  1. Seems vague. What does "getting really serious" mean? Are they actually talking with Doug Melvin, or just thinking about it? Edit: I love this analysis I found on it: Back in my day "getting serious" meant that you had made her a mix tape but you hadn't moved past making out. I'm not sure what the kids mean by that today.
  2. I don't get this complaint. I think it's a good mix of stars and newcomers.
  3. I really don't think Melvin is on the hot seat at all. I could possibly see if the team does really terribly, like winning less than 20 games the rest of the season. Even then, I think he'll still get one more season. I just don't get the sense that Attanasio is displeased with him at all. As far as the comments about, "A GM usually only gets to hire two managers", there have been strong indications that Melvin wasn't fully behind Yost's dismissal. So technically you could say he has only been fully behind one manager hiring.
  4. I'm not even sure how Bush came up in this discussion, but with how he has been pitching lately, it might be a good "sell high" opportunity.
  5. Personally, I haven't had any major problems with Twins fans at Miller Park. A few rowdy jerks here and there, but Cubs fans are still by far the worst.
  6. Well, what's a realistic contract for Hart then? 5 years, $40 million or so? I just don't know if it makes sense for this team to allocate that much to a right fielder at this point.
  7. hawing, I've seen that happen once before (the mini runner going in the opposite direction). Good win and nice to sweep a division "rival." Here's to Corey Hart making a great showing in the Derby tonight and upping his trade value even more.
  8. Gomez seems to get good jumps on balls, has tremendous speed, and a very good arm. What exactly are the deficiencies in his defensive game?
  9. They actually had a guy like that throw out a first pitch last Tuesday at Miller Park. Maybe the Brewers will sign him.
  10. Saw a Baseball Tonight segment earlier today. The Cards and Reds have two of the easiest schedules the rest of the way. The Crew does not. I hope people don't really think we can get back in this at this point.
  11. Also, is it just me, or is the Interleague scheduling really haphazard and unpredictable? When's the last time we played the A's, for instance?
  12. I had never seen those powder blue unis of theirs. Pretty cool.
  13. I think it's a lot of posturing on Attanasio's part at this point. Translation: "We'll do trades, but we don't want your junk."
  14. Yeah, I agree. I'd much rather make a three day weekend of it, at the start of the weekend.
  15. Does a win today save Macha's job? Is he even in peril at this point? The post-game happenings could be more interesting than the game itself today. I will be attending a local Home Talent League game, but will have the Brewers on my portable radio. Crew, at least make it entertaining, please.
  16. Yeah. I remember going to game three of that series. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gifMe too. Worse yet, we went with a couple friends of ours who are Yankees fans (in fairness, the guy is originally from New York). I remember that third game being a complete slaughter of the Brewers. At one point, El Caballo was up, and I said aloud, "This would be a great time for a meaningless solo home run." Sure enough, Lee hit one out in that AB. Got to see A-Rod's 400th career homer, at least.
  17. Well, I hope that's not true. I can see not shopping him as aggressively; but I would hope Melvin would be willing to deal Weeks if some team is willing to give a decent value.
  18. BTW, since we've discussed the Rays quite a bit, I thought this blurb from MLB Trade Rumors was noteworthy: Cafardo wouldn't be shocked if the Rays were willing to discuss trading Matt Garza, with Jeremy Hellickson waiting in the wings (2.21 ERA in 105.2 Triple-A innings). In exchange for an impact bat, the Rays appear more inclined to deal major league players than prospects. A National League scout tells Cafardo that the team has been "very willing to include B.J. Upton in trade talks" and may even think about moving Wade Davis, if the price was right.
  19. Actually, Gomez has played poorly defensively too. Not really sure how you can say this. He looks pretty good to my eyes.
  20. But if we can't sign Prince, can't we go hard after Cliff Lee? We could easily offer him 6 years and $120 million with all the money we are going to be saving with Prince leaving after 2011. I'd much rather sign some high quality pitching, keep Prince, and make one last run at the playoffs. Plus, if Lee stays healthy, the Brewers could compete for the next 5 years with Lee and Yovani. Well, you said it yourself. "If Lee stays healthy." Don't get me wrong, he's a great pitcher right now. But he's already 31 and has had some injury issues (including this season). Do we really want to be paying him $20 million or so when he's 36-37 years old?
  21. Yeah, Seattle got a great return for a half season of Cliff Lee.
  22. Perhaps they could trade for Mike Carp from the Mariners organization.
  23. I do think the Lee trade, being somewhat early before the All-Star break, puts additional pressure on teams like the Rays, White Sox, Mets, and others.
  24. Yeah, that quote sounds like a mobster talking. Typical New Yawk sports mentality that seems particularly endemic of Steinbrenner's cronies.
  25. I don't think the Brewers have any plans or inclinations to convert Weeks to an outfielder, as has been suggested on this board time and again for years. I remember hearing Drew Olson comment that the brass had discussed it internally but decided against it. I believe that as long as he's a Brewer, he'll be a second baseman.
