  1. In the club level of Miller Park, there is a really cool photo (blown up onto a wall) of the land where County Stadium was built, being cleared. Several men in dress suits and hats are standing the foreground, viewing the progress. Does anyone know what I'm talking about, or if there is anywhere to get a photo of this? Thanks for any help.
  2. Yeah...I think fans forget that a manager, "getting even", can really hamstring himself later on. I don't really see anyone on the current roster that is expendable, as far as serving a suspension. Maybe Villanueva, but with how shaky the rotation is right now, I wouldn't want to risk it just to "send a message." Really, someone charging the mound might be the better way to respond the next time someone gets hit. If it's Prince or Rickie, I don't see how the league justifies suspending either one at this point. Of course, they would be suspended.
  3. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/James-Gammon-played-Lou-Brown-in-Major-League-?urn=mlb,256597 The funniest, crankiest and perhaps most-beloved manager in the history of the Cleveland Indians has died. James Gammon, who played skipper Lou Brown in the film "Major League" and its first sequel, died in Costa Mesa, Calif. on Friday, the Orlando Sentinel reports. Also a resident of Ocala, Fla., Gammon was 70.
  4. Yeah, I agree paul. I think the team can still be set up nicely for 2011 with one or two judicious trades. No one is really calling for selling off the entire team. We need to upgrade pitching through trades. There just isn't going to be much starting pitching on the FA market this winter that will be attainable without overpaying. That's why I (and others) feel the rotation needs to be upgraded by trading pieces that are getting expensive and near FA. Cliff Lee is most likely a Yankee, and then there is a big drop off in quality talent that will be available. There will be quite a few good position players available, though. Melvin has a better track record signing FA position players anyway.
  5. Didn't look like it. The one Parra threw at Heyward barely grazed his leg.
  6. If they have the money to offer Fielder $100 million, they have the money to sign Hart. He'd probably take half that over 4 years. What they can't do is act afraid because they got burned on Bill Hall. You can't operate that way and win. 4 years/$50 million for Hart? That seems high for me. I would see if he'd take something like 4 years/$32 million. I'd probably go up to $40 million total, but even then, I'd be very nervous about doing it. Hart probably has less chance to regress than Hall, but we have to remember how bad Hart was last season. Maybe he really has turned a corner. He certainly doesn't seem like he's just "lucky" this year. I also think the comparisons to Jayson Werth may be valid, based on the body type and age similarity.
  7. The Padres should definitely make a move and take advantage of the tremendous season they're having. Everyone wrote them off before the season, and yet they have the best record in the NL. It just seems like they're probably yet another team that won't part with any of their decent pitching prospects. Possibly to their later regret.
  8. Jeff Passan with some info to chew on regarding Prince: So Fielder’s potential suitors fall into two categories: those who want to curry favor between now and free agency, and those who need a mercenary. The latter encompasses one team particularly: Tampa Bay, which, one source close to the team indicated, “won’t go near the guy.” Fielder’s arbitration next year will take him to around $16 million, far too much for the Rays. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=624753#p624753 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?t=22280
  9. I wouldn't be excited by Blackburn, but I wouldn't be upset about trading for him either. I guess if Davis also gone next year, I'd be a little more optimistic about such a move. I would love to get Garza; but I think Fielder would warrant more coming back in return than just one SP with only three years of control left.
  10. I do agree that Braun seems to have regressed somewhat this year. I wonder if he's possibly hiding an injury, which would also account for his down year offensively.
  11. I still think Braun can develop into a decent defensive outfielder. I just think he has too much athleticism that would be rather wasted at first. I know many here are down on his defense, but I really don't think he's as bad as some make him out to be. If someone is going to move to first, I'd rather it be McGehee, or Hart if he's still around. Possibly Gamel if he doesn't pan out at third (though I get the sense he could work out there yet).
  12. I also saw in that same article that Hart "does not want to be on the trading block." If so, why doesn't he have his agent talk to Melvin about an extension?
  13. Yeah, you would have to think Macha is getting tired of Gomez's offensive deficiencies. Cain definitely deserves a few starts while he's up.
  14. Well, I actually agree with that Funke; but at this point I'd send Gomez down to the minors to develop some more discipline and see what Cain can do as a starter.
  15. You can twist the numbers however you want. I wouldn't say Edmonds has played "good defense" for CF.
  16. Oh yes, clearly based on stats and observation, Edmonds is more valuable and better than Braun this season. Come on.
  17. Haudricourt had a nice rant on his Twitter updates earlier about how Cox met with Macha this morning, saying that the Prince beaning wasn't intentional. Pretty funny stuff.
  18. Edmonds just let another one fall that Gomez likely would have had.
  19. I have Insider, and he doesn't elaborate too much. Just basically speculating (which he admits) on how much better the Rays would look with Fielder in their lineup, and that the Brewers would want Davis as the centerpiece of a package. Nothing too exciting.
  20. This is why Gomez should be basically playing every day for the rest of the season, instead of just 2-3 days a week. I'd really like to see if we have anything in Gomez or not. If he ends up not getting better at the plate, I'd have no problem seeing him dealt as a throw in in a trade, or just DFAed in favor of Cain or someone next year. I also agree with your premise that upgrading first base defensively could help our infield a great deal. Prince has really been disappointing to me with his glove work this season, when I thought he had turned a corner last year.
  21. Well, I think the greater points remain that Gamel is the only prospect Macha has supposedly ruined that anyone can point to. Also that Gamel has done nothing to redeem himself since that first stint with the Brewers; and it's pretty difficult to say that his mishandling in Milwaukee is what has lead to his currently stalled career. In the past year he has stunk in AAA, stunk in Winter Ball, been injured after possibly not warming up properly, and he's currently not doing anything noteworthy in the minors once again. At some point the finger has to get pointed back at the player, and not a manager he was playing under for less than half a season.
  22. Another aspect to think about regarding attendance: How many season ticket holders will renew if the team is seen as standing pat and doing nothing going into next season?
  23. Yeah, I think some fans have to get out of the habit of expecting the team to necessarily be more competitive every single season. That's just not realistic with a small market team like the Brewers.
