a beat down to remember.
  20. Does seem weird that Dunn isn't playing. Just a routine day off, maybe? Also, glad to hear that Hart isn't seriously hurt. We really don't need him going down, regardless of whether or not he is getting dealt.
  21. My guess is he probably gets a spring training invite from someone next season, but I highly doubt he gets a contract.
  22. As far as Prince, I think he will get a bit more than Howard (simply because he's younger), but nowhere close to Mauer/Teixeira money. I think Briggs is probably close.
  23. Yeah, I agree with TLB. Dunn is one of the most underrated players in the game, to the point where it's gotten ridiculous. You can basically count on him to hit 40 homers, drive in 100+ RBIs, draw a ton of walks, and strike out a lot. Not really seeing the signs of a decline coming up.
  24. Inglett must have awesome career numbers against Ohlendorf. /blue
