  1. Yeah, I don't see how people justify these huge extension ideas for Weeks. He's finally having a good and injury free season, but how can we confidently assume he'll keep it up? And people want to give him $40-50 million? Just seems really short sighted.
  2. Frankly, another big spending team in the AL might not be the worst thing in the world.
  3. Just saw on ESPN that apparently MLB has cleared Mark Cuban to bid on the Rangers. http://www.businessweek.com/news/2010-07-22/mark-cuban-can-bid-on-texas-rangers-league-decides.html
  4. The back and forth regarding Prince and Hart continues. Haudricourt now says that Fielder might not be dealt because the White Sox can satisfy the Brewers' steep demands, and don't want to deal Beckham. Olney claims multiple teams are interested in Hart: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/99014834.html?commentSubmitted=y&refresh=15745#comments ESPN' Buster Olney writes in his blog this morning that the White Sox are having a hard time satisfying the Brewers' demands for a Fielder trade without including former first-rounder Gordon Beckham, which they don't want to do. The Brewers are looking for power pitching in return and Daniel Hudson doesn't really fit that bill. ... The Brewers want a young, established starting pitcher in return for Hart. And if you've watched their games this week, you know why. The beatings this pitching staff has taken throughout the season have been ugly to watch. Without some major upgrades on the pitching front, this team won't be competitive next year, either, because there is no pitching in the system that will be ready for the start of 2011.
  5. I think that's a bit debatable. They've all been pretty bad. It's like trying to pick the worst of three different diseases. I got this from Fangraphs: Parra: 4.35 xFIP, 6.35 ERA, 1.84 WHIP, -0.65 WPA Wolf: 5.20 xFIP, 5.20 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, -1.60 WPA Narveson: 4.29 xFIP, 5.66 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, -0.72 WPA
  6. This article mentions either John Danks or Gavin Floyd, plus Beckham. Seems more like speculation, though: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/2522874,CST-SPT-sox22.article
  7. I just don't think going after Haren makes sense for this team at this point. I think I'd rather hang onto Rivas than go after an aging and much more expensive pitcher.
  8. I have to give props to Haudricourt for this line in his latest blog post: The one starting pitcher not ravaged over the last four games, Chris Capuano (one run in five innings on Monday), was subsequently removed from the rotation. That’ll teach him to be effective.
  9. This quote about sums up this team lately: “It’s no fun,” said manager Ken Macha. “You sit there where I sit, and it’s no fun.”
  10. I didn't watch much of the game tonight, thank god. Old South Park re-runs and MLB Tonight were more entertaining. I think this was probably the worst start of Wolf's career.
  11. Flipped over to MLB Network. The updates on Strasburg's latest outing are a lot more entertaining than the crap the Brewers are trotting out tonight.
  12. Assuming Beckham is even available, I think it would be fairly foolish to turn around and flip him. It would be much more realistic to deal Weeks at that point. Beckham will be young, good, and cheap for several years. Weeks will get more expensive and is a free agent after next season.
  13. Definitely. I'm not convinced Hudson and Vicideo are enough in return.
  14. Crazy idea...if the Brewers did acquire Beckham in a trade, could they then flip Weeks for a decent starting pitcher? I know he probably wouldn't bring a top prospect, but maybe a solid younger #3 type?
  15. Interesting to read about. If Melvin can somehow get Hudson and Beckham, it would be a tremendous coup. I don't think we'll get Beckham; but I think the Brewers might be able to get much more value than just Hudson and a questionable corner infield prospect.
  16. I really can't see anyone claiming him at this point. If he was claimed, a trade could possibly be worked out as well, right?
  17. Another point lost is that if the team does decide to buy (which I absolutely don't want), what is there out there to actually "buy?" Obviouly they would want a top tier starting pitcher, but Lee has already been dealt, and Oswalt will probably end up with the Yankees or Phillies. Haren is out there, but at what cost of prospects would he take to get? It just doesn't make any sense to pretend to be buyers. Edmonds has some value, and should be traded along with guys like Counsell and Hoffman. Give those guys a shot at making the playoffs again before their careers wrap up.
  18. I guess my feeling is that Bush isn't really bad enough to complain about that much. He'll probably be gone next season. This team desperately needs a #1/2 type pitcher to match up with Gallardo so we don't have the rest of the rotation filled with some mix of Bush/Wolf/Narveson/Parra/Davis/Capuano types.
  19. I used to like Chrome, but it doesn't load enough websites that I frequent properly. Firefox FTW. I won't touch IE with a ten foot pole if I can avoid it.
  20. I agree. .260 would be acceptable for him if he drew walks or anything. He doesn't, and I don't see why he can't be sent down to the minors in favor of giving Cain a look in the outfield. I don't know why the Brewers can't hold him accountable, like they did with Hardy and Hall last season. It's not like he's playing every day for his defense when Macha keeps trotting Edmonds out there regardless.
  21. Haren apparently has a partial NTC, and would prefer to be dealt to a West Coast team. Not sure if dealing for him is realistic at all.
  22. We're currently 10.5 back in the division, 10 back in the wild card (with 8 teams in front of us). Melvin better be working the phones.
  23. Yeah, it's not like Melvin would get back a top pitching prospect for Bush anyway.
